1) Most people have characters with Magic Finding equipment to gather gear for other characters to use

2) a mule is another character that holds stuff that you will use to trade or give to other characters when they're high enough to use them

3) Rushing is getting another high level player to kill the bosses for you so that you can get to Nightmare or Hell quicker.

4) USEast is a domain on battle.net (along with uswest, europe and asia) Ladder is a type of character that gets tracked by battle.net. The #1 person on the ladder is the person who got to level 99 the fastest.

5) don't buy stuff at online stores. It's not worth it. You'll tire of the game quicker.

what he said. and the way most people get better equipment is runs - repeatedly killing the highest level boss you can easily kill (with magic find items equipped if you have them). if you're strong enough to kill mephisto in nightmare without dying a lot, i'd do that. or else you might try bael in normal. either way, you'll also build up a lot of experience and level up quickly so you can move on to stronger bosses and better drops.

I'm on East Ladder, and I have some stuff I can give you that's probably better than what you have to help you out a bit, unless you want to stick with using what you find only. [Nothing wrong with that]

If you're interested, leave your account name.

And no, never buy anything from those online stores. Ever.

And if you ever get the question in your head that starts with "But what if..." or something similar... still no.

THINGS YOU SHOULD NEVER EVER DO:

NEVER Tell your password to ANYONE (including ur mom, brother, dog, friend, God...well maybe yea, but only through PRAYER)
NEVER use a third party downloaded program to enhance d2 (it is siply cheating, and some might even hack your account.)
NEVER buy stuff form the advertisements (they all just total.....bs)

ALWAYS:
BE CAREFUL and use common sense

If I were you, I would start collecting gems, and trasmuting them to perfect ones! (cube recipe is: 3 gems of same level and type = 1 higher level gem of the same type)

Good luck!
Andy

thanks fellas...i hope i haven't ruined my sorc's chances of becoming an awesome character by making bad decisions on the skill tree...i've learned alot browsing this forum and the diabloii site...

i think my account name is vanthar...but my character's name is jazeir...like i said my playing time is very limited right now, but i'm usually on in the afternoons and evenings on tuesdays and thursday's...soooo i'll definitely be on at like 2:30 est today if anyone want's to play...just mention you're from the forum and hopefully i'll meet some cool people and awesome guys to play online with!

thanks for all the help...i'll do my best to shut-up that voice in my head that keeps tempting me to buy stuff online...i'll admit that i was a hack-aholic in diablo 1 online, but i refuse to do that in this game...it's too fun to ruin like that...!!!

any other advice would be greatly appreciated...i don't wanna sound like those guys who beg for free stuff, but most of your guys' lesser stuff that you don't use anymore is probably better than what i have on my back right now...lol

anyways...hopefully i'll see some of you in the game

later,
mike

Never trade your staff for high lvl runes! Ever! Almost 99% of those runes are dupes and will puff sooner or later.

About your char... You would always make some mistakes with the first one (or couple of ones) Dont worry. Use it to MF in mn and then start some other "good" char to MF in hell or duel. Remember, the first char is just for fun.

For the staff thing... I am still MFing so i do not have much to give, but I can always do some MF runs and give some of the staff I do not use.

Account: Death-Master

Currently Pit running with my windy.

Welcome!

You wouldn't be the first or the last to learn as you go along by 'ruining' a character. Fortunately you can still use it for a mule, or if you get tired of it you can delete it and recreate it altogether. I remember when I started how long it would take me to level a character, so I'd never want to rebuild. Now I've figured out how to rush all my chars and level to like 20 or so in the first night and 50-60 in the second night (playing a couple hours each night). Not to fret-- this site is gold and has tons of goodie and good people to help you out.

I'f you're USEast NL msg me and I'll see what kinda freebies I can give you.

You really shouldn't go the 'rushing' route...

Spend a bit of time in public games - which can be great fun - and you'll undoubtedly see people who spam 'I need Tal's stuff' or 'I need a Pally shield". These are peoople who have been rushed - so they are level 43 and they're in Hell difficulty, begging others for free gear because a Carver will kick their butt within sight of the Rogue's Camp.

"Can you help me with Hell Ancients PLZ" is another common theme - the toughest assignment in the game & they don't even try to do it on their own.

I often wonder about the psyche of someone who doesn't think twice about begging STRANGERS for help or items IN THE CONTEXT OF PLAYING A GAME!. I wonder just what it is they are trying to accomplish? Entertainment? Where does the begging come in?

To solve your problem at hand - how to obtain gear to help you advance:

The easiest and fastest way would be to save up your gems that you find and cube them into Perfect Gems, then trade pgems for items. You can easily obtain a Visceratuant shield and Skin of the Vipermagi armor with pgems; socket the shield with a PDiamond and you'll have a bonus of 2 to all skills (one from the armor and one from the shield and +39 to +54 to all resists (+19 from the PDiamond in the shield and +20-35 fron the armor). Realistically, look for a Viper at about +28 to resists and you should find one cheap (they're a bit more expensive for the ones +33 and up).

The best thing you can do is to 1) familiarize yourself with the items availible, rreading the items database on this site; and 2) the trade values, posted both on the trade forums and at the top of the Trade Values forum. With a few exceptions, the items not on the list trade for pgems - and you can build a nice character with the items you find in the game + the items you get for trading the runes you find + the items you get for trading pgems. I've got a level 88 sorc - and oddball build - that completed Hell 'on schedule' in the aforementioned fashion. She was my first Battlenet character, and she has provided pgems, runes, and items for my other 6 various characters - and I am not a particularly good trader (I get fleeced all the time :uhhuh: )

With no begging.
