I have a bliz sorc currently at level 76, I don't understand how people can get such high MF without sacrificing gear, so I'm looking for some advice.
Right now my sorc is wearing
Ptopaz'd shako
34% Spirit
34% MF Wartrav's
Goldwrap
40% chancguards
Occulus (clean)
35% resists uppd vipermagi
2 30% nagles
Tal's ammy
2 5% small MF charms
Where could I get the extra MF and still have decent resists in Hell mode?
Also I have a HF merc with shaftstop, vampgaze, and spire of honour (can't afford better ATM). He seems to be having a hard time clearing out CI's so any advice there would be appreciated as well.
Thanks

Get a Tal Rashas armor and belt. This will give you better mf and good resists. Also, get your hands on a bonehew for your merc. You wont regret it even though the req's are high. Two sockets so make one a -15 req jewel and the other an amn rune. If you still are lacking in resists ditch the spirit and get an upped mosers or a 3 socket Pdiamond shield. If your resists aren't that bad a Ryme shield is always good.

Alright, where to get more mf...
The PTopazzed Shako is allright, there isn't anything really better, except you socket an Ist rune into it, which would give you 1% more over the PTopaz (but i would have to hit you with a club if you really socket an IST into a helm ;))
Ditch the spirit, and get something with major resists. Sanctuary is nice, Moser's Blessed Circle with 2 PDiamonds is great as well.#
Wartravs are good, of course theres a differnce between 34% and 50% but maybe you'll find better ones... Don't underestimate rare boots, those can spawn with MF and sick other mods like single resists of 30+%
Goldwrap isn't the best coice imho. Tal Rashas belt is way better. you might lose 15% mf (more on that later, there's a neat hidden bonus) but you'll recieve a big Dex boost and some more mana
Chancies are ok
Occy is ok, too, IF you'll ever get one, socket it with an Ist rune (if you REALLY hunger for more mf...)
If you can afford one, try to get Tal's Armor. 88& mf (112 with PTopaz) and 40% Resist all except Poison and 15 MDR is awesome.
30% Nagels are ok, you can get magic ones with up to 40%, but those are very very rare
Tal's Ammy is great, because along with Tals Armor and belt, you'll recieve another 60% Mf as a partial Set bonus, once you're waering 3 pieces of tal rashas wrappings (that should more than weight up the mf loss when switching goldwrap)
Other Sources of MF: Charms. Get more small MF charms. if you can't afford, buying some, cube them yourself: 3 Perfect Gems of any type and a small charm* = a new small charm with fresh mods. this can be repeated until you roll a nice one and PGems are pretty common. Try to get a hold of a Gheed's Fortune unique Grand Charm.
Merc: What's his lvl? did you level him with you?
Get him a better weapon above all else. A non eth Reaper's Toll costs a few PGems and will make your merc much much stronger. In the meantime, assist your merc, by using Static Field on the CIs and Telekinesis can stun single enemies ;)
*)(i don't know the ilvl requirements for mf-suffix, but to play safe, only use small charms from nightmare or hell, anyone can help me out with some details on the required ilvl here?)

Socket that occy with a Ist. (30% MF)
If you dont have one, then socket it with a rare 10% MF jewel with some useful mods.
when u do find a 1st then simply use the hel rune formulae to unsocketet it.
I would collect more MF small charms.
My MF Sorc uses a full Tal Set , u get heaps of MF bonuses with that.
My best MF character is a Hammerdin now though , this is his setup :
Shako with PTopaz 74% MF
Magic Amulet with +2 Pala skills and 33% MF
Skullders with PTopaz 139% MF
Wizz Spike with Ist 30% MF
War Travellers 48% MF
Nagel Rings, 29% and 30%
Upgraded Chanceguards 40%
Upgraded Goldwrap 30% MF
Gheeds Charm 38%
5*7% small charms
5*6% small charms
8*5% small charms
Total of : 628% MF.
With My Merc I can get up2 702% MF on the final kill
I also have some magic MF rings that are around the 35-40% mark but with no second mods I dont tend to use them.
143% of my MF comes from charms. - this is a huge boost.

hm... those rings cannot get any second mod, since both pre- and suffix are used to create so much mf, but why using 2 Nagels rings above them? i mean the only mod on the nagels that might be useful for your hammerdin would be MDR by 3... I would use those 30+% MF rings above Nagelrings any day of the week :)

LOL - u r right :) I somehow thought they had something useful on them!
monsters take damage of 3... wow.. thats huge :)
and MDR by 3... mad.
haha, funny about the magic rings I always thought they were so cool, but always wanted them to have something else, like life or something perhaps.
I dont know much about prefix / suffix's
Thanx for pointing that all out *slaps self with fish*

Thanks for the replies! I was planning on getting a IST for the occy, but I just read thru the stickied Tals set VS partial tal's set. Since I can't afford IST or Tal's armor tho (just splurged on Arachnids) I'll stay where I am... untill I can afford the armor that is.
The advice for my merc is very helpfull.
Last question, I was not even thinking... I played a Meteorb sorc in 1.09 wanted to try somthing different, so I went full bliz. Besides Andy and Meph, where else can I do MF runs in hell with a decent bliz sorc?
I usually run: Council, Meph (and 3 council members in durance 3), Shenk/eldrich/pindle, andy and countess... yeah old school I know.
Anyways I am just getting ready to start MFing in hell so any advice as to where else to MF would be great

let's see...
Act 1:
Pit: Too many cold immunes to kill efficiently
Countess: She and her mob always spawn CI, it's tedious, but quite manageable with a decent merc
Andy: Piece of Cake :)
Act 2:
Ancient Tunnels (located below The Lost City): No CIs at all (except for Bosses from time to time) and a lvl 85 area just like the Pit
Act 3:
Travincal: Possible, but quite dangerous. IIRC there are no CIs upon the Council, but they tend to kill mercs very very fast.
Mephisto: Piece of Cake :)
Act 4:
Diablo: Oblivion Mages are CI and have the pesky habbit to run away and/or cast Iron Maiden on mercs trying to kill them. It's manageable, but very very tedious.
Act 5:
Shenk: Always CI and not worth the effort since all his buddies are CI as well and you might face some evil monsters there as well like Burning Dead Archers or Cat Slingers (no, they don't sling cats, they're cats slinging spears ;))
Eldritch: Always CI as well, not worth it imho
Pindle: Piece of Cake, but sometimes pindle himself spawns CI (but not his mob)
Baal: Very hard since you might face gloams, Oblivion Mages and so on, but managable
I would run Pindle, Meph, Ancient Tunnels and Andy. Also, i would try out Travincal a few times as well as Countess and maybe visit the Moo Moo Farm from time to time for a change

I actually pictured cat slingers throwing little cats after you clarified... it actually made me laugh out loud. hehe, thanks for the info, but aren't the minions of destruction CI?
Besides I don't quite think I'm quite ready to handle Hell Baal's WSK yet, I did beat Hell Baal and Hell Diablo solo tho... but I had someone get me there first.
Thanks again!

Lister can sometimes spawn CI but not is buddies. the only monsters always spawning CI are the Skelliemages from wave number two
