View Full Version : Blizzard thinks i'm a bot?! (angry rant)

I'm currently logged off because blizzard thinks i was a bot because i was changing games too quickly. This is the stupidest thing i've ever heard. Why shouldn't i be able to switch games as quickly as I please? And does blizzard realize, that the bot programs only need to add ONE line of code to combat their 'high level of bot security'. There are SOOOO many better ways to elimanate bots.. for example like hotmail and other email sites do, have a hard to read word that you have to type in. ARGH, blizzard is soooo dumb if they think this cuts down on bots. How f*cking long do they have my logged out for this is like 20 minutes by now!

I would like to get an occy or two in my first hell meph run, but hey, we can't all get what we want.

Blizzard implemented the realm down not only for bots, but to combat server strain as a whole (to which people like you are adding). To quote MicahW (a Blizzard representative):

Realm Down will occur from rapidly joining/creating and leaving games. This is usually associated with doing 'runs' of one type or another to kill a specific unique. The game was not designed with these runs in mind and so to combat specific strain put on the servers (ie long wait times) the realm down restriction was born.

If you find yourself experiencing realm down it is recommended you stay in each game you join/create longer to avoid 'realm down'.

Your going to experience alot of stuff in life that you don't like, but you gotta deal with it and take it in your stride.

God damn, could they at least TELL me how much time i have left? instead of me just guessing? I was xfering with my friend now i can't get a hold of him. Whack as hell. hackers are SOOO f*cking smart. this won't hinder their bot programs at all, they just put in a wait time. And for all the mephisto runners, fine they just add andariel + ancient tunells to their runs and now blizz is back to square one. (except they still boot out infinetly many people a day who are x-fering)

Absolutely agree with poster. I got two RD's today. The first one lasted 2 hours (!!!) and the second one has been 4 hours and going still - and I was in the middle of an important deal too. Even though I was doing similar games over and over (tomb runs at the time) I was spending like 15 minutes per game! Wat kind of moron thinks that is too fast!??!!?

Even if they want to reduce server strain, they should expect something like 10 minutes per game or IMHO, closer to 5 minutes.

I also don't think doing runs is 'strainful' to the server because everyone does it ALL THE TIME - in fact many people I know don't get RD's and they do MF runs 24/7 (wayyyyyy more than me).

Temporary IP ban is a stupid stupid system because many people can just reconnect to their ISP and get a new IP to go around it, whereas some (like me) have static IP's and get unfairly banned.

Like the poster also pointed out, bots today have options (I checked) for time per game, time in between creating games, etc. - so why exactly am I being banned?

wotberla,

I agree that it probably would have been more helpful to tell you how long a realm down would last (or even, why it occured, for those who don't know), but I believe that would involve releasing a client-side patch.

As for Blizzard being back at square one, they're not. There's no queue times for making games now.

vectorian,

If bots have a feature to set how long they stay in a game, and if that can avoid them getting a realm down, then I guess now is the time to look at what your doing wrong.

Server strain? You must not have been around back at the start of the ladder season. Sometimes, when you wanted to make a game, you would have to wait in queue for ungodly times. Now-a-days, you don't even see the queue, and I for one appreciate it.

Realm down isn't occured only by switching between characters too fast, or by quitting and making games too fast. It's also caused by illegal activities, and exploits of various bugs (http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=adt0689p)

If you feel that the reasons mentioned in the above link aren't the cause of your realm downs, you can probably try and contact Blizzard and they might be able to help you. Personally, though, I haven't experienced a realm down in ages, and I do plenty of MF runs, and trade games. I just take things slowly.

as an idea its ok, but its thought only half way. Unfortunately you really cant find a game that suits your needs instatly, like if you need andy dead you join a game called "andy here". if andy is dead, you quit and find a similar game. if this happens 4 times in a row, you might get a rd. blows.

really cant help it but having a cup of coffee or something in between if you gotta disconnect/connect 3 times straight, and when muling just WAIT like 2 secs between every click you do "outside" of the main game, ie. in lobbys, character selection etc.

I have been able to join 20 3minute baal games straight without getting realm down and without switching characters even though I have gotten failed to join game. Rd can last for 5 minutes to 48 hours. The longest I got was 1 hour. It's a pain in the *** but if you join/make games too much I'm guessing it lags the servers on bnet. Quite annoying but not the end of the world.

I have found out that all you gotta do is take it slow, when muling keep the chars in the game for at least a minute, don't click on all the buttons too fast. Realm Downs have lasted less than 3 min sometimes when I'm concerned, don't know if it affects anything but I have a feeling that if you don't try to log on immediately after you get RD you won't have to wait that much, usually a few minutes will do.

how old is Diablo II? how much does it cost in monthly fees? how much fun do you have with it when it works properly?

Blizz has tried to stop some of the bots, but without making it pay for play we are going to have bot issues.

Ebyworx, D2, is actually free of additional fees for play time, as is Guild Wars, Star Craft/BW, and I think WoW/WC2/WC3, also.

And also, I think that D2 has too many bots. Specifically, those d@mn spam bots. I :grrr:HATE:grrr: them...with...every...fiber...of...my...being...

...Anyway, I think that the most evil...RD causing things on Bnet...are Spam Bots.

Um...why would one post into a 5 month dead thread when they have no new information, actually give out false information, answer rhetorical questions, and bypass the spam filter. I just love the inherent irony in this post.

If MicahW can give out false information, why can't we? ;)

Well, back to the original points here, here's something I must argue:

Rd can last for 5 minutes to 48 hours.
Depending on what you do, this isn't really true. I was switching characters really fast, and got 3 RDs with all 3 totaling about 3-4 minutes. And because I went to open, I let my friend who was helping me transfer get the shield and run. And then I came back, and a big chain of events happened before I got the shield back... ;)

I have a funny story of the evil realm down.

Me and my friend are hell rushing trieing to get ist's and gul's cuz i need to get 2 bers to make a infinity. Anyways after rushing 2 guys that left at forge we make a new game. It says about "4672 Sojs sold to merchants" i go, "haha its a hot ip, but dclone wont show up". Then 2 guys join along with us, ones a lvl 62 maybe and the other is 4 (they wanna get rushed) suddenly it says "Diablo walks the earth" everyone in the game says "omg" at the same time. I tele to the den and spawn him, my friend leaves and gets a new char. Im hammering the **** outta him with my cheep hammerdin :), using a pot everyone once in awhile while the other people that we were gunna rush go get their high lvls and look for him, not knowing i already spawned him. Anyones i run outta rejuvs, i start dieing but eventually me and my friend get him down and i get the anni cuz my friend has 2 and i have 0.
After that game i go clone hunting. Im making games like crazy trying to find him again, but not getting the ip. THen i think "i should stop so i dont get rd." So i stop and then start again and after about 10 more games i get realm down. I got realm down about 11:40 PM and now its 10:22 am the next day and im still down. :'(

I get realm downs sometimes even though I'm in the game already.
"Connection interrupted" and then automatic log off and RD for 5-10 mins :D , even if I had been playing there a few minutes already.
I find that pretty strange and unnecessary but hey, can't do anything about it.

I believe this was on topic as we're discussing about realm downs.

I had a r/d for over a week once, before you complain about 4 hour r/ds, think about how bad it would be without r/d.

I find that if you type something in the chat before every new game you make, you won't get any R/D. I once did about 150 Pindle/DClone hunting games in a row, all I did was check the IP and do Pindle (totalling 45 sec-1 minute). After every game I'd type something in the chatroom and never got a realm down. I'm not sure if it was just luck or if it actually did something but it worked
