I'm not sure if everyone knows this pk exploit already

Hi all. i was just starting to play diablo 2 again after being away since 1.09 and was putting together a Barbarian to play once in a while. I got up to 22 and had been having good luck putting equipment together by finding stuff and hitting "free" games. I joined one game where a 90+ paladin was offering items in the rogue encampment. He started moving towards the gate and seemed like he was trying to lure me over there. Sure enough he hostiles me but I stay in town thinking that i'm safe. Being relatively paranoid, when i see a necro milling about summoning things i start to move further into town but someone clicks on me to trade and i unthinkingly/accidentally accept. I go from trade screen to "Deeds" and my corpse shows up within the boundaries of the town.

I'm not sure exactly how it was done but I thought i should put up a warning here in case it's a newer exploit so someone doesn't lose more than 22 levels and sigon's gloves.

Sounds like the "merc trick" Pally hostiles you, has his rogue merc shoot into the town somehow and it hits and kills you. Usually the person has someone to help him out, such as the person who asked you to trade. They do this so you stand still and are easier to hit. Sorry about your loss. Live and learn.

Townkill. Rogue mercs can shoot into town, though they wont target people in town. If they shoot at something else (such as his buddy the necromancers summons) and miss (when he recasts in somewhere else, letting the arrow intended for the summon go) that arrow will continue into town, and hit you, killing you if it does enough damage. Sorry for the loss... people are pretty damn lame sometimes.

Yes, this is a common one. Character outside must have accomplice in town, usually necro or druid, who casts golems or oak sages repeatedly outside town. Character outside stands near town while their rogue merc shoots at summon, misses summon, and travels into town, hitting you instead for full damage.

Currently is the only way you can die in town.

Back at start of 1.10, there was another way to townkill involving casting shadowmaster in town near a person, hostile, then casting mindblast repeatedly on that person - the shadow pk's the person whether they're talking to charsi, in a trade screen, etc.

Was funny to see, not funny to experience.
Luckily it doesn't work anymore.

There are many tricks like that out now though. Another thing to look out for is a portal that goes where it shouldn't or has no name on it. Never take those!!!

Also never take a tp from someone yuo don't know.... kind of like candy from strangers.

Also, a bit of timing and a meteor sorc can kill you while you're in town, watch out for them too ^^
