View Full Version : Freeze zon and Strafe zon help
My strafe/MS zon has the unique cedar bow
147 dex...not much str and 100 ish vit...base energy
100-350 damage with strafe, 20 more with normal attack...valkyerie is almost indestrutible, lvl 45...nm act 2...
equipment:
the cedar bow mentioned...
hawkfail
leech rings (life and mana)
leech ammy...i think it adds up to 6% life and 8 mana
mask of horrors...
+2 bow skill gloves
vidala boots...
random belt
i don't htink i'm doing enough damage... and chance to hit scarabs are 50%...
that's bad...any suggestions?
i'm thinking of replacing belt with string of ears, mask with vamp gaze...armor...i'll juss find realy high defense armor...not sure on other equipment...and i wanna replace my cedar bow with magewrath (rune bow unique)
don't have WF or buriza....
for my freezing arrow zon... should i max out all freezing arrow synergies? cuz that's wat i plan to do...

I'm no expert, but I'd advise Maxing Cold and Freezing and ignoring the other one (Ice Arrow) -- it doesn't add much in hell.
You're not doing enough damage. My strafer's doing...errmm...373-1368 with a Buriza. Whisper me as *Shandrakor and I'll see if I can't find u a better bow.
AR: The easiest answer to this is maxxing Penetrate. I also keep a Demon Limb on switch (one can be had for Pgems) to ensure I hit things.

i juss about solved my ar problems with angelic ammy and ring and more in dex...
with freezing arrow, the first...uh...icey arrow adds the most damage to freezing arrow...i think...i have to check again...

I'm working on a Freezing Arrow Amazon at the moment myself. I was actually going to come in here and propose a new idea (more of a spinoff of a current idea), but since you already have this thread up, I'll leave it in here.
For a typical Freezing Arrow Amazon, I would definately max Freezing Arrow and Cold Arrow, and leave Ice Arrow at one point (freeze length is pointless when you get it from gear). I would also recommend making an "Indestructible" Valkerie and sinking a few points into Strafe to leech back mana. After that, drop your remaining points into Pierce to get the multiple-explosion effect, essentially getting 2-3+ Arrows for the price of one.
The gear is where I am torn. For a pure PvM Amazon, I would say that Mavina's set beats anything else hands down. It gives you +5 to Bow and Crossbow skills and tacks on 20% enhanced Cold Skill damage (equivalent to about 3-4 more skill points in Freezing Arrow). It also comes with a fair amount of IAS, so you can fire off tons of Freezing Arrows fairly rapidly. The ONLY downside to Mav's that I see is the low base damage of the base, and the consequential poor mana leech from the set. Because of this, I have always found it necessary to wear a Manald Heal or a rare Dual Leech ring to compensate. Otherwise, I will burn through my mana bulb in a matter of seconds, and be totally screwed as cows come laughing at me.
The "spinoff" idea that I wanted to propose was using a setup similar to what a lot of people suggest to MF in the cow level with a Lightning Fury Amazon. Typically, I have heard of people recommending:
Titan's (.09 item that gives 4 to skills, 40 stats, leech - similar to Oculus, Arreat's, Bartucs, and Lycander's Aim ;) )
Stormshield
Enigma
Shako
Jav Gloves
Mara's
SoJ
Dual Leech Ring
Razortail/Goldwrap (depending on need)
War Travelers
So, that setup gives 11-12 to skills easily, and a good 150 magic find. Now, take this idea and apply it to a Freezing Arrow Amazon (if it is possible and/or viable - that's what I want to know)
Lycander's Aim (4 to bow skills, mana leech built in, plenty of mana boost)
Shako (lots of mana, good skills, and magic find)
Mara's (good skills and resists, not much else needed)
Enigma (good skills and magic find, and I can tele away if cows hurt me :( )
Bow Gloves (lots of potential, but tough to find!)
SoJ (mana and skill)
Razortail/Goldwrap (based on need)
Dual Leech ring (maybe won't need?)
War Travelers
I figured that with this setup, I would do slightly less than a setup with Mavina's set, but with a lot better magic find and + skills to my Passive Tree.
Anyway, those are my thoughts for Freezing Arrow thus far. I'm sure there will be more to come. Any suggestions for the Freezing Arrow cower are welcome!

Looks like you don't have enough IAS n leech (mostly from low physical dmg).
Gear-wise, I'd suggest these affordable (Pgems) changes:
Helm: Vampgaze > Face of Horror
But I'd look for Stealskull ( dual leech + IAS)
Ring:
Get a Ravenfrost ( xtra dex=xtra dmg, +cold dmg=longer freeze, +AR )
Armor:
Hawkmail? Ewww. Even a 4 soc gothic plate socketed with 4 x plain IAS jewels will be a huge improvement. Defense is not critical unless your zon is using a Defiance merc. But you'll be surprised how well a Twitchthroe armor serves a zon. Aim for IAS of 89 if possible.
Gloves + boots: Go with Sigon's set for bonus 30IAS, 10LL, 10 strength
=> BEST VALUE COMBO
Belt: Orphan's set belt / Mavina's (for more ML)
A Magewrath on switch can also help you with the mana leech when the blue bulb is low.
Hmm maybe u placed too much into vitality at this stage. From this pt onwds keep adding dexterity. My lvl 45 zon was also using Kuko (b4 breaking out the WWS) but has >200 dex. You need to hit your targets to leech so boost that AR with Steel charms.
If you haven't already, get the Act 2 Offensive merc for his Might Aura. That will boost your dmg.
If you need more info, check out the strafer guides above. They are stickied for a reason you know... :xears:
