What to do with bosses, like say duriel or baal, where there are no little guys around? When my original army of skellies gets killed off...theres nothing to summon more out of ...how do summoners beat these bosses?

Decrepify the boss, and use a merc with lots of 'xx% chance of crushing blow'-equipment. And if you run out of minions, you can always go back to act 1 or so to summon new ones. Minions travel with you from act to act!

Hhhmmm... In my experience, bosses always attack your golem first for some reason. So, make sure you have a fresh army of skellies before you engage the boss and when you're actually fighting the boss, re-summon your golem next to him every time it dies or is almost dead.

When you cast Decrepify on the boss, he won't do a lot of damage so I don't think he'll be able to kill all your skeletons, especially if you have an act 2 'Might'-mercenary with good equipment...

Also, don't worry about it too much --- when you reach Hell difficulty your skellies will do MUCH better, especially with some +skills. They usually work very well in Nightmare already.

I don't have a lot of experience in normal, except for rushing... did you decrepify Baal? You DO work on your Skeleton Mastery skill as well?

But, as I said --- skellies will get more hitpoints in nightmare and even more in hell. Just make sure your own level isn't too low compared to the monsters you are dealing with (skellies inherit your clvl when it comes to calculating the chance to hit/chance to get hit), get your might merc in nightmare, and collect some +skills items.

A bit more info would help us set-up a strategy for you.

What is your level?
What is you skill distribution with and without +skills?
What kind of Merc do you have?
What curses do you use?
Where do you place the Golem?

Decrep is really useful for this fight. It is a skill very high on the must-get list for a Skelliemancer. I might be too much trouble, but getting that skill would make things easier.

With level 20 Skellies and level 12 mastery you should have reasonably sturdy Warriors. I trust you have invested a point in Summon Resist? If not, then do try to level a bit in order to get that skill. It is very useful.

Don't be afraid to TP out of the Throne and go to Act I to get a few more troops.

What kind of Merc do you have? A good Merc can make things easier.

Do you have a point in summon resist? That makes a big difference to elemental damage from Baal and Diablo, giving 28% at level 1 and with just 3 plus skills 44% which essentally doubles your skellies life.

If you don't have Decrepify yet, go shopping for a +1 magical wand with Decrepify on it and use that during the fight to keep Baal super slow

Try to have your clay golem and Decrepify on hotkeys and as you run up to Ball recast your clay golem on the far side, then Decrepify and then switch back to re-cast the golem. That will keep your skellies alive a lot longer.

As the others have said the key to killing Baal fast is crushing blow for your merc. But you need to be able keep him alive long enough to do the deed and the skellies provide a great screen / distraction.

Good Luck you are almost there :)

What i found from learning (the hard way) from a good number of patches back is not to waste or diverse in skills points too much early on.

As most has already pointed out and i am sure you realise yourself is that for a summoner necro it is important to max out or get to as high possible for RS and SM before you reach Baal. For Big D himself imo it is important to have at least 1 point in the normal CG, GM and SR. It is vital to have the clay and decrep combo ready even before reaching big D.

Try not to be tempted in putting (what seemed) to be the odd point into other (less important skills ie mages etc) as it can hinder your performances when you get to the harder bosses.

Your best option now is probably to load up in a many +summon or better still +skills in your equip as you possible can. If you feel your stilll not strong enough try levelling your char a bit more by doing runs before u tackle Baal again. CB is not quite that essential for normal level as with RS and SM maxed they should still dish out quite reasonable level of damage. Do not use Amp until he near dead imo. Decrep all the way if necessary.
