My skelliemancer that I want to run pits with.

1k life / 441 mana.
Merc 1346 life, 873 max without might (so 1.6k something with, and 3.2k something with amp...). 63/75/63/63 resis for merc and 36/36/61/61 for me.

Level 30 RS and SM, 8 or so revive, 7 amp (with +skills) and so on. 0 block, max vita. Also 350 HP bone armor.

0% MF or so, or I could sacrifice 24 all resis (vipermagi) for wealth armor (100MF).

Here is exact gear:

Wormskull with 9 all resis jewel
Ammy with 14/39/14/14 resis ammy with +1 summoning skills.
Dwarf Start
10 all resist ring with 10 fcr and +1 str
40 to life belt with +3 str
Homunculus with pdiamond
Arm of King Leoric tomb wand
silkweaves
frosties
24 all resist vipermagi

Questions:

What kind of belt can you recommend? Goldwrap?
Where do you possibly see resis?
Should I sacrifice the wealth for the vipermagi?... I don't think so.
Will hell pits be survivable?

I will try to get to hell a5 tomorrow (in a1 right now) and get the anya quest... that's 10 all resist right there, and with a better vipermagi and a good belt I should have maxed everything. But then, I won't have any MF, unless I PTopaz the vipermagi.

Help, anyone, on optimizing the necro? I don't want to sacrifice killing speed in the pits, nor survivability, but I do want to have at least 100 MF, and I need to keep the frosties, arm and homunc on (50 all resist right there).

EDIT: Also, what are the chances of actually finding something in, say, 100 runs?

Hell cows is probably safer and faster for a necro. also same or better drops. use ce and don't kill the king unless you have a maker.

edit: go with wealth, and upgrade goldwrap (shael tal pdia) also tarn helm can be gotten for pgems. use charms for resist. nightmare cows good for charms and flawless gems. milk them cows.

Actually cows have very bad drops, Pit owns all :)

You dont have to worry about surviving Pit hell with your necro. Just beware of bosses (Lightning enchanted or Cold enchatd, while fire enchanted in NM, hell is not that bad). SO dont get close when you see one of such jerks close. ANother thing: PI bosses - they seems to be real problem for skelliemancer even with high lvl might merc. You have to kill them 2 minuts each, or... skip them and go further.

To get res:

1.) use nice gloves with resistances - why you use frosties? I had summoner with very low mana and he managed very well with almost base mana (for CE you can drink potions, and in Pit you won't use it tha often, not too many crowds there except lvl 2)

2.) small charms - they can get up to 11 % of single element resistance. Get some 8-10 % fire/light/cold small charms and you are fine for Pit.

3.) Find better helm, asap - wormskull just sucks!!! You play LOD, you can wear good tiaras, diadems, coronettes with massive res, frw and +2 skill etc, you can even wear old good Undead crown for summoner and not to mention Shako, Gaze, and many more.

4.) You can get really nice belt with resistances from rares. They tend to have much %fhr, some life, strenght and very often dual or even triple res (lets say: rare +17 str, 24 % fhr, some life and 23/17/20 res belt)

Well, first of all, yes, you'll survive the pit quite nicely with that build. A skelliemancer in nearly invincible in there. Second of all, MF should come AFTER you have a good, survivable character. Don't give up the viper just yet, do a dozen runs or so and see how it goes.

Resists are not terribly important on a Summoner devoted to the pit, as long as you are careful, but the numbers you're at (with the viper) are as low as I'd want to be. You're looking at some mean negatives under conviction. If you've got a socket Q, put a Perfect Topaz in your Viper.

The immediate fixers, I would say are your belt and boots. You should be able to shop a better belt in act 5 nightmare (Larzuk), probably a 15-30% single res, 75+ life plated belt, with little trouble. The boots can be replaced with a rare MF/RES pair of boots (shoppable) or a dual res/MF pair of rares.

And of course, I'll also take this moment to tell you to ditch the Arm of King "Oops I Boneprisoned Myself" for a Carin Shard. Nobody agrees with me, but I'll argue it to the death... Carin Shard is 100x better!

Well, I agree totally :)

Put some crushing blow on your merc and bosses will be easier. Guillaume's Face is probably the most under rated helm for act2 mercenaries.

If you switch your arm for wizzy you don’t have to worry about res or mana, and can use all other places for skills or mf. Use your skeletons as meat shield and use CE as your main killer.

Btw, collect a reasonable amount of perfect gems and head over to the trade forum. It’s not hard to get what you need there.

Cheers,

Ill address your edit Oxy; The pit does not drop often, you miught do 100 runs and get crap. The apeal of this area is that has the ability to drop almost everything, it is also easy to get to and not overly dangerous, unless you hit a pack of fanat archers. I used to run the pit a bit with my necro and i usually packed about 200 mf. i found in my time there : crown of ages , levi / nats claw and griz shield to list a few i can recall.

I like the Arm. Just keep a tele staff on switch. Most of the tim you can walk out of the boneprison occassionally ou have to switch and tele. You almost never get boneprisoned running pit anyway...now running hell meph is different. Goos advice on where to improve. Gamble some circlets to get a better res all circ. Gamble some belts and boots for res.

The only places you can run into problems in the Pit with a summoner is at the entrance to both levels, and even then only occasionally. Sometimes a boss pack will camp the entrance to level 1 (RIP to my hammerdin last season, might enchanted was all I saw before deeds).

Heres the trick: don't outrun your army. Let them walk ahead of you. This makes you slow as crap, but makes you near invincible. It will be even more so once my pally is rolling with you tonight.

As far as resists, summoners are the least resistance dependent class in the game (IMO). But if they worry you that much, let me know; I have tons of 30 res grands 8-10 smalls.

So quit pussy footing around and go for it!! Jeez man, you only live once!! You can steal 2nd base without taking your foot off of 1st!! (Insert some other clever analogy)

but okay! :D

I'll take you up on that offer, tooie. I might even have stuff to trade with.

I found CKs boots.

And yes, I have been trying my best to find PGems.

Pit > cows? The reason I like cows is all the charms, jewels and flawless gems they drop. And for me its safer and faster than the pits. I run the pits with a hammerdin and I have yet to find anything impressive. Now the cows have dropped me some really good charms and jewels.
