I want to remake my ww'er but with a polearm or spear this time instead of ik set. Here are the parameter's and if ya'll can offer advice after it would be much appreciated.

I never duel, so this will not be used for that EVER.

I have no interest in using uber runewords, so none of those.

I usually play a char to level 80-ish and then when they are not being mules I will occasionally dust them off to mf a little.

I do understand the concept of longer weapons being better (spear class seems best for that) and also ias (again spears seem to have better base) but I don't get all the break points so let's keep it basic.

I currently only have a reaper's toll and a bonehew, no other weapons from either class but I can probably find/trade for a couple at some point.

With all that in mind, would I be better off going for spear class or polearm class weapons and mastery?

mmm as for weapon choise maybe this can help u :
- tomb reaver (needs 9 extra ias for 4fpa ww) so a 1sock would be enough & pretty cheap i think
- reapers toll (6fpa ww when shael'd) but no need for high ar & has good ll/deadly strike
- stormspire (4fpa ww when shael'd) nice look, ok dmg & xtra lit res
- bonehew (needs 29 extra ias for 4fpa ww) best dmg without ed sockets but no other useful stats except for prevent monster heal

posted that a while back & from all those imo tomb reaver is the best choise
& from the weapons u have, hmmm, i think the reapers

ps : i didnt add any of the unique spears cause they simply have too high dex req imo

ps 2 : eth upped hone sundan would be even better i think :D
200% eth upgraded would get 101-736 & hits 4fpa ww with 3 shaels

mmmmm on 2nd thought, a normal tombreaver with 1-3 sockets would be cheaper & would give better stats (res on tomb is really useful)

Thank you kindly sir for the mass of information. I agree just from reading about the weaps that polearm is best but spears just look cooler when I am sticking the little guys in act 1 right now as opposed to slow swings. I also thought spears were faster base, but I guess with adding ias gloves/jewels, whatever it doesn't matter right?

What about the range 3/4/5 does it really matter that much?

And lastly if anyone reading this has any polearm weaps to trade or donate (mostly trade as I hate mooching) please let me know. I will also post on the trade forums but I figure some of you barbs must have a few things sitting around on mules too.

ias gloves/jewels in armory wont help when using ww :)

& the only difference between spears/polearms is str/dex req iirc
polearms have higher str req
spears have higher dex req

& since u dont really need dex i'd say polearms are the best choise

& as for range, well, just dont use anything below 4 as 2handed weapon because thats 1 of the advantages over 1h weapons, higher range (other is higher dmg :p)

imho that limits choises to 3 weapons :
tomb reaver (range 4)
stormspire (range 5)
eth up'd hone sundan (range 5)

ariocs is not necessarily a bad choice either.

there was a similar thread about this here (http://www.rpgforums.net/showthread.php?t=266575) but i dont know if it will help you much.

my advice: go with tomb reaver, you'll need the resists.

again thanks for the tips guys but just to shake things up a little suppose I didn't after all go with a big pointy stick.

Minus the death cleaver, stormlash, azure and whatever the other top choices are, would I STILL be better going with two weapons (I know what Halciet will say already) or if I went with one weapon and a shield what would the best choices be.

To recap:

Non leet 1 hand WW swords/maces/axes
Non leet 2 hand or 2 x 1 hand WW swords/maces/axes

I know you guys get 500 of these same questions a day, but any answers would be helpful.

it's totally a personal preference thing. If you find that playing with a shield is overly easy, then you probably have a playing style that allows you to fight with two weapons or a 2-handed weapon. Playing without a shield, you have to be more careful. I don't fall into that category (except with frenzy).

If you decide to dual wield or use a 2-hander, it doesn't make a ton of difference which you choose. Dual wielding gets more hits, while a 2-hander gets more dmg per hit.
