View Full Version : PvM bonemancer
How viable is this build? I think it has potential because of the ability to instantly create "tanks" out of bone walls, bone prisons, etc - but is it viable in hell untwinked? Also, is casting IM on mobs and having them kill themselves on walls a viable strategy - will it do even the slightest amount of damage?
Finally, does the "thorns" aura somehow apply to walls? I assume it doesn't, but can't hurt to ask right?
I find it viable in PvM. Just use Bone Spear instead of Spirit. [On my Bonemancer, my Spear does more damage, anyway]
Untwinked, it's easy enough to find the relatively cheap runes and a wand for a White.
Mayby u should try to use CE+amp? just use bone spear to create few corpses, summon some bone walls for tanks, amp and spam CE. :xsmile4:
Vs boss monsters ( diablo, baal ), use clay golem + decp curse, they can hardly move:D Bone spirit might be more effective vs bosses after they are both maxed, so use it.
For merc i would suggest nm defencive, HF merc. Equip merc with kelpie, and you got yourself the ultimate slow! My boner is lvl 43 atm and i have maxed bone spear, 1 point in sprit, and bone wall is allmost maxed, he can kill pretty nicely in nm act1 and 2. I won't spend any points to prison, coz i want morrow bug, but if you are playing single player and getting morrow walks i very unlike, then go ahead and max prison, itīs very usefull skill! :xrollseye
IM and thorns are pretty useless skills in 1.10, i would use much rather HF merc and decp/amp curse.

I was actually thinking of doing CE, but I kind of end up being tight on skill points that way. How many hard points do you have in CE?

My first ladder character was a PvM boner, and though I messed up the build a bit (points in summons and curses etc) he was quite effective.
I'm running one again right now he's at level 80 and doing well in hell with less-than-uber gear.
My previous one became a patriarch wearing a vipermagi, white, lore helm and a homonculus. This one looks to be doing the same.
Build wise I just pump all the bone synergies and put one point in all the right hand side curses. I only have one point in CE, since with only a few +skills items the radius becomes more than sufficient.
Bone walls and prisons coupled with decrep (my main curse) do a really admirable job at keeping you safe, primarily because the walls stop most projectile attacks as well. I use spear almost exclusively really, since the damage is as good as spirits and you can hit multiple targets in one go, the spirits I reserve for pesky (and dangerous!) enemies that are highly mobile, like GLOAMS. these are hilariously dangerous to my build since their lightning pierces walls :/
Good and cheap things to outfit yourself with early in the game are low level runewords. I got pretty far using a Rhyme (Sheal + Eth) shield (in a +bonespear necro shield) a Lore (Ort + Sol) helm and a Stealth (Tal + Eth) armor. Along with the indispensible White (Dol +Io) wand that had +bonespear and +bonespirit mods, found after a long line of shopping trips to nightmare Drognan in act2.
Later on you'll probably want a pair of Trang Gloves, a Homonculus, a vipermagi, a Gloom's trap belt and a pair of manalds, all relatively inexpensive (barring the homonculus) and these WILL get you to patriarch.
This build is really my favorite, I enjoy playing it so much, sure it's not a 100k damage monster but you can deal with most things. And when things go wrong (and they will ;) ) you just spam bonewalls like there's no tomorrow and run XD

I've just started one of these and it was a bit of a struggle until I had bone spear, but after that, it got easier. Just needed a good supply of mana pots.
My other necros are summoner and poison. The summoner has real trouble in act2 with the maggot lair and arcane sanctuary. With the boner it's a breeze - they all line up nicely and you get loads of monsters with one single bone spear. The first time I've actually enjoyed these areas with a necro.
Can't wait to get this character further on ...

It's viable. In my own case, my (theoretically) PvP bonemancer became my second Patriarch. Here is the only commandment of the Bone: When in Doubt, Thou Shalt Spam Bone Wall.
When I'm partied I often have to have a friend make a tp from the other side, because I tend to get just a wee bit carried away with the Wall. But if it can't get to me, it can't (for the most part) kill me. Bad Vipers can be had quite cheaply; stick a Pdiamond into your Homunc, possibly wear a helm of resista and you're good to go.
