I just started up playing D2 again recently (stopped because I never had time to play and my lvl 72 hc barb was deleted :cheesy: )

Anyway, I see lots of new lingo... and I'm lost! I browsed the forums forever, but I never really got the answers...

What is tppk or whatever?

What does that chicken thing mean?

Are they hacks?

Also, is there anything I should look out for when playing online that I may not know about?

I'm only a lvl 22 hc barb now, but I'm working on it!

TPPK allows people to use a skill, cast a portal, return to town, and hostile you very quickly by use of a script. Bone necros are the most common but other classes use it also.

Chicken hack lets people leave game automatically when their health reaches a certain level basically turning hardcore into softcore. Chicken can also be used to leave on hostile which is understandable given Blizzard ineptitude at fixing the other hacks.

If you play in public games you will have numerous PK attempts. Look out for people who don't seem to belong (and any bone necro) and be careful doing Baal runs, Duriel, etc since they like to strike when your attention is diverted. Also try leveling away from group if possible or find a safe group to play with.

Good luck and welcome back. Look me up online if you need anything.

tppk means town portal player killer
Can be done manually, but has been streamlined by the hackmasters out there. Worst thing about it is that the damage that hits you was cast before they were hostile and so does real damage.
So, if a necro's bone spirit hits you, you die.
Also, used by zons with guided arrows, multishot (to kill low lvl chars), sorcs with fireball, icebolt, etc, druids with tornado, to name a few nasties.

Chicken is a hack made even more popular by the introduction of tppk.
The worst cases of it are seen in dueling games.

Any game called something like - Sewers 03 - will attract at least 1 pker. Use this to your advantage when making pkkers.

I actually loaded up D2 for the first time in months and played on USEast for a change for a few hours tonight. I was hostiled about 14 times getting a necro from 0 to 25.
Main offenders were: lvl 9 barb, lvl 12 pally in sewer games, lvl 55 multishot zon in act 2 games, and random other chars trying to send me trapped portals.

Yea i got tppked last night in a public baal game in nighmare. My own fault really. Not paying attention to the necro by the door. Lvl 72 bliz sorc bites the dust. Last thing i saw was 4 bone spirits comming tword me and a tp thrown up, then deeds.
I can't help but think if i had been moving around a little more and been more aware i would have been able to tele away from then guy and tp to town.
Or perhaps he might have targeted someone else.

Just think of it as the .10 version of the guided arrow trigger hack of .09 that we all got to know and love.

So I'm guessing what happens is he casts bone spirit multiple times while friendly, then TPs to town and hostiles, and then the bone spirit that's still floating around targets you?

Like the old hydra trick before blizzard made is so hydra would dissappear when you went to town? Am I correct? I'm wondering, because I've been thinking about going to HC from SC. Also, is a bone necro the only class that still has a skill where you can do this?

It's a good idea to read above before asking questions :uhhuh:

I have seen that it is also a good idea to keep at least 1 other player between yourself and necros/bowazons or stand around a pillar from them.

Welcome to HC though!!!

The latest popular tppk attempts are happening a lot now in enchant games by zons.

Everyone gets enchanted, lvl 9 zon tppk's everyone.

I think they still get the pvp penalty when tppking, I've tanked a wf zon tppk before and there is no way I would have lived if there had been no penalty.
