Screen Size in-game

How large an area does the screen show in-game? I want to know to better judge which AOE skills are best.

How big is a Yard?
In 800x600 the screen is about 25 yards side to side, and 18 or so top to bottom. You are in the middle of course, so you need about 13 yards radius to reach things to the sides, and 7 yards straight up or down. To get to the corners you need about 16 yards from yourself. You can experiment with this and points in Static Field if you have a Sorceress, or with a variety of Auras as a Paladin.

A handy illustration with circles about every two yards can be seen here (http://www.diabloii.net/faq/images/d2x-ufaq-yards.shtml). In the game yards aren't perfectly round, they are slightly 4 pointed, extending a bit father straight up, down, left, and right, but you can get a good idea from the chart.
