View Full Version : Sharing is Fun
I just thought I'd share this with you all...
So I logged on to BNET last night and decicded to clear some stuff off my main character by doing a MF run then muling some gear to my other account because my character was so full up with stuff. I always do some mfing before I mule because I have to make sure the channel is up for at least five minutes so it doesn't poof while I'm transferring my mules in and out.
Anyways, I do the normal run for me, Countess, Andy, Meph, Diablo, then Baal. It only took me about 10 minutes in normal. Just killing time. Well, after that I figure the game's been up long enough so I pull everything out of my stash and start throwing everything on the ground in piles.
Just when I've gotten everything situated... uniques, sets, runes, gems, noobie donations, etc. all in their own pile; I see a message at the top of the room: " so-and-so *davidlemon has joined the world. Diablo's minions... blah blah blah"
My mouth dropped open. I had forgot to put a damn password on the room!!!
Of course no one had entered in the ten minutes I was MFing... just as soon as I dropped everything on the damn ground, this guy has to join up. Some punk lvl 7 Barb.
Of course I'm trying to Pick up my stuff as soon as he enters, Going for my set items first. And he follows me and takes what he wants out of it, while I'm franticaly trying to reorganize my inventory to get stuff that'll fit.
Anyways, I got away pretty lucky since I had put my piles in away from the center of town where he didn't look. So while he was stoked that he had half a sigons set for free (I was telling him to give my stuff back). I had managed to make a couple trips to my stash and save the rest of my stuff.
When I asked for my armor back he actually had the audacity to ask me what I had to trade for it! IT WAS MINE! lol. No need to mention he took off with all my stuff he acquired. Damnit.
Anyways, I took his acct name down and spam him with profanities and threats now for fun.
Moral of the story is REMEMBER to PW your CHANNEL. :grrr:
Okay, I'm done.
LOL! That is really bad luck. Sorry to heard it. You MF in normal? What do you get out of it?
I don't normally MF in normal, but I can't mule in NM. So when I'm opening a channel to mule in (password protected of course) I do MFing in normal while I wait for the game to perm itself. I actually had a pretty decent run though! I got a kaku bow (I can't remember what the full name is, it rocks for enchantresses) a manald heal ring, and a nagel ring with 27% MF. Not too shabby for a normal run. I also got some low set items and uniques. I always pick up the Stuff that I don't necessarily use in those mf runs and give it away when I make my next game... Usually FREE4NOOBS or something along that line. I like to give back to the community. lol.

I'd advise against spamming him. He's not worth it and spamming might get you in trouble with someone. It's best just to let everyone you know who this guy is and what he likes to do. Believe me, it'll be nigh on impossible for him to do this again.

Good point, but I don't know how to network information like that; I'm still pretty new. How would I let everyone know? Perhaps we should put up a scammer thread, sticky it and post everyone's acct name that has run a scam.
This wasn't necessarily a scam, more of a strike of good luck for him, I think most people would have probably done the same thinng in his shoes. My primary purpose for spamming him is to have him think twice about jacking other people's stuff. I don't say anything to him that would necessarily get me in trouble. Just make him paranoid by letting him think I'm out there scouring normal games hunting him. lol. I'm really not, I have better stuff to do. But everytime he logs on I'm going to remind him...
Lol too bad. Do what I did and buy yourself a second copy of the game. With 2 cd-keys you can mule safely to your heart's content.
However you can't really blame the guy too much for taking the stuff. The opportunity was there for him. Spamming him does no good.

If I buy a second copy of the game, do I have to install that version too and have multiple instances of diablo running at one time? How does all that work, please explain. I'm thinking of buying another copy actually for my neighbor since he wants to play to. But if I was to have another for myself, how you I do that...?
I have two computers (side by side) running 1 copy of D2X each, and I just switch between the two. It works like a charm. I understand you can run 2 copies of D2X on one computer, but I don't know how, although it shouldn't be too difficult. Search the forums it's probably in here somewhere.

This is once again a glaring example of the widespread lack of courtesy that makes BNet an untrust worthy place. If I see someone dropping items or clearing their stash or something and I see an item that I either would like to have or just take a look at, you do what you'd probably do in real life: ASK FIRST!!! A simple "Mind if I take a look?" or "May I have this/these?" goes a long way.
Heck if he had asked, maybe you could have said "Sure just help me mule this stuff and it's yours." With the exception of the excellent community in these forums (great job y'all) most people in Bnet are greedy SoBs with no consideration.

Two computers... I know I could run off one, you just need a separate video card and another monitor. Sounds like a lot of crap to go through though. Also, If you used two computers, you would need a hub so they can both be online. Damnit, that's way too much work. Besides, you'd need a lot of RAM to run 2 diablo's at the same time. It would slow down all kinds of stuff, not to mention the bandwitdth you'd lose from them both being online... That was a pretty lame suggestion man; what if I had taken your advice, bought a new copy... then you would have told me. "Oh yeah, I forgot, you need another computer too." :cheesy:

I MF in normal. You get low end uniques and sets mostly. Low runes and the like. Occasionally you get some ok stuff. I also do normal cows. Depends on what you want really. It's really useful for starting characters. I was amazed at the decent stuff I grabbed on the way up just by socketing a helm with two chippie topaz. (Biggin's Bonnet or Venom Ward may not seem like much...unless you're level 5 with nothing else :) )
Ive gotten all my gulls from normal. 3 sets of sigons..blerg..lots of stuff really. I think its more usefull if you're doing the Grail quest or just collecting in general. I have noticed there is a point where you just start to see the same things over and over though.

Mmm no, D2 takes very little BW, and after that response I certainly won't be offering any more help to ungrateful nubs like yourself. Excuse me for trying to help

Not trying to be ungrateful, but I'm definately trying to imply that in the future when offering advice; you should consider applying more detail. It you make the information you're providing be a little more viable and useable.
I find it hard to believe that you would neglect to mention that you use an extra computer to run a separte copy of D2. Instead you said just to buy another copy for a cd-key like that solves the issue. It might benefit people a little more when you offer advice to be more "detail oriented".

I've been running two copies of D2 for 1.5 years or so now, on one computer, with virtually no problems.
You just have to find a modified version of the "D2gfx.dll" file that you already have in your D2 folder. You just have to change the name of the folder your current installation is in, install the second copy with the second set of cd-keys, patch both to whatever version you want them to run at, and then replace the dll file I mentioned above with the modified one that you have to find online.
Then, you would just need to make two shortcuts; one leading to the first installation's Diablo2.exe, and the other leading to the second installation's Game.exe file.
You can add "-w" after what it says in the 'target' box on the properties of each shortcut, to run the games in window mode for easy switching between windows. Example:
Target: "D:\Games\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w
Let me know if you need any more help.

Now THAT's what I call helpful advice. Thank you much.

Where would be a good resource to find that DLL file, I know how to do everything else.

I just sent the file I use via email, to the last person that asked me this, so I can always do the same for you. Otherwise, just search for the file's name on google.com.
I know that there are at least two versions of this file; one that works for everything, and one that supposedly only works for singleplayer. The file that I use is 83.1KB in size (I use it for bnet).

I would not take other people's staff this way. That would put me in the same lvl as a duper. I would not even take an enigma, shako, or soj if I had the chance.
