Defense vs missiles

I have always been unsure exactly what this means. There are several items that carry this mod but whenever I am around archers I get hit. If you wear enough "defense vs missiles" will you get close to immune against monsters that use missiles against you?
I am just curious how good a mod this is and if there is any sort of formula that can give you an idea of exactly what it does?

It's not a very good mod because most people have their char set at run as default. I suppose if you got a ton of +defense vs missle ('Smoke' alone has like 250 IIRC) and set your char to walk, it might make a noticeable difference, but I doubt it's worth it.

Thanks.Most archers have higher attack rating. Classes that have low defense, like sorceresses, necromancers and amazons shouldn't worry about this mod, as they will get hit anyway. Now barbarians and paladins will make good use of it, specialy if they use stand and hit skills or a ranged attack or spell, like double throw or blessed hammer.

Also, as it has already been said you must not run, else you will getting 100% of the hits, given you haven't run far enough so as to be out of range.*

*disregarding blocking and amazon's evade.

To answer your question, friend, I'm not exactly sure on the workings of Def vs M, but I know that your theory is false.

What I suppose is that it adds standard defense versus missile attacks. Yeah, the defense listed in the character screen.

My guess is it can also be effected by enhanced defense from auras/skills/etc.
