View Full Version : spirit weapon for singers?
Been looking through the guides for singer barbs and not one mentions the use of the new runeword spirit. It has some resists, fcr, +mana, and +2 skills to name a few reasons to use it. Mememe's guides state wizspike>hoto. Where would you place using dual spirit broadswords for example since they have such a lot str req and no dex req?

you don't get resist when it is a sword only a shield spirit has resists
with 2 wizards you also get big stacked resists 150!! and 100% fcr with alot of mana iirc singers are very mana intensive

My own KareokeBarb is wielding a pair of Spirit swords, and he's not doing bad at all - currently lv67, act 2 hell. I prefer it over wizspike for the + skills. Seriously though, has anyone really had a hard time getting resists with a barbarian?
Also, don't discount the + 44 to vitality that you get with a pair of spirits. :xmad:
I wish you could dual weild shields.. haha.
Anyway, spirit sounds good for baba, and so does Insight for a run-away-and-heal weapon swap.
Radical thought : go with Shield/sword

thats a pala setup. baba should dual wield <period>

or just go with 2 hotos, and insight on switch for manaheal

Some people aren't that rich. 2 spirits is a cheap alternative. I'm not saying they're better than dual wizspikes, but maybe one of each would be good. Also they're available much earlier and should be mentioned in new/updated guides as early/midgame gear.

And do you want to put 156 str on a singer barb? or 146 if you get an ethereal monarch? Even with a perfect stat Anni and Enigma that's too much. 2 HOTO's wouldn't be much on top of those 2.

I think that by radiacal though he meant, Shield/Sword instead of Sword/Shield... (it's an OT joke). I find it funny.
It was a joke with a touch of seriousness.
From what you say I understand you don't have enigma nor anni?
If so, you will have to put decent amount of strength anyway.
If I'm wrong and you do have enigma and anni, 156 str is nothing really - especially if you are playing pvm where I find resists much more important then the 400(estimation) life you will lose.
But like somone said : singers should be bold and use 2 weapons.

If only one could dual wield shields...
My singer is using dual spirit and I am very pleased with the results... I hit the 63% FCR Break point, i get like 450 mana (post BO), which is more than Spikes (I read somewhere that +mana per charlvl does not get BOed). 44 vit is 88 life is very nice, and huge FHR is perfect. The resists are an issue, but the skills make up for it I think. I am torn on whether to get the 156 str for monarch, just for the resists.

44 x 4 = 176
Battle orders doesn't account for +vit anymore so you're just getting 176 life~

156 is not that hard, my singer barb has a spirit monarch and only 10 points in strenght: enigma mp, 16stats anni, arreat, 15str sandstorms & mara's and u got enough str to reach 156 (30+10+16+60 (eni @ lvl 80)+15+20+5=156)
with perf stats anni and a lvl 88 char u dont even need to add strenght

I would go :
Singer/ frenzy build : twin spirit rw sword + high cb in gear.
Other singer build : up to your taste.
Using shield without max block is kinda useless i think.

I am making a singer myself and one thing i think will help greatly is putting the Very cheap infinity runeword on the mercenary. I have heard before that singer barbs have it very hard until they reach level 80+. I think however that both spirit and infinity runewords will change this for singer barbs in normal and nightmare difficulty. Spirit gives a weapon thats available long before wizardspike's (However i am not sure if i should stay with the spirirt broadswords or put 55 points into dex to be able to use wizardspike)
LAWBRINGER
After the mercenary get to level 75, the prefered weapon will probably be reapers toll with its chance to cast decrep. So here one woul loose the meditation aura.
One alternative would be to have two low requirement lawbringer weapons on switch and put one point in double swing.
I imagine a singer could, after using taunt to get a nice group of 5 or more monsters (to economize on the mana)
quickly switch to dual lawbringers hack a few times till the decrepify goes of and then switch back to the singer weapons and start singing.
However i wonder if this would be to tedious in reality
use Insight runword on merc. the meditation aura is awesome and the stats rock for those runes (Ral + Tir + Tal + Sol).
using it on my lvl 75 hammerdins merc now and it's so much cooler than redemption. no chance to even scratch that blue bulb :D
imo this is made for a singer since no points in mana are needed any more.

Yes i agree. However the unique tresher reapers toll is also perfect on a merc for any character using physicall damage (except necro). So i wonder if you could substitute 2 lawbringers on weapon switch for reaperstoll. Thereby having both meditation and decrepify. I could see switching between lawbringers and singer weapons being tediuos.
