View Full Version : Is it just me...

Pulio

Is it just me or are the people on the hardcore forums a little "different," then people on the other forums? I mean a lot of these posts aren't really about anything (take this one for example), and yet that flies here. What is with that? Something I'm missing about HC or something?

Yes, we are a different breed. Most of us are good acquaintances, so the spam is more fun since we know each other's views somewhat. Sure, we have an OT forum, but it's much less personal than a smaller group. Also, we have the inside jokes which people in other places would not understand, so it works out for us.

On that note, AHH! IT'S GODZILLA!

Because hc forum is about everything hc.

e.g. You can't really go to the PvP forum and talk about hc dueling.

Because your characters are not immortal somehow makes the ppl here a bit more real in my opinion.

And after a while, you get to know everyone's writing style and you don't mind the occasional OT/spam thread.

So Pulio, GIB ITAMZ N00B!
(That means 'Welcome to hc forum!')

I read a few posts about dueling in the PvP forum.

Then I went to the task manager, ended the browser process, shutdown my computer, unplugged my modem and exhaled.

Some of the stuff there is :/

Just what is that supposed to mean?

i believe the point that he was making is that we in the HC forum think of things from a certain mindset. we naturally prefer this state of mind over that practiced by the other forums.

so yes, we are different, and as riley stated, these differences make us a close knit group.

unfortunately, checking this forum a dozen times a day and chatting with other legit hc players allows you to feel that your beliefs are the only beliefs, and makes you stop and think when you read posts that conflict with your general principles (oxys post).

Oh go ahead ... you know you want to ....

On a totally unrelated side note I ran into a few of the members of they that remain nameless ... quite funny all in all!!!

I think one of then meant to take a potion and wound up in town with a huge spam tag giving me the finger and saying I was owned. (I was happily cooling my heels in town talking to cain at the time)

Twas an amusing evening all in all. They came in chasing out another PK and acting like PK was all evil and stuff then a few minutes later BAM revealed. *cackles*

There's another reason why there are more OT posts here as well. One thing that you will find if you browse the other forums much more than you do here is the "please gimme a cookie cutter build that I can MF Mephu with". Since many of the regulars here are very experienced llders, pkers, and "alternate build" junkies, they tend to know the game mechanics a little more than the average softcore player. You still some some "build debate" posts, but in the end many of these are rhetorical, as the poster already knows what he/she wants to do anyway. So, since we have fewer "tell me how to play the game" posts, we fill the remainder up with spam.

And besides, now that the days of bludgenoning the stain on the ground that used to be a horse ("PK is evil/immoral/amoral/blah/blah/blah" or MH, etc*) are over, we gotta argue about something, right?

*for the HCF neophytes:legit pking is encouraged, all hacks are not. don't debate it.

To expand on what Nebby said: Not only cookie cutter builds, but all builds involving ENIGMA, GRIEF, CTA etc etc are discussed like JAHs, ZODs and 40/15 as well as 3/3/20 sc grow on tree.

If you really want to play the game like it means something, play HC. What better place to learn how to survive than here?

We tend to be the long-term players because it is not as easy to get bored of the game with your character's life at stake. As such, a lot of us have been around a long time, and as others have said, we tend to know each other on more of a personal level.

I started reading the HC forums back when BofW, Rah, Bravicus, Daver, Demendred, Dave, Real Zealot, AYB, Dutch, Kreit, Beldivus, Wappa, Grey Ghost, RRN, DDS, that Swedish BM guy Barry hates (cant remember his name), posted on a regular basis. Man there were so many back then. Not that they still read this stuff, but sorry to have left more of the founding fathers of the HC forums out. And I started posting around '01 I guess.

The point is, we have a cool mod, even though we don't see him much anymore, we pretty much regulate ourselves anyway, and to many of us this is home. So are we different? Not really. We just have our own values, and you can pretty much sum that up in the HC FAQs stickied here.

Woo that was fun - thx Baalos :D

As long as you have a fairly thick skin, this is definitely the most interesting place to pop in on once in a while. You even get to throw a few crumbs to the bears sometimes ;)

Ya, Baalos, I used to lurk here a lot during those days too, and between Dutch and a few others touting the BM viewpoint, it was pretty fun reading.

And in case no one else says it this time around:

Three Cheers for ZF! Even though he's rarely seen, this is still the coolest forum around!

I lurked back in those days and I still lurk. Even during times when I didn’t play d2 (few months here and there) I still frequently browsed these forums... particularly this one. I can’t remember the last time I stepped in any other forum here at diabloii.net. Anywho, after reading baalos's post I just couldn’t help but post, even though I am damn good at lurking.

Right, Finland, I knew it was in one of those Scandinavian countries. I could picture Seise's tar, but couldn't remember his name. We ought to start a thread on those nostolgic times.

When I said "hate", Stephan, I meant play style, not on a personal level. But you knew that. I just loved the volley back and forth between you two.

One of my favorite memories was when Daver would read something, and laugh so hard he would spill coke over his key board. Good times.

* for the HCF neophytes:legit pking is encouraged, all hacks are not. don't debate it.If you go around making ridiculous statements like the second one, the first one will no longer be true. For the record, many here strongly disapprove of PKing. But as long as both sides behave, and don't wave red capes in the faces of the other side, the blood feud remains calm. But like the Hatfields and McCoys, old grudges never go away, and occasionally open warfare resumes. Hopefully Nebby will start taking his medication again and we can avoid another flare up. Damn troll, lol.

baalos

Doh! Bongo is a name I forgot to mention. And ya, he is very much against the PKing, legit or otherwise. BTW Bongo, do you still play? If you do, you might want to check out the Basin. Be a perfect match for you.

Good to hear you're getting that perscription refilled. Guess I can unload the shotgun and put the pitchfork back in the barn.

Baalos
Yeah, I still play and have been enjoying AB games for a while now. You're on West so we don't cross paths, but I see your posts there occasionally. It's unfortunate that PKing is forced on people, or public games would be more Basinlike.

@ Nerfie - man oh man... Mr Bill. Ya know Tony, theres a lot of names I have forgotten. But you can't forget Mr. Bill.

@ slick4hire - Nay sir, I did mention RRN = Rowdy Red Neck. But ya Connor was there, but he came in around '03 or so if I remember right.

There was that law student that use to post too. Hard to remember his name... He was deployed to Iraq right after 9/11. I always enjoyed his arguements too.

Cant forget about Toli either. Some others... Remember Solwolf, Bandit, Shadow?

I still laugh over Cracker's banning, and his goofy brother too. Who can forget Mikey with his backwards Hydra PKer? For all those that forgot or dont know, that is the guy that wrote the first trigger scripts that all the kiddies use. *ponders* if only he use his power for good instead of evil.

Folks, it's guy (and gals) like these that make this forum great. Lots of them have move on and have been replaced by other masters of the game, but that is what makes this forum different. And now, I believe, this thread has been redirected, if ever so temporarily, back to the thread starter. Mac, if you're out there, feel free to correct my spelling!

And Nebby, I haven't forgotten about your wine bar. Come this spring, we are saddling up and heading to OB!

Our friend Mikey also founded BM, didn't he? Ah yes... anyone who thinks PKers or triggerers (?) are all just pathetic little script kiddies should read a post by old Mike. His posts were surprisingly eloquent and well thought out, although I can't say the same for his arguments.

Are we forgetting Khellendros (Cryocrescent) and Rachelene... hell, I guess even Tecira is worth mentioning... and Webster... the list goes on.

Here's to the people that helped make this forum what it is today (other than Zappa :p ).
