I don't have any of those hack things ... although I did come across an ITH ITAM on an old sc char from waaaaay back when I first started and didn't know what was possible or not. (I just thought it was a really good ammy :D)

I used maphack like 2 years ago (literally) when I played SC, for like a month, then realized it was cheating, and that it was really lame and playing with it was no fun anyways... Havent used any dupes or hacks or anything like that since... I had an occy ring.. which I sold to Gheed (someone dropped it in a game, so i grabbed it and sold it to the gamble screen)

So yep, add me to the legit crew.

you know what makes me feel kind of sad? when i kill someone in a duel game, and find out later that they were wearing pvm gear. i wish i could know that for sure before i take the ear T_T.

there should be a sign above their head (only visible to me of course) that states that they are not worth the ear. or not. or, this remorse is fake, and i really dont feel bad after killing people.

Haven't touched Maphack since last bit of 1.09 (which is when I started playing too... so no "But you cheated through 1.00 till 1.09-firsthalf!).

Only like a few (really few) features in it... most notably removing Shenk's death animation.

Don't quite see the need for it, since I tend to clean maps anyway.

Way back in 1.09 when I still played softcore, there was a period of a couple of weeks during which I finally gave up trying to compete with people's crazy dupes and hacks and so I caved and traded for two Oculus-rings. Fantastic rings they were too, but thankfully it was around that time that I was beginning to realize just how lame SC was and was starting to think about trying HC.

Otherwise, I cheat all the time. Anytime someone else is using maphack in a game, I usually can't help but follow their directions. Sometimes I'll let the uberly decked out Ebayers and dupers do the grunt work and just sit back and take the experience. I've even used duped runes and duped items as a medium for trading for "legitimate" items. I kill Mephisto all the time with my sorceress as well, because he drops the best items, instead of just playing the game as it was meant to be played and using whatever is dealt my way. I've taken a look at the game code and discussed with other people which areas in the game have the best drops and then focus on those areas when looking for better items.

I try to limit my cheating by playing by myself. That way I figure that I'm not hurting anyone, and that I'm just playing the way I like, but make no mistake, I am not a legitimate player in the strictest sense. However, I do not use maphack, chickenhack, I don't dupe or buy items off of Ebay, and I don't even trade very much, limiting the amount of illegitimate contraband that filters through me, so in many ways, I am more legitimate than some.

I must admit, I once tried to download maphack a year or two ago because I knew a lot of people who had it and they kept telling me to get it so I thought I would try it for a few hours or so see why everyone thought it was so good. I go onto the interent andwent to the website my friend told me (no idea what it was) and looked for the downloads. I started downloading one then I realised that it was a.exe file. Now most people would see nothing wrong with this but the thing is, I use a macintosh computer, not a pc. I then spent the next hour searching for a mac capable maphackand found absolutely nothing. I thought, if this is how good maphack is then I can't be bothered getting it because it has been such a waste of time.
So I too will raise my hand and join those in the maphack free area or the room.
PS: Macs rock.

Stop to collect every penny in ground (wich annoys others hehe) I always annoy people in duel games to show their gear when i havent seen the build before. And the good part is that when i say i dont mh, they show their weapon and gear. And uh i have seen some sick weapons in rare form ^^475% ed tomahawk anyone confess? ^^

I havent ever used a hack in diablo. Once when i got net and started playing in b.net, i meeted a 5x something barb ww pk.. with my 7x something druid.. he scanned my items.. and then asked if i played in hell diff.. i said yes... then he asked how to hell i have survived hehe :D I got blues/rares all my items hehe

Then he said to join his game.. and after i joined.. he started to dropping items .. hellslayer was one of them.. and in that time i thought it was the most uber item i knew ^^

Later when i joined gat, i still had those couple items.. and i talked about that and i knew by then dupes etc.. and i said to fellow member(tloopz) that im not sure that my hellslayer is legit ^^ we sold it to gamble screen to gheed and tloopz was nice and gived me the new one :)

Many times i have seen that people give up to their greed when they see someone muling uber stuff and steal some items. And the saddest thing is: If they have asked that item, they would have got it.. and free.. depends of item thou.. normally skiller charms arent stuff that people hand over like candy :D

Hi Arto,

Tloopz was one of the original KTA'ers, and like the rest of KTA we never use hacks of any sort. Probably why it takes us so long to get from Normal to Hell, we are untwinked using only items we find, and we are forever getting lost, going places on the maps that we don't really need to.

Tloopz behaviour you describe above was typical of him. He was 100% legit, friendly and very generous. A pleasure to game with. Pity he doesn't play Diablo anymore.

Tloopz´s little brother plays diablo and is in gat also

I try guide his way, so he doesnt fall in illegit things.. he have experienced lots of deaths with his hc chars and to young person its very hard place to stay legit when death comes to him in 3-4 times in row :/ To those gatters who wonders my patience towards simpan is now explained in here hehe ^^ If i can help even one person not to fall in cheating, im very happy legit player.

I miss also tloopz, we played lot with each other and we had great time :)

Never downloaded a hack - dont really feel the need to do it - whats the point.

Used to do public baal runs - dont really bother now...........

If I need ITAMZ, I try to get them myself, or one of the gatters helps out.

Basically I only play the game for the friends I've got online - not to get the "Leet" gear.............

Hell, If I wanted that, Id play single player and use atmas............

Blimey, it's up to 25094 now (from the same site). That's an increase of 417 maphackers in 24 hours. There is some joy in a bizarre sort of way from this statistic. There are tens of thousands of people, considering the age of the game, all out there slaying mephi's and baals all around the world (with a complete map)....

I don't claim to be legit out of moral superiority or such silliness, I just wouldn't trust the sites that give or sell hacks. If they can hack a game I am sure they can get past my little firewall.

That and the fact that i have enough trouble paying attention to everything on my screen as it is - and the thrill of discovery is half the fun.

I remeber when he was "discovered" nobody really cared because he was a long time forum member. But if some new guy came onto the boards, hell say me for instance, and I posted some screenshots of duels I was in, and people discovered I had maphack, I'd be chased from the forums in a heart beat. Double standards are pretty grand.

Well personally I don't care what others do. Except lie. If you use MH fine, just don't say you don't.

I don't use it because I still like the rush of suddenly being someplace I shouldn't be (read really scary monsters). I'll admit there are times when I wish I could see the map, like when it takes me 20 or 30 minutes to find the Durance 3 door. But I will stick to playing the game the way it was intended. If you have every played with me, you know I am legit or noob or whatever.

Well, maybe I exaggerated a bit. However, it still felt like it was at least 50/50 with Sip, when in all honesty nobody should of been defending him or siding with him. Because he was a forum regular with many friends and such, too many people let his obvious cheating slide. As far as Melvin goes, I wasn't around to see that thread.

Top 7 reasons why nebby plays legit:

(1) I R 2 STOO-PED TO NO HOW TO DL HAXXORS
(2) don't really see the point in cheating at a game that isn't really that hard to begin with
(3) the thrill of running into a pack of fanat dolls in the sewers and trying to stop the reflex of strafing before...ouch.
(4) sometime play on a mac, no hax on macs.
(5) like to "feel the love" in the room when it takes me more than 1.6 seconds to tele down to throne, while the MH-losers wait safely in town and *****.
(6) seems kinda like cheating at solitaire, which, well, is just silly
(7) the maps aren't actually that complicated, particularly if you have ever made your own maps in SC or WC- similar modular design.

I used to be among the worst there possibly was...I botted, I had maphack, I chickened, I ahd my occy rings, my bugged ammy,bugged storm,bugged valor,bugged occy. At one point I had a zon that did 25k dmg. I was into everything but legit on D2. Towards the end of 1.09 and through the rest of 1.10 I have been totally legit, and got my act cleaned up real well.

I'm a legit D2 player.

With the amount of $$ some people make on this game I can't say that I blame them. A couple grand would go a long ways towards college loans for me at the moment.

Can't say that I really care that much about it either, i'm not one to get all worked up over something as trivial as maphacking/botting in D2.

There was a point in time where I did get all bugged by it, but I realized I was being a tool and just chilled, it's all pretty funny now. I got my entertainment out of the game and went above and beyond the 50$ it cost me, so i'm kewl with it.
