Howdy :xman:

Yes, I'm new to the disturbed world of Necromancy and Mad Mantis the beer is on me. I started playing not so long ago with a Werewolf but to my surprise the nature loving guy didn't impress me much. So after releasing my wolf into the wild I thought I would turn over a new leaf and study Necromancy. Though, I'm still not ready to play due to my heavy cold, chesty cough and quite a banging headache which I found myself with over the weekend and it hasn't left me since.

Anyway, before I enter the world of DII once more with a new story to write I was wondering which variant of the Necromancer I should choose. I've noticed the Summoner is a popular build and very easy to solo the game with but does it pack a punch in team play? I ask this question because I only play HC and so I find myself in parties for the majority of the time I play.

There are a few paths I would like to take my Necromancer on and they are...

- Summoner
- Poisonmancer
- Bonemancer
or a Summoner Hybrid

Could anyone suggest a suitable build for me? I leaning towards the Summoner or Summoner/Poison hybrid.

On a side note, how much str/dex do I need to equip full Trang's set? I don't have the set and play mostly untwinked, however I would like to see myself wearing the set in the ever so near future.

Regards,

Welcome Newcomer to The Darkness. Thanks for the brew :drink: and feel free to raise some corpses.

Summoners most definitely pack a punch in team play. The Skellies won't be as fast with 7 other people in the game as they were when you played alone, but they will still be able to contribute to the team. With help from the skills of other team members the Skellies will become highly effective. Summoners are well suited to team play.

- Summoner

or a Summoner Hybrid

Well the Summoner and the various Summoner hybrids are very well suited for team play. The minions these builds have can soak up damage and deal it out. They will make team play safer for everyone.

The pure Poisonmancer can inflict a lot of damage on a lot of monsters. The drawback is that you need to be careful around other sources of poison. You need to figure out damage rates and compare them. Having a high damage Nova is nice, but you will contribute nothing to the party if the Zon constantly overrides your Nova. Also you need some gear to compensate for the resists. Poisonmancers have a lot of flexibility though. You have a lot of extra points to distribute after you max your synergies.

The pure Bonemancer has an attack that only very few monsters are immune to. They are less flexible because they need a lot of points into synergies. Unless you abuse Marrowwalk. I can’t give you a lot of advice on this build since I don’t particularly enjoy playing Bonemancers. What I do know is that you need to at least reach that 75 FCR bp.

For team play a Summoner hybrid will serve you well. You will add safety to the party and a welcome amount of damage. Both hybrids are very viable and we have guides for both.

On a side note, how much str/dex do I need to equip full Trang's set?

The set doesn’t have any Dexterity requirements. The highest Strength requirement is 106 on the Bone Visage. The Cantor Trophy grants +25 Strength.

I gotta go quick, so I'll make this quick.

My recommendations;
Bone for PvP / Summon or Summon hybrid for PvM

Good Luck w/ your nec. :xtree:

The Poison/Skeleton Hybrid is one of the most powerful builds in the game, but it is very item dependant.

EDIT:
Woah, whats up with the linage II popup weirdness?

If you have never played the necromancer before i would recommend sticking with being a Skelemancer (http://strategy.diabloii.net/news.php?id=509) (summoner/skeletons/mages). Not only are they nice and simple but a good solid build to play which brings out the strength of the necro class without the need of speicalised equipment to be effective. (untwinked)

Basically
=======
MAX Raise Skeletons
MAX Skeleton Mastery
MAX Corpse Explosion
MAX Mages (optional but personally recommended)

1 in all curses

1 pointers - Clay Golum, Golum Mastery, Summon Resist, Revives.

May want to put a point in Bone armor as well.

you won't go wrong with this build. Good Luck

Hover over PvP in Dennis_KoreanGuy's post, I think certain keywords set it off, hell, it might show up in this post!

EDIT: thankfully it didn't

Skellies are the most fun to play at first since it's such a laid back style of play when compared to builds from most other classes, but bonemancers are pretty sweet too, since their attacks are only affected by magic immunes (if I remember correctly). Be sure and give corpse explosion and the curses a good look. No necro should be without them. I just built an MF sorc and am kicking myself for wasting the time when I could have just gone with a bone necro and not had to sweat all the silly immunities. They probably don't kill quite as fast, but they can hurt almost anything while using curses to maintain crowd control. Necros also have some of the best class specific items in the game IMO.

Just to add to what Mantis had to say, Summoners are extremely good in team play, IMHO. The build is designed to complement a front line army with curses, and in team play you get your skeles and revives + some uber soldiers in the form of other party members. They tank for you, you amp for them. They slow and kill with spells, you make them more effective with LR. And especially at high levels, your skeles are still damned fine minions.

You will encounter a couple of situations where team play is a little more complicated, such as playing with redemption using pallys, other necros, and anybody who uses cold and shatters bodies, but overall there are plenty of corpses to go around. I believe you will find the necro is an asset to most parties you join and they, in turn ramp up your killing power by acting as your army.

On last thought on party play: you might not want to raise your full army of minions when playing with others for a couple of reasons. First, they probably won't be necessary except maybe when dealing with bosses; second, it can lag other users with slower computers; and finally, they are tough to keep up with, especially when you are switching curses in a hurry, dimming those archers, amping the melees, and tossing in LR on occasion before switching back to amp for corpse explosion. It is fun, it is busy, and it is easy to get lost when things are moving fast.
