Community Forum, what do I build next?

After only ever making mele builds, I've finally realized I need to make something different. This character will probably be used for cowing, rushing, and I intend on doing all the quests. I'm sure a bit if MFing will be thrown in there, but it's not my priority. My options are:

.09 style Bowazon
I recently found a Windforce, so I figure I shouldn't waste it. I think I've got most of the gear that this build would require(twitch, highlord's, etc.). It looks fun!

Cookiecutter Sorc(meteorb?)
I've got an Occy, Vipermagi, and Rising Sun amulet, and that's it. I'll need to track down a Shako, Tal's Armor, SOJs, etc if I want to make it a true powerhouse?

Hmm..here's my advice:

1. Bowazons SUCK since 1.09 became 1.10. Make one and you'll regret. If you want a cow-er, make a pure lightning LF zon. The best part about javazons is that they can't accidently kill the cow king because of LI.

2. If you wanna MF powerhouse (hell andy, meph, normal and nightmare rusher,) go with a meteor/orb soso. But you need another character as a "stop-gap", meaning another character to clear places your soso can't clear and that is a....

3. Hammerdin.

Honorable Mention: Since you have a melee character (i presume a WW/Con barb) they are good to have around for act 3 hell because of the various immunities (against soso) and magic (hammerdin).

I just got back to playing(haven't played since .09), and I was hoping bowazons were still at least somewhat decent. Guess not. I was actually considering a hammerdin(I have a wizspike, etc), but I'm not sure if I can afford another HoZ, Shako, HotO, Enigma, etc. Obviously, I don't have to go the uber route. As for my mele characters, I have a Lightsaber frenzy barb(absolutely useless. I'll pawn off his Arreat's and make him a mule or something) and a crushing blow/deadly strike/open wounds/static orb Zealot who seems to do ok(when he's not cursed).

Bowazons aren't completely useless...but the 09 variety are.

You might consider a hybrid LF/Strafe zon.

Don't forget that a Rogue mercenary can use WF too.

I had a LF/Strafe zon....uber in normal and nightmare but unless u have really good equipment (really really really really high end stuff) they don't cut it in hell.

For that investment for such good equipment in a 1/2 past 6 zon, i would really recommand spending that on another more efficient character.

I tried all kinds of builds since I'm back, LS/DS-assa, blizzorcs, javazon, frenzybarb and now even an hammerdin. But non of them kill really fast in hell (xcept the blizzorcs, but then the immunities). Seems to me that Hell has become a challenge for me. And I'm loving it! (next to those I also made a few fun-builds which will never work in Hell but are to funny to not try :))

What do you mean by 1.09 bowzon? Do you mean using Guided? If you go with strafe your bowzon will be very good.

If all you're concerned with is killing as fast as possible then just make a boring sorc.

You ever think about starting a fun unique build instead of something everybody's got? I would suggest trying to make a Rabies/Fire Claw druid. There's a guide in the druid forums. I made one of these and it was probably the most fun I've ever had.

Either that or a melee sorc ;) Those are fun too!

Can't afford ANOTHER hoz etc?? (I've never even had a jah or ber.. once I made a 30 res HotO and then the next day the ladder season ended) You can build a decent hammerdin super cheap. All you need is a 4 socket shield and weapon for the Spirit runeword and there you have it. I happened to find a nice 44% all res pala shield and a plain broad sword which I socketed with the quest. My pala was level 80 in two days with no effort.

Also, I have a multi / cold -amazon with full mavina and 350 or so dex at level 81 and she manages hell I guess.. as long as I don't go past act 3.. and there is only one player in the game :xrollseye:

my strafe amazon can kill anything in hell with a single item: atmas scarab. oh, the faith runeword helps too. bowzons worthless...HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

make a strafer with that windforce, throw on mavs helm and atmas scarab, and youll kill everything. no immunities, youll never get hit, you will never die.

i agree that bowazons do not suck, especially not with a wf.
basically all u need is a kick@ss dmg bow and fast attack speed.
my only strafezon is more of a mule nowadays, though i still take her on some pitruns once in a while. And with wf and 125 ias i clear areas pretty fast with strafe/ms.
