With close to no preparation from 1st try I got exactly 1090 which is quite good for international student athlete.GPA in my country for high school is calculated differently but should be about 3.9 converted to American standarts.

I was in the neighborhood of 1300 with a 2.67 gpa. But I also had a varsity letter in Debate, was a member of the highschool Knowledge Bowl, extremely active in theater and school newspaper. That and I went to an international school, so they thought I was foreign or something.

i had a 1275 with a 3.9 average. Was captain of the swim varsity team for two year and was on the varsity soccer team for two years. Add to my general awsomness and i got into a very good college i would say.

Now, wheres the party tonight?

Dork. I didn't do debate, but I did get a varsity letter in quiz team and I was on the editorial board for our school's newspaper. Oh, and I went to an international school for some of high school too. :p But instead of theater, I was a band dork. And instead of debate I was captain of our school's Junior Engineer's Techincal Society B team. But I beat you in SAT and GPA. :)

While researching colleges for my son I found that a lot of the better schools (at least in California) are more interested in have a very diverse student body so while SAT and GPA are all great they aren't the only factors. In fact talking to Stanford they like to have people who aren't all booksmart. Though a high SAT and a Stellar GPA won't hurt.

Edit: Oh and I never took the SAT and my GPA was just probably a straight 2.0 I majored in the hanging out and looking cool with a minor in sex, drugs, and rock and roll. It was the 80's.

Yay band! i was a total band geek.

i took the sat in 7th grade. got a 700.

took it 5 more times in high school (and did some of the books) (my parents suck) for a total combined best score of 1190. stupid test. i did get a 32 on the act first try though... 3.89gpa

i know for a fact that i only got in where i went because i lived overseas - so there's defintely the argument to make yourself as diverse as possible

I got a 1400 on my one and only SAT. And I graduated high school 14th in my class out of 440 with a 4.3 GPA out of a 4.0. The deal is that all AP and honor's level classes gave you an extra point on your GPA. A C was a 3.0, B was a 4.0 and an A was a 5.0. A D was still only worth 1.0 though. Since everyone was bragging, though I'd toss that in.

Shall we mention university GPA as well? :D

Well, since you asked.

By graduation I had a 4 foot garbage can full to the top with bottle caps from my beer drinking that I had started collecting second semester of my freshman year. Keep in mind that that did not include any of the cans or kegs I drank. No easily quantifiable number, but it was a lot.

Aw, you lucky, we only get like .2 extra for our Ap and Honors. I'd actually be getting a better gpa if I was in regular math because I could get an A in that but only a B in smart math.

1180 (1st try, no prep)/3.0-3.2 gpa (somewhere in that neighborhood)

What kind of college are you looking to attend? Any state college will prolly accept you. As for the ivy leaugers...don't know if a any gpa under 3.9ish would get you in...aren't they strict? I mean I only applied to Indiana University and they let me in with my stats (not sure if thats an accomplishment, but there you go).

man you people and your scores make me feel like a total ***.

i plan on attending richard stockton collge in new jersey. i live in jersey and its close, and some of my friends go there, hopefully they let me in.. wish i didnt mess around all of highschool, and play diablo 2 and hang with my g-f on my spare time instead of doing sat prep :xx: but i guess i was too worried about it cause both my parents didnt go to college and they didnt ush me much. i got a varisty letter for 3 years for starting varsity lacrosse and ill prolly get one again this year, but that doesnt seem to mean much.. but yea im taking sats again this staurday, hopefully trying to get over a 1090.. but my gpa isnt gonna move considering its my senior year.. so its gonna stay a low 2.7 :( the reason why i maninly posted this thread was cause i dont think ill be able to go anywhere other then a community college for my first couple years but i guess thats better then nothin. my sister was ranked 27 out of 360 and had a gpa of 3.8 with an sat score of 980 , and since she couldnt break 1000 mount clair or whatever it is her dream school didnt let her in, so since she was such a better student then me and didnt get into her college it makes me think i wont get anwaywhere.....

maybe mac wasnt funny in that post, but i bet he was closer to being honest than alot of others in this thread

besides, mac has already been through barber college -- why would he lie about his sat score?

BTW -- the way that most young people on the internet today claim to have 1400+ on their SATs leads me to believe that in less than a decade youll need that score just to be eligible to take a GED exam so you can be qualified to work as a gas station cashier

whats next -- we gona get some jocks in here saying they benched 350 pounds in seventh grade after running a three minute mile?

I've posted my scores before and people always tell me I'm lying. I will just say I did very well, and got into the college I wanted.

Anyways, if you are applying to the top tier schools they care more about your sat 2's and essays. A great essay or great interview can really tip the odds in your favor.

a 20 minute essay then...just out of speculation..how many points do you think that'll constitute for?

assumin the score is still 1600 for perfect, i expect it'll be 200 pts., so it's be

Meh, nothing special. Got a 1390 SAT, 4.6 out of 5.0 GPA, 7th in class of 129, 31 on ACT in high school. In college, got a 28 on my MCAT (average is 21), a 3.74 out of 4.0 GPA, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. But, I don't like to boast...

First off, my friend goes to Stockton and that's a pretty good school from what he tells me.

Second, a community college isn't bad at all. I go to a community college in Union county NJ and many of the professors teach in other universities as well as the county college. My economics professor used to teach at NJIT, now that's a really good school. What I'm getting to is that I'm paying a lot less for county college and getting the same education basically as one of those universities. So community college isn't a bad idea at all for getting an associates degree. Then you can transfer where ever and the SAT scores won't apply, just you're time in community college will.

I don't know let's see...

I make over 50k a year and pay only $700 in taxes.

Drive a 7 series BMW and a Classic Sports Car.

I am buying a $700k home this year.

My sons college tuition is almost paid for.

And I retire in 2 years (at 38).

Overall I guess I'm doing pretty well for a High School Graduate.

Is there any way of approximating ACT scores to SAT? I only needed to take the ACT to apply for the local colleges.

We took a practice ACT test a year before and it predicted I'd get 21-24 on the real thing. I got a 28. 28 on English, Scientific reasoning, a catergory for some reason I can't remember, and a 27 on math. There were trig questions on the test and we started trig the day after the ACTs in math class.
