Little MF Question

I was wondering something about how much mf you have. My friend said he had over 500 mf and wasn't finding anything from hell andy and meph. Then he said his friend told him to lower his mf to about 330-350. He did and he said he started finding much better stuff. Could this be or is it just some fluke? I had 330 mf and found shako, tgods, and arreats off andy then went up to 360 or so mf and started finding crap? Is it just a string of bad luck, like I've heard about, or can lower mf actually be better than huge amounts of mf?

I was running with about 280% for a long time, and since I raised my total mf to 374%, I have noticed significantly more unique drops. Lots of people talk about mf being bugged, but I haven't seen any evidence that this is true. MF is mostly luck anyway... if meph never drops a Monarch it's kind of hard to get an SS, whatever your MF. :xgrin:

The correct number in HC is actually 376%, but you must be wearing at least one item that has mf based on your clvl.

Also, the correct number in SC is 956%, and it only works if you use a bot.

Your total mf affects the 4 types of drops you might get. The following is taken from the startegy compendium linked in this site. http://www.diabloii.net/strategy/x-guides/magic-find.shtml

This is an 09 guide but I think it still holds true. As your total mf increases your likely to find a unique increases but only by a small amount. However your likely hood of getting magical increases even more.

Notice your % to get magical items with 300% mf vs 600% its doubled.
Now look at your chance to get uniques using same amounts. 300% = 211% 600% = 266% by doubling your overall mf your chance to get uniques only increases 55%. So your best overall mf is in the 300-400 range

Ya valar, there is no amount of mf that is better than any other. It is 100% all about luck really....All you can do is wear as much mf as you can before it starts to hamper your surivability and leave it at that. If its 50 or 600, whatever...AS long as you can do runs, you will find stuff.. It always comes in streaks too, no amount of mf will change that. If someone didnt find stuff at 600 mf and switched to 300 and started finding stuff, it was just luck and had nothing to do with the amount of mf he had. Just stick to your 340 ish amount you have now because your gear is solid and its a fair amount.

Thanks guys for the replies. I was pretty sure that's how it worked anyways. My friend must have just had a nice luck streak. I'll stick with my 350 or so mf because I still have max resists/max block etc etc.

My best drops have been when i have forgot/not changed my switch (ali with dual ists& rhyme)

and used only hoto&storm

hehe My all shakos have been found like that :D 3 overall and one was etheal
