Pougee's PvP Shield Bashing Zealot

Lately the pvp games have been dominated with grief smiters. And this has made Zealots damn easy to kill. I love my zealots and trying to make a way to eleminate most Smiters.

Skills:
Sacrafice - Max
Zeal - 1-5
Fanat - Max
Holy Shield - Max
Defiance - Max
Smite - Max Last
Blessed Aim - 1

Stats:
Strength - Enough for gear
Dex - Enough for 75% Blocking
Vit - Rest
Energy - Nothing

Gear:
ebotd Zerker + Pheonix Monarch
Switch Grief + Exile
Fortitude
CoA BerBer
SteelRends
Angelics
Hsarus Boots + Belt

Reason of choice:

People will see the jewelry and boots + belt and think thats a bad idea. In my experiance AR > Defence. If you have over 30k ar you will hit nearlly all the time in Zeal Duels. For WW Barbs, you go the smiter switch and the defiance from Exile and you maxed Defiance with holy shield should offer alot of defence with gear. Also remeber to walk while smiting don't run. Same with zealing. Keeps your chance to block better.

I've been playing around with Smite/Zeal and Smite/Charge a fair bit recently. The problem with Smite/Zeal is that they serve the same purpose, with Smite being the better of the two. At what circumstance would you use Zeal over Smite? I can't think of any matchup where you would prefer to use Zeal when you could Smite them instead. This is just an inferior Smiter IMO.

You would miss out on a lot of AR if you only put 1-5 points in Zeal.

If you want to make different builds for fun that's fine. You can make PvP throwing axe pallies if you wish. My point still stands that this is just an inferior smiter with zeal for nothing but novelty. Don't take that the wrong way, that's fine. I make Rangers all the time :xmad:. I'm just saying this so some less-informed people don't go off and waste their time making 'teh uber zeal/smite pkpkpker'.

Also, in regards to your point about giving your zealot a chance to beat Smiters, I highly doubt you will ever beat a decent Smiter. The fact is you're the same character with worse (as in less Smite-oriented) gear on. If you want your Zealot to truely stand a chance against Smiters, you're gonna have to take a different route and use a skill that can overcome Smite. Not one that just mirrors it but not as well.

(And yes, I know you chose Smite becuase it sits nicely skill-point wise with Zeal, but it just doesn't help. I think a Zealot/Templar would stand a better chance at achieving your goal.)

unfortunetely zealers are at the bottom of the pvp end, i only see them good for z v some melee (whirlwind and smite shoul lay waste of them.
going by a hybrid is going to hurt you in z v z duels.
