Im about to make a phoenix for my smiter, but several people i have been talking to claim that they have tested this and smite gets no added dmg from phoenix.
Here on this forum everyone seems positive it does, but has someone here actually tested this ?

Yes it does but remember that phoenix doesnt give any additional blocking. Maximum blocking on elite pala shields are 60% base on sacred targe. Vortex shield has 49% or 51% if am not mistaken which is damn low. So make sure u built ur character blocking based on that shield. IMO that shield should be used only VS other smitters for the additional dmg. Versus Attack Rating opponents you would be best by using an exile shield to get the benefit of very high defence.

Just like fortitude or any other outside weapon % ed, and i bet everyone knows that fort works.

I recently bought a 464%ed sacred phoenix (thnx ICE  ) and the damage added is really high :P

Although there is an issue that needs to be analized yet, with phoenix. It is the 40% chance to cast firestorm. When it triggers you get an small delay with whatever attack you are using, and this is annoying when you are killing mosters, only can guess in pvpv since havent dueled with my pala yet, leveling him atm. Anyone has experiences with this issue? Ive read many posts about phonix and the extra dex for blocking, the display bug, lack of resists,... but never anything about this.

Yeah, that's one of the disadvantages of Pheonix ( just like dragon )
U HAVE a delay.
Nothing is perfect.

ehm.....no, when i tested fortitude/phoenix vs shaft/up'd hoz in smite vs smite duel & i used the phoenix i took 2 hits while damn shield casted firestorm & it caused me to die...so imo its not that good in smite vs smite, 40% chance is kinda high

hmm i have a smiter on USWest that uses:
grief 40/37x zerker
pheonix vortex (+resist one)
enigma archon
bloodfists
ber'd shako
verdungo
eth treks
bk/raven/30 maras

this is the first smiter i have made on the realms and it works brilliantly
i have 3.1k life, max block, super damage, and a 6fpa attack

i have never noticed the cast delay on firestorm which triggers often.
this may be due to the fact that i have never dueled with a hoz/exile smiter and therefore i am not used to dueling with a hoz smiter with none of the supposed 'casting delays'.

i definitely win the majority of smite/smite duels and only lose consistently when the opponent is using lifetap, has range 3 and has 3k+ life.

for a pure smite build with a bit of charge (without lifetap), i would recommend my gear selection, but for v/t you definitely need +skills so hoz is a must in that situation imo.

whether or not pheonix is actually the best option for a smiter, pheonix can easily be used to create a successful smite build.
