Since the people here seem to know the in's and out's of the game though this would be the appriate forum to post in. My antivirus pccillin's firewall stops my from joining games. While I can still log on, it will just fail to join or create a game. I can remedy this problem by truning off the firewall but that makes me nervous. Espically since sometimes i forget to turn the sucker back on. I didnt get a screen that says do u want to block this program or anything. When we had McAfee on the computer this is what it did. With PC-Cillin it just blocks it. This isnt an urgent or very important question as Diablo will work fine as it is, it is just something i wondered maybe i could fix with a little patch or something. Any imput is appreciated.

you will need to add a rule (exception) to pccillin's firewall to allow the following ports in both, TCP and UDP:
4000
6112 - 6119
for the help on how to do this, refer to your firewall documentation

As this firewall can probably control applications as well, I suggest to restrict access via these ports to the Diablo executable only.

from what I saw, it doesn't.
It has, however, a control over which addresses have access in a form of:
"Choose the computer that allowed/denied access to your computer"
so, if you want to go fancy you can try to add this for uswest:
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.109
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.110
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.111
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.112
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.7
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.8
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.9
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.11
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.12
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.13
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.107
uswest.battle.net internet address = 63.241.83.108
and I don't know if pccillin just "opens" ports, but it's a PC firewall - hence not *smart* enough to keep them in stealth (not listen to) until connection is initialized by the game.

It's not battlenet that contacts you, it's always your computer that initiates the connection. That's an important difference. Connection attempts from the outside are forbidden by default by most firewalls and you should keep it that way (respectively switch it on and off by hand in case you want to play a TCP/IP game with friends and your computer is to be the server). You just have to allow connections to the outside via these ports.
