Hey, I'm makin a fire claw bear, and before you get fire claw should you focus on using the werebear skills in battle, like maul and feral rage?
Or just be a fire elemental until you get Fire Claws?

If you tweaking heavily(khalim's will etc) you are better off using 1point maul for killing, if you don't twink use the fire skills. Depends what kind leveling equipment you have available.

I have no real great lvling equipment, just a poor veteran here.
Other than that, he seems to have trouble staying alive in human form, do you know any low level items that would remedie that?
FireStorm works wonders :D, with 1 pt into fissure and synergies that is.

Good low level items:
Bloodfists, life and fhr.
Sigons boots+belt, life, resists, ar and leech(add gloves if you need str or OIAS, helmet if you need ar and armor if damage reduced)
Anglic amulet+rings, life and ar(add armor if you need mf)
Cathan's seals, leach
Duskdeep, damage reduced, resists, damage
Twitchroe, OIAS, blocking, fhr and stats
Nokozan relic, fhr, max fire resist, fire resist
I usually use sigons gloves+belt+boots and angelic amulet+rings+armor since I like mf.
For early fighting items with x damage reduced and fire resistance help very well, at act 2 you might also need lightning resists and antidotes. Before act 3 you will probably already have shockwave and all is well in the world of PvM.

I am making one myself now, and he is level 46. I did (and still do) use fissure quite a bit. Not a bad skill. I did use Khalim's will with really good effect at low levels in bear form. Put sig gloves on with another piece and you get pretty decent attack speed. I used full sigons until I hit 28 and started switching my gear to peasant crown, spirit shroud, etc. I kept the sig belt, gloves, and shield until 42. I used a blood crescent sabre (req level 7) because it had a fast attack and life leech, but any fast attack weapon is ok because you are doing mostly elemental damage.
At 42 I switched to an aldur weapon, and at 45 I got a nice surprise when I put on the aldur boots. I didn't realize that 2 aldur pieces gave 150% bonus to ar. Helps a lot. With 1 angelic ring and ammy my AR is 8.5k, and I still haven't invested heavily in dex yet, as I have a stormshield waiting in stash and I will put enough dex in to get max block with it.
I use mostly fireclaws now, but fissure is great for crowds and the occasional cow level.
