anyone know if the number of players affects the rune droped at hellforge? i know it affects the number of gems droped, but what about the rune? im not 100% sure but i dont think it does, ive gotten many a gul/ist with just 2 players.

No matter how much player in the game, you'll always get one rune. Even if there are 8 players, and none of them have done the hellforge before, you'll only get one random rune.

yea...but im asking if it increases your chance of getting a higher rune

Uhm, I said random. As in, it picks one rune out of the options at random. Nothing has any effect on the rune drop, it always chooses a rune that can drop in that difficulty totally random. I think the keyword here is "random" ;)

Yes, it's all random... players have no impact on the value or the number of runes dropped. However the highes runes you can get from the hellforge (in hell) is Gul and Ist.

And the answer is no. :)
Each rune has a flat 1 in 11 chance to drop (as per difficulty). MF % doesn't affect this, the number of players doesn't affect this - nothing does.
Example: In hell, the possible rune drops are Hel - Gul. Each of those runes has the same odds of dropping. You could get an Ist rune - or just as easily get a Lum ... or worse. As Herald of Doom said, it's random.
And since the forge only drops one rune (no matter what), it's always best to complete the quest in a solo game.

Alright--- you mentioned something that I think merits some clarification (for me of course :) ) Is it a 1-11 chance for drops in hell at the forge? So it's from hel or io up to cham? I haven't done enough hell forges to know whether you can get an eld rune from helforge, although when running hell countess you can get anything in hell up to whatever the highest rune she can drop (cham?)

Ah, you're gonna force me into making a mile-long post that nobody is going to read. CURSE YOU!
First, here are the hellforge rune drops as per difficulty:
Normal: El - Amn.
Nightmare: Sol - Um.
Hell: Hel - Gul.
There are 11 runes on each of those lists - they all have an equal chance of dropping from the forge, hence the 1 in 11 figure.
In Hell difficulty, the lowest rune you can get off the forge is Hel; you won't get an Eld or a Tir there (thankfully). The Hell Hellforge, statistically speaking is wonderful for picking up those nice trading runes.
I've probably done a couple hundred forge runs, all told - and though your odds of getting, say an Ist rune, may only be 1 in 11 - you have a good overall chance to get a nice trading rune (Lem+) regardless. You will walk away with plenty of Hels though.
Not to promote weird superstitious practices or anything, but I've been known to sacrifice Digglers to the D2 Gods in the hopes of getting an Um or Ist. Those are my two favorite tradable currencies.

The Countess works differently from the Hellforge. Although she has a higher chance of dropping runes (compared to other creatures), she can also drop from a variety of TCs - she can also drop jack and crap. You can run her in Hell for weeks and come away with nothing to show for it except for a pile of low runes (not a great way to cube up to Ist - I'm one of those freaks crazy enough to try it and believe me, it's not worth it).
As far as what runes she can drop, I am not 100% sure. According to some notes I took from another thread somewhere ...
Normal: El - Ral.
Nightmare: El - Io*/Ko.
Hell: El - Ist*/Lo.
*Anything above is much rarer. I would ask around and double check those Countess drop figures though.
Hope this all makes sense to you. :fish:

Makes perfect sense-- and I read it all :p
I run countess so as not to get through hell games too quick, and she has dropped a lem for me once... Maybe just around a hundred runs...

How do you sacrifice to the gods?!? I want to do that too; and have been thinking of a "way", but haven't come up with one... maybe make a sacrifice game and leave the sacrifice on the ground and let the game expire...? But then how would the gods know that you want this or that from them...? I have givin it a lot of thought allready indeed
So, help me out here please :P

By dropping it at Tyreal's feet (he's an archangel after all) and declaring, "As I sacrifice this Mighty Diggler to you, Great Tyreal, so may the Hellforge sacrifice its Mighty Ists ... and Ums (but epecially Ists. Lots of Ists ... I'm greedy) .
If I get a nice rune, I pick the Diggler back up and sell it to one of the two A4 merchants to complete the Holy Digglerish Blood Ritual. If I get a bad rune, I flip Tyreal the bird and take my precious Diggler back. :teeth:
I can't believe anybody wants to know this stuff.

Anything for good runes... I'm very greedy too *sniffs and detects the scent of ists in the distance, then runs off while hurling a diggler at Tyrael*
