View Full Version : My MF Hammerdin, is it viable??
Well as of now the hammerdin is lvl 88..
Str is close to 160 base
Dex is just reaching max block
Vit is giving me close to 1200 life
Energy is base, Id rather use my mana pots when In need of the mana

Right now he has max B-aim, Hammer, Conc, Vigor, and working on maxing HS
The gear he will be using are the usual

Merc... Do i need one? i never used one before for a paladin but if it helps on survival ill get one... i was either thinking HF or Def and he will be using tal mask, duri, and bonehew
With the gear Ill have 80fcr and If i ever get a arach 100fcr
I was wondering if HoTO would be better.... survival wise, since Ill be Mfin baal
The res i have now is all max 75 psn cold fire, and 85 light which is very good for those souls..

Looks like you'll be fine, althoug you might consider getting a Defiance/Holy Freeze merc and arm him with that weapon that gives Meditation.
i was looking at all the stuff your using 4 mf and the total isnt very high.
i ahve a mf pally that has 524 mf that i use to do hell diablo runs. i am by no means rich but i ahve some ok stuff. the only thing i change from my char is to have an enigma instead of a ptopazed skuldurs
my only advice is to get more mf if your gonna mf.

and a rare pally ammy with good mf on it and +skills
a few small, large mf charms
my killing speed is fairly fast even with alot of mf. i like river of flame chaos santuary runz the best. scored 3 skill gc in 1 1player run (fire wfhr, shadow, and mastery) diablo can drop lots of good stuff too. shako, highlords, valk wing, a p combat gc, tals armour, trang armour dropped in 11 runs. these runz have been pretty lacking in any type of rune drop though low or high but socket armour seems to drop alot. 2 archon plates 3/4 soc mage plate 3 soc and various other armours. anyhoo enough bantering good luck with the mf. a little more will help alot.

As far as mercenary is concerned, I have tried a couple different types but for my MF hammerdin I always come back to act-2 holyfreeze. I find them to be the most useful.
The rest of your gear seems find. If you can't get yours hands on enigma, Skulder ire is nice and cheap. True you don't have the teleport skill but it's not so bad beside the fact that it takes more time to do your mf runs. My ladder mfer is not wealthy so he uses skulder but on switch I have the Naj's set staff with teleport charges. It's not as pratical as enigma but it does the job. Money for charges repair shouldn't be a problem for a level 88 hammerdin. As for my weapon I almost always use Wizard Pike. Even though it lacks the + skill the rest of the mods make it up for it. I find it frees up of lot of gear options.
Your casting rate is fine as well; 75 % is plenty enough and for an mfer it serves no purpose to get to the next break point which is at 125 %. At level 90 my Mf hammerdin has around 1500 hp, 75 % FCR, hammer damage is a bit over 6 K, MF is around 350 %. I am fully aware that those number are far from being stunning but they are good enough for an Mfer, at least on ladder. I must say that most of my mfing is done in a single or 2 persons game. Last ladder season, with a similar setup, I found most of the new uniques but the most elusive one.
I agree with the previous poster about Chaos Sanctuary runs. I find them to be very lucrative and CS remains one of the only challenging spots of the game for any type of character.

Okay ill give you the setup of my MF hammerdin
Gear:
Helm: Ptopaz Shako
Armor: Enigma
Ring1: Ravenfrost (CBF is a must)
Ring2: 30% Nagel
Belt: Verdungo's
Boots: Wartravs 39%
Amulet: 35% MF amu
Weapon1: Isted Wizzy
Shield1: Pdiamond HoZ
Weapon2: CTA
Shield2: Lidless
This way i get MF from: Helm, Armor, Ring2, Boots, Weapon1 and my Amulet.
Combined with my inventory full of 7% SC's i have nice MF percentage... I know this is an expensive build really expensive but it works fine for meph, dia, baal and the pits... there isnt a boss i cant handle and even baals minions tend to die real easy... I am even surviving a full hit of a few of those nasty Dark Gloams in World Stone Keep just enough to tele next to them and hammer them away...
i have found some interesting stuff so far so im quite happy with him.
For skill points i have put one point in redemption this helps when in Chaos Sanctuary and you get swamped by a pack of monsters... tele out cast hammers(they will follow you) when they die switch to secondary weapon set and leech your life and mana back!!!
Rest of the skills is just basic Hammerdin setup (as stated above)
With this setup i have 1189 life and enough dex for max block...

Being Frozen doesnt effect the hammer-casting?
It sure doesn't seem like it....

True but i hate being frozen and not able to walk away normally (sometimes you can better run then tele) so thats why i use the ravens, besides that ravens boost my dex also and thats nice for my max block ..
I get 386MF on switch....when I use my current gear (skullders) But now I have another Item that I need to search for, a HoZ, since I was screwed over with some type of hack that stops the game unless you close it and restart it again.... the search might stop since I might go on ladder instead of NL which is covered with trade cheats.... Right now ladder is my concent, all i have in there is a lvl 23 sorc (since yesterday..) thanks for all the info on a MF hammer, im sure im going to be visiting this character again... since the unblockable hammers just pwnes all in the game
