Hi, I'm new to diablo 2 and Hardcore, never finished normal but I used that reg edit thing on the forum to start hardcore anyway. I hate playing rpgs without perma death.

I'm playing on USWest, got a 27 paladin and a mid teens character of every other class. People have been really friendly so far except for one person who said I built my paladin wrong and should start over. The paladin has 14 in holy fire, 4 in zeal, 4 in resist fire and a few in other prereqs and such, don't really know what to do after I max holy fire but planning to do something for monsters that are immune to fire and physical damage. Everything's been easy so far, including travincal council guys, currently in act 3 trying to find all the pieces of khalim so I can go kill mephisto. The paladin's name is Flamefortune.

Hello and welcome to forums and to Diablo world :)

Dont pay so much attention what others say at that point of your career, enjoy and test the possiblities of the character skills and powers :)

After you gain some more experience and want to try out new and want to try out example the summon necro then this place is also good place for information and feel free to ask help to builds etc.

Its much easier to ask than test dozens of times how to build something what stats to put to be able to use items etc. Its often hard to get whole picture of char at first. Later you will get experience and not need to learn all the basics of chars again and again when your brains start to safe this very important data to your memory(not sure if any use in real life).

Hi and welcome to the HC forum.

Remeber that there are no right or wrong builds, just more or less effective ones. And the only way to realy learn this game is to try everything out.

Good luck with your chars,

Cheers,
Nex

i wont say your build is "wrong" but you ll seriously be hurting once you enter nm. I have a paladin built similar to yours he maxed holyfire and is lvling resists fire , but he runs around normal act 1 with Kalims awl and scrounges chipped gems so i can cube my runes. The guy who said you built your pally wasnt being unfriendly ( his tone may indicate otherwise, dont know) but long term you did build it wrong and should start over if you want something effective long term.

Im just glad someone actually joined west. Dont know if you have read it or not but the HC FAQ is pretty helpful and you might also want to check out the HC trading forum, you can do quite well with a bunch of perfect gems

A HF pally is usable but tough, so you would do good to save any +3 holy fire scepters as near the end of the game your build will rely a lot on damage attained from +skill bonusses.

There's no right or wrong build (well... there is, but let's not going into that here ;))

There is, however, a huge difference between having it easier along the ride, or feeling like you ran into a brick wall ;)

You could make him a holy shock or freeze dual element though, since Sanctuary synergizes both of these.

Oh well :)
most important is you'll have fun, and you'll die eventually so might as well enjoy the ride there ;)

Dont forget that any zealot, elemental or not are more or less dependent on Crushing blow. Goblins toe, Black rune word and if you are lucky to fine your self a couple of UM runes, Duress armor and Cresent moon sword are good end equipment for a zealot. Good luck with your Paladin.

One place you might want to go to visit is the Strategy Compendium. It has guides about different builds. Also, each specific class section under the Strategy forums usually have some form of quides for your review. Remember that if they do not state otherwise the guides are for SC.

Hi!

I would recommend maxing out zeal and sacrifice too (I am in the middle of my first pallie so i am no expert but he is fun!) get at least 1 in each aura and keep an eye out for good pallie shields and weapons - rares for pallies can be insanely cool- also if you come across a civerbs weapon mine used one till like lvl 30 and did very well.

I started holy freze but was having so much fun messingh with the other auras that I am now mainly fanat/convict depending on the situation.

Welcome to the forums!!!!

Welcome to the forums. Can't really say anything more as everything worse saying has already been said :)

Good luck and remember to watch out for PKers.

That's exactly right, especially so for an elemental pally. The CB is great for big bosses and special fire immunes alike. One weapon that is really easy to get (as I assume given your recent entry into the the game UMs will not be growing on trees) is Crushflang. It's fast, has good CB (30%, IIRC), and for a elemental zealot, the physical damage is irrelavent. Even better, since with Crushflange you have low physical damage, if you run into some Iron Maiden "unexpectedly", you will in all likelyhood survive just fine (only phys damage returned) The downside is of course obvious, you won't be leeching much life back while you zeal. I have used the ol' Crushflange on zealots well into nm.

Also, a Rhyme pally shield is another easy to make item that has great mods, which can be augmented by the natural resists or ED that pally shields get.

Lastly, don't forget to collect those flawless and cube to pgems, you can get a lot of what you need as a zealot for pgems; you'll just have to endure a lot of WUW/WUG games to get them.

Welcome to the forums.

Welcome SoulTempest,

I agree with Stimm.

I used a Holy Fire pally back in 1.09 when chipped gems were tradable items. Got him to lvl 28 or so and used Kinemil's Awl and ran around act 1 normal collecting gems.

Holy Fire, imo, in nm or hell would get you killed due to its aggro nature and low dmg - makes every monster that gets in the radius come screaming towards u all at once...

I'll take the paladin to nightmare and see if he can kill anything, if not I suppose gem collector would be a good job for him. My other characters are a bear druid, a mace barbarian, a dual claw firebomb thrower assassin, a lightning sorceress, a skelemancer, and a javazon. The necro has had the easiest time killing regular monsters but I had to use about 30 purple potions to kill andariel because all the skeletons died, and the barbarian easily killed all the tougher single enemies but was getting surrounded by enemies a lot. I'll probably use whichever one does best in nightmare as the main. As for runewords I have a few of the early runes that dropped off countess so looks like I can make steel and leaf and that's it. I saved all my gems and runes for trading and a few unique and set items like arctic armor for trades.

Pks I haven't fought any yet, most players left in the games I saw as soon as hostile was heard. I see lots of posts about midteens characters who can 1-hit kill others being the ones who usually fight and figured I'd wait until I got a character that could farm items in hell to gear up a pk, although I'll still fight in those new player level 9 games because it takes me 30 minutes to get to that level so who cares if it dies.
