View Full Version : Help with Preformance?
Anyone know of any preformance enhancements? The only one ive found is Diablo2 accellerated and it doesnt accomplish what i need. I have a pretty slow computer (4oomhz) and a geforce2 mx(yes i know mx=no) but i used to play just fine on this same computer with my old graphic card(voodoo2). I know D2 was made to utilize the voodoo line of card much better than any other but since the game has been out for so long i know there has to be some kind of way to make it run better. Im getting around 11-15 fps max during fighting/running. It gets unplayable if a sorc or minion necro comes along. Anyone have any tips? PLEEEEASE
I posted this in the community forum as well but since this is the forum i visit most i figured id try here too. :uhhuh:
Run the graphic test of Diablo in your start menue. Switch to 2 D mode. Start game and go to options.
Set shadows to off and whatever graphic detail there is to low.
Should run much better now
ty for the reply but ive trie dthat.. i get 11-15 fps with the lowest settings.. and thats after tweking with d2 accellerated. It just pisses me off that i was doing better with my old pos voodoo2.
I havent played d2 much since the begining of last reset but i kinda wana get back to it... thing is it gets unplayable with lots of plyers on screen.. and that pretty much where the fun is for me. I lost my paladin(was planing on a shocktrooper for getting gear) cus during a diablo run with 8 players it droped to about 3-5 fps and as a seal was beign cracked and skills were being spamed i walked into a pack of uniques... i had the reflex to move away but the slow fps wouldnt let my mouse move/register the click so i died. I need to fix this before i try playing again.

Hmm, I think there are certain programs which control certain game effects that are know to cause framrates to crash. I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about <cough> MH <cough>.
Of course you could uprgade that video card for about $50...

have you scanned your drive for spyware recently?
I am not sure the problem is the video card, especially if you run the game in 2 D. When it came out, I ran it on a P3 466 Mhz, 256 MHz RAM and a GeForce 2 MX card (a lot of the time even in 3D mode) and I didn't have any real speed issues then.
Then again...that was mostly SP, a few open b.net games with 1 other guy..but on a dial-up connection (would blame that more for any lag than my system).
Viagra will improve your perfromance.
As for your vid card, have you dl'ed the latest drivers?

I like the spyware suggestion. Heres why; low FPS, more often than not, is caused by your memory over your vid card or CPU. Look at the top left stat (I can't remember which exactly it is, it will be like 405/512 for example, which means 405 of 512 megs of ram being used for the game) and see how much is being used. If it is low, it very well could be spyware. Spyware will tie up not only your CPU speed but also your memory.
I remember once playing D2 and thinking it was running slow. I closed it and hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and looked at the CPU usage; it was at 97%. And it was all being used by this one suspicious file. I ran the adware cleaner and that file was spyware that was actively working and tieing up my CPU. After I cleaned it, I was up and running back to normal.
So, to make a long story short (too late!), get the Adware cleaner; its free. There is one more that gets what the adware misses, but ATM the name has slipped me. Good luck.

You guys are probably correct, D2 isn't very GPU intensive.
Here are some free adware/malware/spyware/virus programs everyone should be using.

http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/

Update and run them once a week and you should be all set.
PS Isn't the "/framerate" command the one that will give the more detailed memory usage stats?

There are no official drivers for Windows XP also, and when I stopped using it the 3rd party driveers would crash the machine all the time.
My advise, if you really like Diablo, is to get some of 3dfx cards somehow. I recommend the Voodoo 5 5500. The game should run smooth with it, and you could select the last option on the video test, that is, 3dfx glide.
Finally, some RAM is important for the game. The minimum requirements (32 MB) may mean too much HD access.
*bought the company, fired emplyees, denied support to the old company's customers.
