I keep hearing that soloing is a good option, but I wonder; if you solo, why not just play single player, or better yet, play another game? I know many of you would say, "play with your damn friends!" Well, I don't have many friends I would trust in HC and even if I did, I can't just tell them to play with me whenever I want.
TPPK and other cheap tricks/hacks have gotten so out of hand, it's like walking in a minefield while having gunfire raining on you like in WW2. These and pkers have made many people play solo. Of course, in the end, it's always the player's choice whether to play solo or not (if they have friends who play a lot, this is not a problem).

Fire Enchanted Ancients
I usually play by myself or with a small group of people in public games when I'm not at the baaling levels. For example, I dont level 1-20 in tristram runs and sewer runs, I never even GO there. I have an enchantress, so I just enchant myself, and play to my hearts content.. I can still chat with people and all, but I hardly ever see PKers. Even if you do, legit PKers are easy to avoid, and its easy to avoid playing with TPPKers... I mean cmon, you believe that necromancer called "xxxBonerNecroxxx" that he is a summoner? Or that amazon shooting GA's is really the only non tppk GA zon around? No. If you see GA's or Bone spirits in public games, dont stay around. 1 out of 50 is telling you the truth, and wont PK you, the other 49 times, its a matter of seconds until they hostile, and someone dies, or everyone chickens.
In other words, if you're heads up, it IS safe to play in public games. Just know who else is in the game, and watch the Zons and Necros in particular, and the occasional wind druid. Other than that, chances are, you're good to go. And if you EVER see GA's or BS's in the air, dont stick around to confirm.
So yeah, no need to play solo IMO, I only solo when I'm mfing or muling, during my leveling, I'm VERY rarely in a solo game.

Three words :
Fire Enchanted Ancients
solution:
use a throwing weapon with high damage to throw when after you whittle their life to a sliver. If they're phys/immune, try to find/use an item with amp,
(ex. chance to cast amp). Problem solved.
Not solved. FE Ancients in Single Player isn't a problem cos of their explosion.
It's a problem cos if they hit you, you're dead. (Particularly troublesome for that thrower.)

Soloing sucks. Blizz has changed the dynamics of the game such that parties are the only way to go in Hell. Sure there are builds that can solo Hell, but their progression through the Acts is usually very slow. The Hell solo builds that actually have a decent kill rate are cookie cutters that tend to get boring real fast due to lack of variety in stats, skills, gear, & strategy which I think is what makes this game so interesting in the first place. Also monster/boss immunities makes a lot of areas impossible for many builds.
Single player can be very frustrating even with a muling utility. Most builds can survive to midgame with junk gear, but Hell is a different story. Your choice of builds and characters is limited by items found (item & char editors are evil). On the realms you can trade all the good items found for builds & classes that you either hate or just will not play and trade them to get items that will help your current or planned chars. Single players your just screwed.
As for playing another online multiplayer game, It's a challenge to find one as fun as LOD that does NOT have a monthly access fee. The only one I enjoy as much as D2 involves running around, dueling with a lightsaber in a gigantic free for all melee: Jedi Academy.
Most my friends haven't been playing lately, or are doing things I find pointless, like playing in Asia just because of the easier ladder or doing endless MF runs. And in fact most times I log on there's no-one there already, no MF, no nothing. There are still some guys that insist in using cheats, and that makes me not like to play with them that much. I really preffer going through the maps and killing most monsters normaly. Some mh B runs are o fast I don't have time to sell couple of armor and fix my weapons. There are also the DII classic players. I know many people from classi, wich I loved, but now that there is one barbarian build, tht is BO slave, it's absolutely not cool to play it. Really, BO slaves and aura-only pallies are for suckers, in my view: one needs monster slaying.
I like my chars (in fact I only got 1 high lvl guy) but it's been getting less and less amusing lately.
I agree that if you are going to play single, it's better to go play something else. There's a bunch of amazing games out there. Diablo II is good when played with nice players in your party. I myself will play GTA San Andreas as soon as I put my hands on its PC version. It hasn't been resealsed yet, tough. I also don't have videogames anymore (just a N64) so I cant play many games. My video-game never provided enough good games* so tht i could be entertained all the time, and Diablo II along with some really nive people I met there occupied that time.
*basicaly the 2 Zelda, the 2 Konami football games, Star Fox, Star Wars RS and not much more. I couldn't play the cool Conquer's game, tough. Most games were a failure, like Castlevania, Cruis'n USA, Mission Impossible and many more. And damn: no Capcom fightning games! That's not a video-game!

i solo most all of my characters after level 12-15. I may play with 1-2 close friends i trust but i solo most of the time.
I play HCL instead of single player becuase of all the items and things you can get on HCL that you cant get on singleplayer. I also like the possibliity of the Dclone and being ranked on the ladder.

Nope - you can only be friends with people you have never peed on.
But at least now I get to take down the plexiglass pee shields I had errected all around my desk.
And I play on the realm as oppose to single player because if I was single player I would have no chance to annoy and or harass people in the channels when they say foolish things. I also like the option to make friends with people by NOT performing bodily functions on or around them.
Play solo, because you can play Ladder, you can find Ladder only items and runewords. You can still trade if you want - getting items you would never see on SP. And you can find/make friends.
I am pretty suer that joining KTA East/West/Europe or GAT is a viable option for you. What realm do you play anyhow?

I would ask myself the same thing.
I have played Single Player for a long time, and I will continue to do so. I like being lagless, and not being rushed in any way.
I´ve played many crazy builds. Even builds that I think won´t be able to make fast, safe (or any!) progress in Hell. I´m OK with that. Over time, you learn a couple of tricks...
I get all the D2 "interaction" I need from participating in tournaments and discussions in the Single Player Forum. Some of the tournaments have severe item/skill/stat restrictions, which can provide interesting challenges even in the early game.

I know about the Dclone not appearing in SP, but what other items are you referring to? I only know about 3-4 runewords that were added to the realms. Anything else, you can get/do in Single Player (including all the cube recipes)
I play online ladder mainly so I can trade with other players. I find lots of valuables and I prefer using things I find myself, but some things are just too hard to find... I mean who can find one stormlash, much less two. Playing online opens gives you much more flexibility in gear selection.
I did play a lot of single player when I didn't have internet access though. Players 8 rocks!

I solo because I don't have any friends that play anymore, but also in SP, there's no chance to see DC, so that's at least one reason to play online. I do occasionally join perm games and level up chars and use to do trist runs with some of my weaker chars to get them started, but for the most part if I'm playing with an MF'er or a pure PvM'er I don't want to have to watch my back or be concerned about anyone snagging my drops.
Aside from that if anyone from the forums wants to do some hell Baal runs, I wouldn't say no...
I have seen mods that would allow you to have packs of Diablos in hell, and many other things. Also people first discovered things for Uber Diablo because they found him in the game files. Haven't they made a mod to spawn Uber Diablo in single player mode, along with the annihilus charm drop?
