Help with Defense for Sorc please

I have a clvll 59 fire sorc that currently has base energy and only 5 points into dexterity. My mana pool is only 335 but its enough and I can just drink potions to refill the bubble. I have the unique warpspear gothic staff on switch which gives me +8 to to telekenisis, teleport and energy shield. My life is about 700 and my riesists are ok as I am only in NM. I find that I take a lot of damage quickly as I only have a 5% chance to block and was wondering what I could do to increase my chance to block. I have been debating shoveling points into dexterity but decided to post the question here 1st before being so rash.

Gear: - Just using what I have found or can make
Circlet - Lore
ViperMagi - 32% resist all - 24% mf
Demonhide Gloves - 22% mf
Rare Greaves - 20% mf
Sigons Shield - (looking for a 2 socket grim shield to make Splendor)
Rare Amulet - 18% mf
Magic Ring - 14% resist all +14 energy
Rare Ring - +85 to mana

Okay..there is a discussion of vit against block, and it will start up here again.

However my take on this is: Get max block if you have a shield with high block anyhow (Whistans, Mosers, Sigon, Rhyme--->Heater is best)

Runes can be inserted to raise chance to block, and items like Tals belt will also help.

You can also:
Upgrade Viper (if you play Ladder IIRC)
Hire a defiance merc

Sigs Shield sucks, so does Splendor!

Get a Mosers o rViscreataunt or the best blocker Whitstans.
Try and get you a Wizzy

The combo of Wizzy/Whit/Viper alone will get you maxed in NM and like in the 50's priz in Hell.

Then try and get Tals belt 20 dex
Waterwalks 15 dex wiht life also
PCrown maybe

These things can be traded for with PGems......

Charms, you need charms.....save your late NM charms and collect gems and cube them, fill your inventory wiht lifer and some mana charms. When people toss charms look at them, when in public look at what people are seellign you would be suprised what people sell. Norm and NM Cows can produce many gems and charms. Flayer Jungle in NM is a good place fro lots of drops and the Grands have the best chance to roll skillers.

Go with Whistans. Best blocking in da hood....

You can also craft your self a nice Safty Amulett. It has + (1-10)% Increased Chance Of Blocking.

Then pump dex or load up with +dex items.

I have Whinstans & Gerkes Pavise (just found it) I can make rhyme ..... but your saying to pump dex .... so how much dex should I have .... hard points here without items?

This of course depends....

Even after 4 years playing I just hover my pointer over the "defence" area of my character screen, then add points until I get the block I desire.

Since Whistans has like 84% block, my lv 72 sorc displayed 75% block all the time with 140 dex. When I turned 73 I equiped SS (67% block) and my block dropped to 58%...and I had to add a good amount.

There is a formula, but to use that just takes to long for me :innocent:

Bone/Grim Shields with Rhyme, Sanctuary, or Deflecting suffix have 60% block
Sigon's Tower + Eld and Moser's Blessed Circle + 2 Eld's both have 71% block
Gerke's Sanctuary and Stormshield with an Eld rune both have 74% block

I am wondering - his mana seems really low to be relying on e-shield as well. I have like 500-600 mana on my little sorc (54) and it goes pretty quick - she wears a mosers but my block is still really low. Need some dex I know! She is max res in nm and close in hell though so it helps.
