What do you name your characters after?

as title says just curious.
My duelers I either tend to name them similar to what they are in nature. Like deviant or abomination is a non-cookie cutter build, my pvm tend to be named Helz+w/e they are for example HelzShadow is an assn that uses fade over bos so she's like a shadow.
But basically I've named characters after songs (Moon Baby, Superbeast) after comic book/animated characters, what they are, also what mood I'm in when I create the character sometimes. But I'm just curious what other people name theirs after and why (if you want to elaborate).

And I think it was sip that gave me a great name that somehow never got into my mind, gotta make a new pvm and name it after that ;).

I loved the name of a side character in Baldurs Gate, Claire deLaine..so my zons go by that name or variations of it. My current sorc is called Hecubae after a character in the game NOX.

For my current KTA Zealot I googled for names of popes and choose Adeodatus.

Necros tend to get names that sound evil Wormtongue, Chutul..stuff like that.

Miss_Spitfire (enchantress) Fran_Zappa (lightning sorc) but also mythological names like Athenae, Titania..whatever comes to mind.

I just don't like is "descriptional" names..you know..calling your sorc "Spellcaster" ... or your sin "Trapper" ...and lazy names like "Pkozrtph"

Amazing how many uninspirational names you see on b.net.

That said...did you know you the term "Lady" gets rejected? Is that or was that ever a Softcore Title for completing a difficulty (like Kind and Queen in HC of 1.00) ?

e.g. Orbsorc - Cool_Change, etc
Diablo sets, lol
Based on characters from David Gemmell books

Duelers named after: animals: such as a_LargeRhino, a_BabyRhino, a_LargeWalrus, a_BabyWalrus or other things such as: a_Steamroller

Other various names I've tried to make funny, but most ppl just don't seem to get it:

I apparently named mine after a terrorist new organization. I just thought it was a news station and that it sounded cool. I then went with the Arabian names with "Al" in them (whatever that means in Arabian... probably "the"), with Al-Ahmar and Al-Battar (which is a blatant terrorist magazine funded by Al-Qaeda, but no one tried to PK me for this name because they don't know what it is! Awesome!) So yeah... those are my names. Oh yeah, and if I make a Zon I have to name her something to do with breasts, namely large ones, and all my cold sorcs are named like fr0zen-TitZ since I'm 10 and am suddenly fascinated with womens' chests.

I tend to name my characters after what they're about...e.g. Strychwulf for my Rabies wolf... Or Raevyng (Raving...) for my Frenzy barb. My FrostZealot was called Whytefrost. Occasionally wander to Gaelic names (like my current FC Bear, which is named Red King).

I tend to insert a y instead of an i or an ae instead of an a.... makes the names seem more 'fantasy' as well as making me run into 'this charactername is taken already' far less.

Ahh. The story of nebby's name:

All my characters are named afer wines.

nebbiolo = wine from Peidmonte area of Italy. Small dark grapes, my fave. My all-purpose sorcs (1,2, 3, etc)
Albarina = white wine from Rias Baxias area in Spain. Acidic, some earth flavors. Yummy. Strafezon.
Little Pinot = Pinot Noir (not gris or blanc, yechh.) My second fave. Also my MF sorc!
Bundschu= Winery in Sonoma (Gundlach-Bundschu). Frostadin.
Cabernet = zealot (obviously)
and so on. Of course, there's also:
Corkscrewme= 2h swordazon.

So, if you ever see little Albarina out there, be nice to her and give her a shael!

El-Cielo -my bone/mf necros name. It means "the sky" in spanish and its the name of an album by a great band Dredg.
At_TheDriveIn- The name of my deceased lvl 94 paladin and my recently deceased Pvp assasin. Atdi are another cool band.
OffDeepWoods-My magic find sorc. Its a type of bugspray heh.
Fight-Club-My new pvp paladin. Its a pretty cool movie.

Usually i name mine after famous rulers of earlier century's like napoleon, keghis khan and many others of the sort and some after fictional characters of movies like the matrix or things like OneIsTheLonlies the song by three dog night i named my enchantress sorc for fun because i usually play alone. I try never to be original because what keeps me goin with lvling chars is usually seeing that screen with their lvl and their name and if the lvl doesnt satisfy me the name has to. :lol:

I read the super-hyped da-Vinci code and thought it was pretty good. Then I picked up Angels and Demons which I thought was even better.

But now I just finished Digital Fortress and I was pretty disappointed. It still has the same riddle-me-this plot elements (which I really like), but I found the storyline very predictable.

PK, Bear-Priest, Dreaming_Bear), skill based (Toxic_Fury, an amazone), RPG-style (Rorik_TheRed, Pyranna), silly (A_Strawberypie, ImakeDeadPeople (that was a PvM armymancer) or otherwise odd (Daemon_Eater, Vampiric_Frenzy, Knighted_One) but always, always I think about how and what and spend some time thinking.

Yeah, i was even a little let down by the plotline of Angels & Demons (the first book, which actually comes before Da Vinci Code), becuase it is almost the exact SAME plot (girl with father dead needs to find conspirators, organization is very similar, substitute Illuminati for...etc, etc,)

But Rach, how do you name your chars after mathematicians, when all the best ones have oomlouts (sp?) in their names...I don't know how to make B-net use alternate characters like that.... :(

Well I always Tag my chars, "MMI_" and for now I am using greek god's names that describe what they are, or that are fitting. My favorite amazon name is MMI_Athena :drool: Where my lightning sorc is named MMI_Hera as she was married to Zues at one time or another. I also had that 13 year old spring up inside me last season when I named my mf orb sorc MMI_ColdBreasts. As for my pk and duelers, they are all currently going to be named after transformers, as last season they where all named after silverhawk characters; two of my favorite cartoons as a child. :surprise:

As for my tag, it sands for Mayer Motorsports inc. which is the shop that sponsored me when I raced go-karts professionally.

St_Anselm, a charger Paladin I briefly experimented with in the last season for PKing, named after the Christian philosopher by the same name.

PoorSoren, a hammerdin I had named after the Christian philosopher Kierkegaarde, who's always so sad. Now he's a bone Necro.

Limefrost, usually the name I give to my MF sorceresses that always die. Named after the frost planet from Descent 2. ZappaFan will know what I'm talking about. Haven't met anyone else that would recognize the name.

WhiteCrane, my DT Assassin PK from last season, named after a Tai Chi move "White Crane Spreads Its Wings."

AbstractCider, my frenzy Barbarian. Cider is my favourite word in the English language. Abstract just seemed to fit with it.

Tenor, my WC Barb when I had him.

One thing I can't understand is why the server will reject the name "Counterpoint" when you try to enter it in. I can't figure it out. Guess they figured it would be too scary a name.
