View Full Version : Using socket quest on Kurast Shield
I'm curious - if I were to use the socket quest on a 0 socket Kurast Shield, what's the most no. of sockets I can get? I figure it's also random so if anyone can shed some light on the no. of sockets which may appear, that would be useful.
Also, is it worth the socket quest. I'm not sure what I'd do with a multi-socket Kurast shield but I'm just tempted to find out. Any help is appreciated. TIA! :)
You can see here how many sockets all items get when using socket q.

I think the answer is 4.
you will always get the max possible sockets in an item, unless of course it's rare, unique, set, magic etc.
Magic and rares get a random number I believe, like 1 or 2... others only get 1
and why use the socket quest unless you're sure you will use it? Why not wait to see if you would have use for it before you do it... That way you don't later find a nice eth warpike and realize that you're out of socket quests O_O

i wouldnt use the socket quest on a kurast shield...what stat does it have? what are you gonna use it for?
Actually, it's got 170Def plus 41% to all resists. Thought I could socket it with PDiamonds to have a really good all-res shield. But, I'm wondering if it's worth it. Thanks for your feedback everyone :)

My Exile shield in SP is made from what once was a plain old white Kurast shield - albeit one that had +42 to all resists when I found it...

I've gotten between 2 (rare) and 4 (more common) sockets on shields of that type. For me, I typically get 3 sockets (but that's me...your luck may be better than mine).

If you're rally desperate for resist, Mosers is really good. Although it isn't as much, you save your quest, and is good enough to bring a low resist char to postive in hell.

Is it a white shield or a magic/rare?
White = You'll get the maximum number of sockets possible for its type - 4 in this case.
Magic = You'll get one or two sockets (completely random odds).
Rare/Unique/Set = One.
More info here (http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/socketeditems.shtml) and here (http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/quests/rewards.shtml).
At any rate, you need to really consider whether or not you want to burn a precious socket quest on something like this. I can't tell you whether it's worth it or not - it depends purely on your own situation. Personally, I usually save those rewards to add sockets to unique and set items. However, if you're not expecting to trade for or find a better shield, there's nothing wrong with what you plan to do.
Decided that I wasn't going to. Dredd, it's a normal item (i.e. white). Will go sell it off. It's taking up space on one of my mules anyway :) Thanks for the feedback y'all.

You can always try the cube recipe for the shield (1 Tal Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Ruby + Normal Shield = Socketed Shield of same type). If you end up with only 2 sockets you got your self a nice rhyme....

I second that. You have 50% chance to get 4 sockets and like Nexexplo just said, 2 sockets could be even better than 4...
