Can I get some correct info on sorc masteries already?

First I read some posts that say that sorc masteries increase elemental damage from melee attack, like if I would use Baranar's Star with sorc and have all 3 masteries maxed it would deal much bigger damage with Baranar.

And somewhere else guys say it is wrong. Then again somewhere else someone says it is correct.

Is it correct or not?

Sorceress masteries will apply to the damage on a weapon if it corresponds to the mastery. Fire, lightning and cold masteries will have an effect on the damage output of a Gimmershred.

I have a build based on this.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough in my answer.
You took the example of Baranar, which is a bad example : Fire Mastery adds fire damage to fire SKILLS, so for example if you use a Demon Machine with explosive arrows, you'll indeed benefit from your mastery.
Concerning Gimmershred, I wonder if the fact that the masteries are applied isn't linked to the nature of the weapon itself (throwing weapon). I'm not experienced enough to give an answer to this specific weapon. Someone else maybe ?

when thrown the mastery won't be applied, only when used as a melee weapon. Further more, it will not be shown on the char screen.
