I know the leeching has been nerfed in 1.10, but if you stacked up a LOT of life leech (maybe test with assasin cobra strike?) could you leech anything back? is it a penalty on the leech or is it completely taken out when dueling?
how big is this penalty?
I'd imagine if there was enough leech you could get something back...
sort of a noob question but I don't have a melee char so :/
Don't bother. Leech is nerfed to the point of it being worthless. If you had 100000000000000 life leech you might get 1 life per hit.
It does work well on summons though.
You are a new dthseeker or what? Coulda sworn you had a v/t, which is melee enough.

Traditional MA builds are just no longer viable. They've been nerfed so much that mercs can tank them.

how big is this penalty?
there was a test done at the results showed something like a 1/8th drop in your %.
so 80% leech is like 10% in pvp
also bc this is based on the actual dmg u did to the oppoent the 17% pvp penalty further kills this way beyond anything expeirence in .09
1000 dmg with 24% leech is about equal to
170 dmg with 3% wich will give you 5 life
This counting the 1/4 leech in hell as well or no?

rauth v/t uses smite/foh... and why would I bother looking up leeching when I know smite doesn't leech at all?
let me rephrase:
I don't have any melee chars that would actually use the leech or would benifit from it
i actually just wanted the numbers, thanks jerkazoid

it was does in normal
i suspect the penalty is the same regardless of difficulties.
regardless,,,,even if its not further lowerd... 5 life from 24% leech and 1000 dmg makes it entirly worthless, doncha'think?
Then why does lifetap work for smiters dth? Its physical damage and its melee. I know I was leeching Something when I leveled your v/t, and it wasn't even life tap most of the time. Go test for yourself and I'm pretty damn sure leech works with it.
Good point jerkazoid, I was just curious. I'll check next time with a friend of mine just to know :)

rauth lol... seriously i would check the v/t guide or a smiting guide anywhere. or take a stop to the paladin forums.
It's because its %chance to cast on strike.
elemental damage, leech, deadly strike does NOT work with smite.
I'm guessing you don't play with paladins much :uhhuh:
rauth is joob when it comes to anything other than windies :)
rauth life tap works differently from leech :O smite works w/ life tap but not leech
edit:
got this from arreat summit:
"Effect: Attacking a cursed soul gives you health.
When Cursed are damaged, the attacker gets healed 50% of attack damage."
so its not nesessarily leech... its more like healing. or rejuvs. which ever sounds better. :)

Life tap does work with smite. I think rauth was trying to say that you can leech life with life tap.

no... read carefully at what rauth says
and like dkay said lifet tap is defined diff

In 1.09 leech was calculated before the PvP penalty, now that has changed.
PvP penalty: 0.17
50% Dr: 0.5
effective life leech: 0.085 or 8.5%.
In NM your leech percentage is halved (integer math, so 3% ll is 1% effective), and in hell cut to 1/3rd. Apply cuts when dueling in that difficulty lvl. :)
Life tap returns 50% of the dmg dealt to the cursed enemy you've just hit. Your dmg does go through the PvP penalty and dr% reduction, so Life Tap gives back 4.25% of the dmg shown in the LCS as life.
Burn your cd and give me your cdkey!
Weird. Lifetap always seems to completely heal a smiter when they get it off on my druid(50dr). This would be 1-1.5k life in one shot a lot of the times. I doubt they are doing more than 6k which would be 255 life back according to 4.25%. Maybe I'm just imagining things again, but I know I see them heal back from the brink of death tons of times.

A decent damage for smiters is 3k.
Dueling against smiters and playing one it almost seems like there's a health display bug, because when you duel them and they get tap on you it shows them completely rejuving their health, or getting large chuncks of life returned per hit.
Playing the smiter and getting tap on the enemy, it just looks like extremely fast life regeneration, or drinking 5% rejuv potions every successful hit.
