Hi i wanna make a dueler pretty bad and i was wondering, since i have all the gear for it, if a level 39 using butchers pupil is worth doing? Some builds i thought of were: charge, zeal is too slow, ww, zerk, and a smiter with hoz. Oh yah and 42 for the baba maybe fer teh arreats. Does anyone know of any tested builds that have been a success? The gear would prob be whistans ed or max, guiluames ed or mx, life armor ed or max or ed or max shaft, wwalks?, angelics, ik belte gloves or ik gloves + boots and string.

If you were going to make the smiter with hoz you'd have to atleast go to 42 to actually use hoz, iirc.
Edit: I don't know much about pvp but wouldn't a head striker or something be better than a butcher's pupil?

One-Hand Damage: (55-60) To (132-149) (93.5-104.5 Avg)
Required Level: 39
Required Strength: 68
Range: 2
Base Weapon Speed: [10]
+150-200% Enhanced Damage(varies)
Adds 30-50 Damage
35% Deadly Strike
25% Chance of Open Wounds
30% Increased Attack Speed
Indestructible
I like the idea of a smiter, but butchers lacks one very key mod for a smiter... crushing blow. Smiters are great duelers, but they rely on CB more than any other mod. Maybe use a 'black' flail or knout? Also, if you go smiter, dont use whistans... go to 42 and use HoZ.

matt: no, CB is pretty minor for smiters in pvp. The more important mod is + to combat skills or 2nd mods. A good smiter should be able to kill anything in 4-5 hits, so crushing blow really doesnt add much.
I was looking through the options and one really struck me:
The Fetid Sprinkler
Holy Water Sprinkler
Base Weapon Speed: [10]
+160-190% Enhanced Damage (varies)
Adds 15-25 Damage
+50% Damage To Undead
+2 To Paladin Skill Levels
10% Chance To Cast Level 1 Confuse On Striking
5% Chance To Cast Level 1 Decrepify On Striking
+160 Poison Damage Over 4 Seconds
+150-200 To Attack Rating(varies)
(Only Spawns In Patch 1.09 or later)
Because of the chance to cast decrep and +2 paladin skills.
But.. yah whatever you want to do. At any rate butchers pupil is not a very good smite weapon since weapon damage and deadly strike dont do anything for smite.

Hand of Blessed Light is also good for the speed (-10 base).
Frenzy barb w/ dual butchers ?

Really... I never knew that... I dueled a pretty damn good smiter with my barb today, and he had loads of crushing blow... he showed me a 'Black' Flail, Guilliames face, I believe Gore Riders... is a Smiters damage really all physical? I mean, I dont have any DR on my barb, but he's also got 3k+ life, and this smiter took that down pretty quickly.
I guess I was under the assumption the Smite did do good physical damage, but really shined for its uninterruptability, and therefore how it can dish out Crushing blow very quickly and effectivly, as well as the others (ow+ds), and that smiters took down high life characters through the use of CB, and their good, though not exceptional physical damage was what then finished them off....

Smite shines because it always hits., which gives always cb I suppose. I'd say cb for smiters are essential atleast in pvm, and I can be wrong since I'm a pvmer wannabe pvper :xrollseye (couldn't find the smiley I wanted). That is also the case why it's bm for smiters to use draculs in sc atleast

What about a fury druid?
That's what I'd think of using the pupil for.

Frenzy baba would be a little too slow and no block. I think i'll try out the fury wolf with the following : 60 life wwalks, bfists, string, shaeld butchers, 15 max whistans, max life armor, helm either max'd +2 fury wolf helm or max'd guiluames, max charms and some lifers, angelics, maxd fury for the level, 1 pt oak since HoW adds no dmg, rest into lycan. Watcha guys think? I made a whole other thread on the helm because this seemed dead so please post about the helm in either thread :xsmile4: .

CB is crucial for smiters... in PvP its 1/10 of health, and Smite dont get much damage, so lets say 1/10 of 1k, its 100, so if u add that to a 1k smite, it do a little more than 200 damage per hit, always hit, and the last breakpoint for smiter IAS is really a joke (something like 50%).
so this is vs reg duelers, with around 1k hp, but vs barbs or druid, that can have 3k hp easilly at those lvl, 1/10 is 300, so 400 per hit, with a twice as high smite, woull hit maby 200 pvp per hit vs a high life dueler. so CB is really crucial.
also a note on CB, im not 100% sure of this, but i think CB caps at 50% in PvP, so get your hand on a black flail and Goblin toe boots, and your setup. (i dont remember cb on black, i think its 40%, so actually you might want to go 10% less and use better boots, like waterwalks, for the life and extra dex that will aid you in getting max block.
then for other gear try going for max +skill, get a +1 barbed shield with mods if u can, a +2 combat amulet, helm im not sure, maby pcrown would be good. guillaumes could be an option but all your gear will be rather low-str req and you dont want to pump str up to 100 only to use guillaumes, and black got good cb on it already. maby a +2 combat skill circlet but im not sure what lvl they are.. and in fact, im not even sure if there is such circlets.
armors ill go for shaft for the dr, and keep a vipermagi in stash vs cs zons or fire druids or sorcs. also i like have a general tandilo on switch and charge with it, then switch and start smiting. 50% slow own .
ok well i hope this of could helped ya, i never made a lvl 42 but i have a lvl 35 and he is pretty rocking (well was befor i riped his gear apart)

My 39 fury druid in .09 used this: butchers (max/ias jewel), weak ed/max rockstopper, shaft, ed/min/max, atod with ed/max, string, waterwalks, bfists, rare ammy/rings. Skills were maxed fury/lyc/HoW. He was able to stand toe to toe with the godly lvl 37-38 ww barbs at the time. (he used a mix of life/max and vita charms)
My suggestions for 1.10 fury using butchers, guilliams ed/-req, either ed or max shaft, angelic ammy/rings or good rares, string, whitsan or atod, waterwalks, bfists or mav gloves, make sure to get 42% fhr or more.
As I recall my 39 druid had around 2.2k life and dmg, I'd say crushing blow and extra deadly > a max'd or ed'd +3 fury helm. You will get 6 fps fury which is fast enough with a shield unless you're up against a fast fury 1 handed druid (esp if he has slow). A ww barb your best bet is to put your back against a wall or make sure he ww's through you, not away or out to the side.

Ok should i ed/ias the butchers? Is ed better in this case ? I have 2x atod's and if i ed the atod i can use it on my baba too, i have an ed/min shaft already and i'd need to get an ed/-req. All the DR will help a lot so i guess shaft is better as oppsed to ed/life. Bfists with guil's will get me 60 fhr iirc. So yah my final questions are: Would ed give more dmg in this case, is oak or HoW better, will an ias jewel in the butchers still give the 6th bp? Sorry for all the questions...haven't done a fury wolf since my eth ribby in 1.9

If you're bad on the juvs, druids are still very forgiving. Go with HoW.

Not 100% sure on the breakpts for fury in 1.10, you should check an attack speed calculator (make sure to factor in wpn switch for additional points into werewolf), also with 45% dr and max block oak is unnecessary vs melee chars, HoW would be a much better choice.

Ok, i have an atod with 85 ed/20 psn. I don't think i wanna use an ed/ias in a butchers as they are expensive and it would seem like a waste. I am looking for a max/-req or ed/-req though.
