I never had the mavina set but i do know (looking at stats) that a Ice zon would be the best option.
My HC build:
17 Valk (that included all the +skills from the set)
D/A/E around 50% (that also included all the +skills from the set) You might want to skip these skills in SC if you don't mind dying a bit :D
CS, Penetrate, Pierce to the point of diminishing returns or in the case of Penetrate once you are happy with your chance to hit.
20 FA (+all the skills from the set)
20 CA (the synergy one)
Now the tricky part: I would say get the remaining points in Strafe and Shael the bow, IAS jewel the armour and helm, wear a Highlords or cats eye to get a decent Strafe speed. But maybe you like MS more, in which case invest there. If you love GA, pump that skill. I think my FA/Strafer M'avina was pretty much finished at lv 77 and doing well in hell (act 1 and 2..then the ladder reset:( )
I am deliberately not investigating the "slap 40/15 jools in every orifice" or "wot M'avina is TeH sXXorz" routes.

Mav's is put to waste on anything but a Freezing Arrow/Strafer. The 20% enhancement to Cold Skill damage is just crazy good!
For base STR, I think you only need around 80 or so, as the gloves will give 10 (if I remember correctly), and then you get another 20 from partial set bonuses.
The same goes with DEX. Check out the set bonuses (here http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/sets/sets6.shtml#mavinasbattlehymn ) and just do the subtraction for STR and DEX.
I didn't put any into ENG, and once I met my STR and DEX requirements, I sunk the rest into VIT.
For skills, max Freezing Arrow and Cold Arrow, and screw Ice Arrow. The freeze length synergy is a waste.
Get your Valk to a good level (like 17), get Strafe high enough to leech back mana well (13-14 I think) and then pump Pierce to get multiple "explosions" when each arrow hits multiple targets.
As for the other gear, there are a lot of good choices. I prefer Shaeling the bow, then using Mara's to give me more resists and good Freezing Arrow damage, but Cat's Eye is a good option also.
As for boots, Travs are always good! :) Plus, they beef up your STR, which means more points in VIT.
Does that help at all?

It's also very fun to put a set of Titans and a good shield on switch and use Lightning Fury on everything after it's frozen, if you have spare points later in the game. That would be 20 in LF and 1 in the pre-requisites. As for penetrate, if you can get a demon limb you can free up some points there, as demon limb has charges of enchant. It works pretty well for me with Rhyme and what is quite possibly the lowest set of Titans in existance, as dual immunes are not an issue. But for the basic build, what they said. There's a Frostmaiden guide stickied up near the top of the page somewhere.

I use strafe and FA on my mav. I socketed 15% ias on helm and armor and shael in bow and use atmas scarab for amplify damage. She is my regular pit runner. This is the only set I like to use. Have fun with yours. My stats-minimum strength to use armor after partial set bonus, 100 vita, rest into dex. This is softcore ladder. I had mana problems til i found a dual leech ring. The amp also helps you leech. I have a might merc and use war travs for the added dmg.
