View Full Version : so what's your opinion on Countess running?
I'm thinking about making a sorc specifically for hell countess running, or using one I've already started. Countess always spawns CI/FI right? So a lightning sorc is obviously the best answer.
1) esheild or no? can i do max block and optimize fhr, fcr and get through the tower ok?
2) the best build would be...
a) Charged bolt with firewall backup and max block (i've already started one of these)
b) Lightsabre or Kingslayer enchantress with maxed Tstorm..
c) nova/tstorm sorc
d) CLOrb
e) a barb with naj staff
keep in mind that the runewords i have access to are Rhyme, Spirit, and Insight--hence the need to run countess.
Please post what works best for you.

I've found that FCR is more important. Fills dual functions, gets you there quicker and avoids being damaged. I run the countess with my blizzball sorc. Countess is the only one I can't kill. I trim away the foliage and let my merc make the kill. If I were building one just to run the countess, I would probably go with Orb/CB.

but for my bot char i run it with a lightning fury java zon and he kills him even faster.

use ribcracker and upped it...its really nice damage around 500,

Take it slow and steady. It takes forever for me since I have a Blizzard sorc and they are all immune to cold so I have to wait for my merc to kill. Well I did it just for fun and I didnt find any good runes so I gave up.

if you take time to show cain the stuff you picked up then that should stretch it out enough so you don't have any problems. I do nm countess in about 3 minutes time in game and i've never had any issues.
No need of a lighning sorc to efficiently run the countess... I use a meteorb sorc and tele right to the sexy countess. 2 meteors kills all his minions, merc finish the countess in about 3 hits...
But seriously, running the countess isnt very lucrative... Now every runes under pul have no value or barely. And youd need to run the countess about 100 times to find a pul, whch takes a while.
The best way to get runes is to trade, re-trade and re-trade while making a profit after each trade. This is definatly the best way to have runes quick. Once you are rich, its easier to get richer. Its like in the real world. The key is to find the right buyer and be patient. Keep your nice items that dont have much uses except for some specifics builds. Youll get a great offer once you find the guy that uses the build. Know the economy and read the forums and game names in search for a trade to make a profit of. Sometimes you realize you made some profit only after 3 trades : 2 ists for a nice charm, the charm for a good fathom, the fathom for 5 ists, etc.
Another good way to get rich is to actually magic find without magic find. With the very powerful new runewords, the right socketables are worth a lot and arent that hard to find. Instead of getting a shako (worth = +- pul rune) by running meph for an hour, join high players games and go to areas like the pits. A lot of socketables will drop in high players games if u have no mf. In an hour of pit running in high players games u will eventually find a nice archon plate, zerker or a nice charm or jewel. Items that can be traded for a lot more than a shako... I rather wear 0 mf and finds 4 os 3 skills matron bow than having 800mf and find that damn mav bow...
Uniques has always had high value in the early ladder seasons, in the latter the peoples wants to make the runewords and that makes socketables a lot more valuable.
hey i know that's the 'best' way to do it but i honestly can't be bothered...i just want runes for my personal use..I can run nm countess and get all the amn, sol, shael, io i need so i just want to take it up a level

I use a chainlite/fo sorc, and I have the map ends/beginning pattern memorized (MH iz for nubletz omg!), so I can do it pretty quickly (105 fcr). I don't play ladder much, but in a few hours I got an um, a pul, some kos, and enough hels and ele runes/amns to reroll my spirits a few times.
It's a bit more lucrative than mfing for me much of the time, since I keep every rune and can up them to more useful runes (go go spirit reroll).
One other option is to have a 2nd computer and rush yourself to Hell hellforge. In an hour you get a NM forge, Hell forge and several quest boss drops. Definitely more lucritive than Countess runs.
I do 3 types of running:
1. MF with my Bliz sorc (700+ MF) on Pindle/Meph/Andy/Baal runs.
2. Hell Cows with my Skellimancer (Amp ROCKS Cows).
3. Self-rush for hellforge.
I tried Countess runs but was never very profitable. All of the above 3 are profitable in their own way. Finding a Gal, an Ist and 2 Mals in one night of rushing is nice. Finding a 15% Sup 3os Dusk, a 15/15 Sup Monarch and an Eth Cryptic in an hour of Cows was very nice. Having Baal drop nothing but Gorefoot in 10 runs was pretty pathetic.
To address your original question, I used my Bliz sorc on countess runs because she rocks everything except the last room. Just jump in the pack, Static everyone and wait 5 seconds for your merc to kill everything (Eth Gaze, Up'ed Shaft, Eth Reaper's).

Wow thats exactly what my merc is wearing. Ive put a 15ias 14 all resist *** in the eth gaze. I know it looks newbish but it almost cap the resist of my merc and he reach another bp. 2 more ias jewels in armor and weapon will reach 2 more breakpoints. Im gonna move the reaper and gaze on my barb's merc since decrep will boost my barb's damage as well. I found a perf eth bonehew to replace the reaper on my sorc's merc.
