Pallies get the Vindicators, Avengers, Vanquishers... but what do we come up with (yo I'm a.....a....a trapsin!... heheh thats it!) even something is going on with wind druids (windies) and Bone Necros (Boners variant: Commando)

We should make a list of viable pvp chars and a special name for them. Even though no one but the pvp forum members would use them, it would be fun to come up with:

-Pally-
Smiter: Vindicator
Hammerdin: [none]
Zealer: Zealot (I guess that's fine)
Foher: Templar
Charger: Crusador

-Barb-
Whirlwind (1 handed variant): [none]
Whirlwind (2 weapon variant): [none]
Whirlwind (2 handed variant): [none]
Warcrier: Crybaby (seems ******ed)
Wolfbarb: [none] (Fenris sounds kool)

-Assassin-
Trapsin (Lightning Variant): [none]
Trapsin (Fire Variant): [none]
WWsin: [none] (suggestion: Shinobi)
Kicksin: [none]

-Druid-
Windy: Windy (sounds mediocre)
Fireclaws (wolf variant): [none]
Fireclaws (bear variant): [none]
Elemental Fire Druid: [none]

-Necro-
Boner: Boner (funny name)
Summoner: Commando
Poison: [none]

-Amazon-
Bowazon: [none] (Huntress?)
Javazon (lightning variant): [none]
Javazon (poison variant): [none]

-Sorceress-
Lightning Sorc: [none]
Fireball Sorc: [none]
Hydra Sorc: [none]
Orb Sorc: [none]
Blizzard Sorc: [none]

I havent included hybrids. Following the rules about the pally names, u just mix them up like "Vindicator/Templar" or in some cases a "Templar/Hammerdin" becomes a "Mage". I could update the list every couple of posts but really... hammerdins and javazons... what creativeness.... [sarcasm]

Summonmancer isn't really suitable for duels. And WWsin is called "Shredsin". There is also "Clawsin" but they are very rare now. Fire-elemtal-druid is personally called FED by me.

Suggestion for Trapsin, change to MBSin!
and
Windy to StackyBuggy!

uhh... i was hoping to get away from things like trapSIN.. so mbSIN is kinda... not what i was looking for. same thing for shredSIN and clawSIN. and there is no reason a summonmancer cant win duels... all you need is prebuffing auras, and enigma.

Summoner != Commando.

A commando necro is a fighting necro ;) Often using a bunch of different auras.

Fire Elemental Casting Druid = Firementalist.

Warcriers are usually called bards.
Summoners are called Zookeeprs as well.

I think any sort of wolf druid should be called Fido and any sort of bear druid called Yogi. Then add a desriptive name to the front to tell what skill they use. (Flaming Yogi anyone?) A fire elemental druid could be called a Vulcanist.

Bowazons could simply be called Archers.

ww barbs should be called steel tornados, warcry barbs can be called shamans, trapsins could be called guerillas (guerilla warfare usually involves traps :P)

Pallies get hose names bc they kinda have a historical background ie. knights and such.So i can understand some of them.templar=knights templar a ancient order of knights and so on and so forth. Some cant be explaned but thats just my theory.

dkay
04-12-2004, 02:22
actually your theory is correct. heralds, executors, judicators all have to do with prestigous (look rauth i used it correctly!!!!) positions and classes. pallies are a part of that order.

in my experience all the good builds get one name only. Cheap.

The reason why paladins have the coolest name because paladins have the most variations of charecters. I mean there are 5 variations of the chars that u would need names because the variations brannch off into more detailed abilities. Like a zealot/charger or smiter or foh/smiter or hammer/charger etc.. and besides paladins are the coolest beside druids.

Paladins have such cool and significant names because the Paladin community cares about how and why there builds are named. Vanquishers, Templars, Tesladins, you should have seen the days of back and forth on the forums before agreement was met on build names. Setting your name is about as important as constructing a new build. There will be polls and lots of discussion before a name is set in the community. You will have many players clinging strongly to there naming idea for a build with historical checks and in game significance.

I think it boils down to the fact that Pallies really care about their characters. For the longest time pre-uberhammerdin status pallies had a tough time on the realms. We tagged along in cow games and chaos runs for years. The richest pallies could hold there own, but for the most part pallies were support characters for many 8ppl runs. Pallies were content with Pally duels and coming up with interesting ways to manipulate the world of D2 in numerous fun/interesting/specialized builds.

Names like WW barb, and strafeazon, and hammerdin are usually reserved for dominant cookie cutter builds that take little care to put together. All those boring names were at some point a dominant build thorugh the various patches. And yes, there was a previous time when Hammerdins ruled. Blizzard just gave it back to us,for a while.

Well, as far as I know, warcriers ahve always been called "singers". Which works quite well and should remain that way in my opinion.

wow gunnur we didnt ask for a lecture. we dont care how much people love their paladins. and yes i was around since 1.07 so i know all about the domination of 1.08 valor, buriza, and the whole 9 yards. the point is that other builds need names besides the generic one we give them because we cant think up of something better. coming up with new builds has nothing to do with a name. barbs carefull yplan out their course, and yet they still call themselves ww barbs. Also... stop being so hostile... its a forum and the thread is to name characters.. not scold everyone else.

Sorry if you thought I was being hostile. I got the point of your post. All I am saying is that in the Pally forums names are important. There is a lot of discussion and bickering before a name sticks. Your dilemna is that you think the generic names that exist for many characters should be made "special", like Pally names. I see from your defensive reply to me that your naming problem can't be solved by people like yourself.

"we dont care how much people love their paladins"

"other builds need names besides the generic one we give them because we cant think up of something better"

I think you have made my point

Sit and think about your boring named build and stop playing obsessively until you have come up with a good name. Pitch it on the posts and see what everyone thinks. If it is accepted by forum goers it will pretty much stick. For example, search old posts for naming the build using Holy Shock. There must have been 20 different names out there. I liked electrocutioner, but alas Tesladin has stuck. Tesladin is a pretty cool name for the build. You may know about Tesla's coils and his early contributions to the electricity knowledgebase.

Sorry about the lecture, but there was a lot of D2 before 1.07. By the way, 1.07 was a beta flash in the pan that never really made it onto the realms. If it did, every hammerdin would be running around with 2 duped +1 skill, 10% fast cast, resist all, +life rings.

Forget it. Cookie cutter builds that do well will forever be known as what they are first called. If the first WW barb or Hammerdin owned everyone on his server and would only refer to his build as "Whirlmaster" or "Toolman" or something, then everyone would copy his build and refer to it as "Whirlmaster" or "Toolman." You're wondering why ppl can't have cool, intruiging names for their builds? Because their build is already named. They were already named by unenthusiastic, rude individuals who don't even play D2 for fun anymore. Sadly, they came up with the build or was the one to spread it, and they didn't take the initiative to come up with a half-way decent name for it, and it's our loss.

sadly i think gun valkryie is right. Although I realy didnt mean for these names to be official or anything, kind of just a summary of what people call their builds. Most builds arent very unqiue anymore. A couple that i dont see on ladder to often are:
the mage (i have one myself)
bowasorc
fire claw druids
wolfbarbs
etc.

However, no one really cares how much u LOVE your character... (i certainly dont) and no i dont play obsessively, and yes the problem can be solved by anyone. the phrase "by people like u" is very degrading and if it makes you feel better to crticize others when they are obviously trying to do something GOOD then u have a problem.

also... i dont think anyone bickered about the name of a pally build pre 1.07.
