Max Socket Quest!?

I hear people talking about a max socket quest, and saying larzuk will put 4 sockets in armor...HOW!?

Normal (white) armours will get 4 sockets from Larzuk quest if the ilvl of the item is high enough. That is if the armor of that type can get 4 sockets in the first place, see here (http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/normal/armor.shtml).

Only the really good armors (usually exceptional and elite) can get 4 sockets in them (Sacred Armor = elite; this is my typical choice). Don't try it with ancient armor (the normal equivalent of Sacred Armor) as you can't get more than three sockets (and you may get as few as one).

The quest itself entails fighting your way towards the Frozen Highlands and slaying Shenk the Overseer. Return to Larzuk and he'll socket any item that can take sockets (magic, rare, uniques, and set items can't get more than one...items with sockets in them won't be resocketed...jewelry, gloves, belts, and boots won't take sockets...normal items can get anywhere from 1 to 6 sockets, depending on item type).

I usually use the socket quest for socketing my top uniques. If I want sockets in an armor I go do cow games. Ok, it can take you a long time before finding the prefect armor/helmet/weapon/shield, but I like 1 socket in a top unique even more :) (and come on! what's a Shako without a PTopaz ;))

Ancient Armor can get four sockets as well.

in fact, any item found after act 2 nm can and will get the maximum amount of sockets every single time you try and socket them.
