View Full Version : frost zealot
I've been following Kitriara's suggestions for this combined physical-cold damage Pal, and its working well. I'm at lvl 49 in NM Act II Dry Hills and have just maxed zeal and holy freeze, with 5 points in holy shield. The guide suggest maxing cold res and salvation next, and I am wondering if the main reason for doing this is the synergy with holy freeze. Does this synergy work even when these two skills are not active? What I have been doing so far is casting holy shield and then shifting to holy freeze. Is there now some other sequence I would do well to follow? Thanks :xfrosty:

Sounds like your doing everything fine. The synergy applies to your Holy Freeze aura whenever your Freeze aura is turned on. It's doubtful you ever you the resist cold aura.... it's only there for the boost it gives on other things. I went for sacrafice instead of salvation for more physical damage.... but salvation is perfectly viable too. Hope you enjoy the build.... they are fun
:xsmile4: Thanks for the reply.
I just got to lvl 61 and can now use the Heaven's Light weapon I traded for awhile back, giving up some good items from other chars. This has two open sockets in it, and I'm not sure what to put in them. I've maxed zeal and holy freeze and am nearly there with cold res, so I'm in pretty good shape. The rest of my equipment is as suggested, except for the Steelrend gloves, which I'm not ready for. Socketing ideas welcomed. :xears:

Also, if you go all cold damage, you do less damage than you would if you went cold+physical.. the last synergy for holy freeze only raises damage by like 7% per point, but sacrifice gives zeal a 12% damage increase.
If you have a high damage weapon (ebotdz), going physical is definately better, but if you have a low damage weapon cold might be the way to go.
I think the guide also makes suggestions on how to socket the Heavens light. Is it an ETH to give your AR a boost, basically reducing monsters defence by -58 (%)?
Popular choices are always SHAELs, but I have no idea about the Zeal BP's here (there is another guide on that one, with and without Fana)
I am close tp 61, about to dust off my Heavenly Light and I haven't made a decision here. First I need to see how well I hit.
I don't think ED jewels will help, as you go mainly for CB if you follow Kitiara's guide...but I wonder what a cold facet would do.
Still..priority would be an increased chance to hit..but apart from the rune it could also be achieved by a BA merc or putting points into BA (even if you don't use the aura, each points gives a passive AR boost of 5%)
BTW, since I play HC, I find Holy shield invaluable, I might even max that before I max Salvation.

Im a lvl 91. I have a CTA on switch. I go like this:
F1 - Zeal (left)
F2 - HF (right)
F3 - Salvation (right)
F4 - Charge (left)
F5 - Battle Command (right)
F6 - Battle Orders (right)
F7 - Holy Shield (right)
First off, the attack pretty much stays on all the time. I usually got out and Battle Command twice (first one boosts lvl of Battle Command - the next one gives +1 skills for a decent amount of time), then Battle Orders. After this I switch weapons, cast Holy Shield and then activate HF aura.

ETH = POOP, but very affordable
For a bigger boost to AR, socket it with a JAH. This works against everything except bosses and other players. Since you slow everything down to the point it almost moves backwards, get yourself a Blessed Aim merc. For a good time, keep a Demonlimb in your stash to pre-buff for boss battles...
Also, if you didnt max Zeal...well, you know the rest. Anyway....CHEERS!

It is possible to do both...this would be at the expense of Holy Shield. I did not add Holy Shield until late in the game. I maxed Zeal, HF, Res Cold, Salvation and I have 15 in Sacrifice.
I have enough dext to achieve max block without HS...HS was added only to boost defense. I have enough plus skills to cast Holy Shield at lvl 16. I believe this is adequate.
These sound like good ideas, particuarlly since I happen to have an unused CTA sitting around as well as a JAH rune. What would you do with the vother socket? I have had a low pd high elem dam wand on switch, to use when faced with Iron Maiden. How do you deal with that?
Thanks for the suggestions. :xsmile4:

Hehe..that might be true..and I notice from the fact that the most expensive builds are discussed in this forum how rich you guys all are. ENIGMAs, BotDs and GRIEFS get tossed about as if ZOD, BERs and JAHs grow on trees.
I always kinda try and give advice in the "affordable" range. With the time I have played on this ladder and the runes I found, I could have made a HotO..but that's where the end of my resources is reached.
Great that you have a JAH around, Rob....

Wand of piercing with charges of LR is a good idea. Since IM can only happen in potentially TWO places (Chaos Sanct. & Worldstone Keep), I tend not to worry about it. Especially since Oblivion Knights don't always spawn in Worldstone...
As for dealing with IM, I tend to take my time in the Chaos Sanctuary. I don't madly click around. I use my ears and my eyes...and if I get hit with IM, I usually wait until cursed again. If you get right next to an OK, you will usually be cursed again realatively quickly.
Another thing I do is use CHARGE to go right for the OK. This is so I can quickly take out the monster that has the highest potential of wiping me out. I call this "Target Prioritization". If you are swinging away at the Doom Knights...you are attacking the wrong monsters. True they can hurt you...but having an OK around laying curses on you is more dangerous than even 20 Doom Knights.
Go right for the OK. Stay in close...take out the monsters that curse you then go after the others. Use your eyes and EARS...and if you get hit with IM, run up to another OK and get yourself Decrepified. Use CHARGE to close the distance on the OK's...and be careful with your ZEAL...do not just click around like a mad-man.

I just entered Hell at lvl72, having taken your suggestion on the CTA. Works great. I am using the equipment exactly as suggested in this guide. Would you modify this? Thanks

I hope you didn't put the jah in your scepter, as there are many more useful things you could do with it. Did you get a blessed aim mercenary, I did and I never regretted it.
