Greetings from the stat forum runeword search team. Many posters who have stopped by our main thread have admitted to being a bit daunted by its 2,500+ post length. We've decided to post a short weekly update every Monday (not the case for a little while) to summarize our efforts and entice people to join the cause without having to wade through all 100+ pages. I will post the basic info every week along with an update on our progress during the previous week.

***Please do not post in this thread. Please post in the main thread linked below.

Basic Information and Links

We have not found any of the new runewords yet, although we have eliminated several thousand possibilities.

The new runewords are 1.10 expansion ladder only. The new runewords (and therefore tests for them) will not work in non-ladder, open realms, single player, classic, or 1.09.

runeword hints:

Main Theories

Blanket 2-socket testing
Our blanket tests have slowed for the most part but due to the time of year and games released this was expected. Our wand tests are almost at the Mal*Mal half way point.

Focused 3-socket testing
Some of us continue this testing, for the most part, those that cannot afford the 2os tests anymore. If anyone has tested or wishes to test please post in the main thread.

Alternate 1.07 recipes
This area hasn't been touched really since Wathombe finished the original list. If anyone wants to take over on this, there is a section in the excel spreadsheet.

Discarded Theories

Inactive 1.07 runewords
As some of you may be aware, there exists a list of inactive runewords (and recipes therefor) culled from the runes.txt file in the .mpq for version 1.07. Three of the four new runeword recipes came from the last ladder season came from this list, so we had thought that some or all of the 23 new runeword recipes for this ladder season would come from this list. We have now tested all 121 recipes on this list, and all tests failed. Note that all of the new runeword names (i.e., Vengeance, Red, Sting, et cetera) will necessarily come from this list, but the recipes will certainly be different.

Kenny-Z clues
Kenny-Z, one of the mods on the b.net forums, posted a sequence of twelve trivia questions over the course of a few weeks in late July and early August. As these questions seemed to have no real purpose, many players (us included) guessed that these might be hints to the new runewords. In response, we had theorized many possible runeword recipes based on acronyms, anagrams, et cetera. A few of these were tested, but not many, owing to the vague nature of the clues. Kenny-Z finally admitted, on 31 Aug, that his trivia questions were “just for fun,” so we have discarded this theory, as well.

How you can get involved
--Head over to the main thread, which is where we discuss theories, report testing, and post updates. Read the most recent page or two instead of all 90+. If you have any ideas, throw them out; all the posters are very open and friendly, and all suggestions are encouraged and discussed in great detail.

--If you have extras of some of the low runes clogging up your stash, download the spreadsheets, find a permutation that hasn't been tested, and try it. Or, if you don’t feel comfortable testing yourself, This next list is our official donation receivers, though others on the spreasheet can also take them:

--Head over to the player matchup thread and find some players on your realm whom you can help with rune runs, forge runs, levelling, questing, or whatever.

--Whisper one of the players on the cow rosters below, as there’s pretty much always a cow run (or some sort of run) going on these days.

News, 25th of October through November 11th.

--Wathombe has been absent and many people have taken over the many responsibilities he was in charge of. I hope to see him back in action soon, and I hope his health is in order.

--WoW has a release date (nov.23rd) with this new action and the fact that the open beta is in progress I don't see the words being released until this date or later. We can only hope.

--Less people are currently active because of the season and released games...I hope this will change soon and I think it will. We will be in a slump until the end of this month I think.

--More people have shown interest in classic rushing, please visit the main thread to discuss how to move from our current position.

--2os testing has slowed but we are presently sitting at around 21% completion, once we catch-up on hammers and other less tested item types this number should grow rather quickly.

Player matchup
--As mentioned above, group cow runs (as well as pit and Countess runs) have started in earnest. I will keep up-to-date run rosters here on the Weekly Update thread, posted each Monday, and occasionally repost on the main thread. The new runewords are 1.10 expansion ladder only.

How official is the information we have to believe this?
Unless they significantly changed the structure of the internal files, there is no way to make a runeword ladder only. Realm-only yes, but not necessarily ladder. The secret new words they added before the ladder reset were available to both ladder and non.

They may well have made the required changes. Just not sure why they would.

It is believed as so because they anounce it as such:

Season 2 Begins
Season 2 begins with a new race to the top of the Ladder! Blizzard hits you with more goodness as we release 23 new Ladder-Only Runewords for the 1.10 patch! We'll continue to track the top players throughout the Season and post the final rankings at the end on Battle.net. Be sure to check back here throughout Season 2 for further updates!

OK, yeah, I'd seen that. I don't consider the AS web pages to be reliable at the best of times. They get the distinction between ladder/realm/(everything but non-ladder) wrong continually.
Anything else slightly more official? Was hoping maybe a Bliz employee on the Bnet forums...

I'm not suggesting that testing be expanded to non-ladder, just in case. You guys seem to have plenty to do just on ladder, so you might as well keep testing there on the outside chance they did make the substantial code changes.

I don't see this one being false, it was also posted on Battle.net's main news page. It also wouldn't make sense to release runewords for a ladder season....when everyone can access them. Though, if they are also non-ladder.......well, they are :P
