Adopt a new player

Awhile back I believe it was Lucky who suggested an "adopt a friend" program through these forums. There seemed to be alot of interest but it never materialized. After seeing yet another new to hc gib itemz thread I figured maybe to give it a go.

Her is what I am thinking. Firstly a group of 4 or 5 people per realm that want to donate on a semi needed basis. Secondly 4 people who play and trade alot to over see our "new players" you ll see why in a minute. Lastly someone to oversee everything and assign friends.

Group 1 Suppliers:

While Im not looking for people to donate exceptional or elite items I am looking for people who have a lot of low end gear on hand or come across it quite often. Items I would like to see:

Angelic jewelery / Hsarus set / Sigons set / good rare gloves / belt / boots with res - mf / sorc orbs or spec shards. circlets with good mods. This isnt a dumping ground for crap you dont want, just like the needy dont really want your boiled turnips new players dont really want/need stuff that if you were in thier position you wouldnt use.

Group 2 Supervisors:

1 or 2 people per realm who do alot of trading. items donated through this program are not to be used as trading fodder. Your job is to watch for that.

Group 3 overseer:

Someone to sort through requests from players , watch inventory and handle any problems.

New players: You will submit a brief "application" about yourself and why we should help you out as well as what you would need. Any donations can not be used as trading fodder, if you are caught doing so you will be black listed and all traders will be advised not to trade with you. Also if you bot / hack or cheat in any sort of manner you will be black listed. if you are assigned to a "friend" do not beg from him / her. If they agree you may add them to your f list do not make them regrett their generosity.

You might not be getting great stuff but everything that is given is more then enough to get a new player started in thier hc career. As a new player you will also be asked to eventually pay back the system, i.e. donate items for someone else who might make use of them.

Suppliers you can also if you so chose take your "new friend" on a limited number of mf sessions if you so wish, this is entirely up to your discression.

As i tend to do my share of mephisto runs i see all kind of "good to use, already have to much stashed away" stuff.

I would love a "dump mule" for everything i find and never going to use. If someone else could as you said, organize "the hand outs" it would be great, instead of me supply Jamella with Sigon parts....:teeth:

Seriously... people trade decent stuff for them.

Of course, maybe I'm wrong, and the whole system can be set up to run flawlessly. I've been wrong before... but that doesn't mean you shouldn't trade me your pgems! :lol:

The stuff im looking for rarely anyone keeps much less takes the time to try and trade them. Really when was the last time you saw someone trading sigons set? Pgem trades are generally in the mid tier of items atleast in my experiance

really though, not many people that have a way to get pgems really need sigons parts or whatever, because if you can get pgems, you can easily run nm mephisto or something and he drops a ton of stuff like that..

I think this is a good idea, but the system you proposed might be way more complicated than it needs to be.


Back in the GAT days when you would revert straight back to the chat channel you were previously in instead of going to some stupid lobby, I would check in while doing Meph runs and see if anyone wanted the crap/ok stuff I picked up but didn't really need. I think we could use this concept within this forum.

... maybe have a designated channel on each realm open to the forum members where poorer people could sit and chat and co-op together while other richer MFers checked in every so often, announced a game, and dumped off items they found but didn't need to whatever players wanted them. It'd also be easy enough to talk to the people for a bit, get an idea of their general character, pick out any douche bags, and just whisper the guy that needs a particular item or is just a nicer person.


The MFers wouldn't have to waste time categorizing/muling all the items, and moderators/supervisors/overseers wouldn't be necessary either. I would personally love it if there were a place like this. I hate selling so much usefull stuff to Jamella, and it makes you feel good to donate to a needy player. I guess the only rule would be: just because someone gives you a few decent items doesn't mean you can put them on your f-list and /f msg in caps constantly, etc.
