Hi everyone,
Well I've been looking all around the forum and I've only found some few mentions about barbarians using trang set items, barbarians using flamebellow, hexfire used with trang items by necros....I haven't found any guides about trang barbs or fire barbs or mage barbs( tell me if there is please so I can compare my guide with them, thanks) so I decided to make one while I'm building one of my own...if anyone can test this please inform me how it goes....I'm still looking for trang helmet and trang belt...Please give your comments and suggestions and if someone could help me please I'm not good with arranging stuff for guides...thanks

Fuathas : Barbarians of Fire

Prologue

With the rise of Baal a secret sect of Barbarians came forward to fight for the light. Unlike their Druid brothers, who were driven away long ago when their use of mystic powers were discovered, these barbarians managed to remain undiscovered and continued to to live with their barbarian brothers. They learned to use the essence of hellfire and combine it with their own barbarian skills. The ability to focus their minds and transfer their bodies for short distances was also discovered by the founders of this sect.

Members of this sect were usually experienced hunters, proven fighters, and barbarians of high standing who having reached the peak of their society started searching for a higher purpose in life. It is during this period of self-searching that they are introduced to and approached by members of the "Fuathas" -- Barbarians of Fire...

The "Fuathas brothers", brothers of hate , were the founders of this sect. It is said that at a young age the brothers lost their parents and members of their tribe when an army of undead and demons ravaged their village. They would have lost their lives as well if not for the help of two great heroes: Naj, the sorceress, and Trang-Oul, the necromancer! Why they were there was never revealed. They struck down the demons with fireballs and meteors, burned the undead with walls of fire, and transferred the survivors of the tribe to the top of a nearby mountain in a matter of moments away from the sight and the stench of death.

The names of the Fuathas brothers have long been forgotten but they were known to be three. The sorceress, Naj, told them there would come a time when evil would grow to reach the peaks of mount arreat and that mere strength and determination would not be enough to win against such an onslaught. They must learn to use the fires of hell in order to defeat them. Trang-oul then admitted that he was learning this skill from Naj and had just mastered it a day before the attack on their village but because hellfire is too strong to keep within one's self when fire magic is not in one's blood, Naj had to enchant for him an armor made of hellstone to harness this power.

It was then written in the records of the sect that Trang-oul fashioned 3 more armors of hellstone for the brothers, teaching them the art of hellforge. Naj then taught them the art of enchantment to seal the powers of hellfire in the armors. A few days later, the two heroes went along their way but left behind one more gift--the art of enchanting eldar staves to be able to focus their minds in order travel short distances without physical effort. From then on an eldar staff has been the mark which identified members of their sect. It is rumored that skill of fashioning hellstone enchanted swords, hexfire and flamebellow, were passed on by the brothers to the members of the sect.

The "Fuathas brothers" who were known as the brothers who hate--they hated demons and undead thereafter--became the name of their sect... Upon Baal's arrival, the "Fuathas", barbarians of fire, finally revealed themselves to their brother barbarians to fight the evil that had come to engulf the peaks of mount arreat...

I-Description

The Fuathas barbarian or Barbarians of Fire are actually your average barbarian builds ( WW barbs, Conc barbs, Berserkers, Singers, etc...) who having reached the top of their form have come to search for other ways of playing their characters. This built or actually variant of all the barb builts takes advantage of the fireball, firewall and meteor skills of the Trang-oul set, the plus fire skills of hexfire shamsir and flamebellow balrogblade(also the plus inferno skills), and the teleport charges of the Naj set staff to make a mage barb. The playability of this built lies in the fact that the natural skills of a developed barbarian can support the use of these items as compared to necromancers , druids , amazons and assassins...although IMO these items can also be applied to these other characters if planned correctly...but for now we are making fire barbs.

This built is centered on 3 premises:
1. you love barbarians
2. you have an existing high level barbarian( the set pieces are for high level characters)
3. you want to play a different kind of barbarian yet still keep your existing one

Note: this built only needs your existing developed favorite barb, the trang set pieces, naj's staff, and 1 or 2 hexfires or 1 or 2 flamebellows

II-Skills

Your barbarian's skills will do... although it would be better if you had 6-8 points in natural resistance without plus skills added because you will be using a partial and not complete trang set because barbs of course cannot use the trang set shield.

If you plan to make a barb specifically for this built then i suggest you study the guides on this forum and decide what kind you want...whats important is maxed BO, maxed combat skill or skills of your choice, maxed mastery of your choice if you pick one combat skill to max, maxed shout, howl or warcry, the one point barbarian skill wonders, prerequisites and (again ) 6-8 points in natural resistance

Something like this but you can always follow the guides in the forum:

20 BO
20 shout/howl/warcry
20 conc/berserk/ww
20 mastery/ or another combat skill
6-8 nat resistance
prereqs, one point wonders

III-Stats

For strength, not less than 110 for upgraded hexfire, not less than 185 for flamebellow
For dexterity, not less than 122 for upgraded hexfire, as much as needed to reach your ideal chance to block
For vitality, all extra stat points
For energy, well, depends on your style of playing, but if you always run out casting spells then either add points, get mana charms, get mana potions, or leech it back the old-fashioned way

V-Mercenary

Mercs are needed as tanks so act 2 mercs are good but you can also use act 5 mercs so you can donate your old barb wear to them...hehehe

VI-How to play this barb?

Well this is a barb built for those seeking other ways of playing a barbarian so the fire mage skills should be your primary skills...but you could always use both at same time like casting firewall or meteor on yourself so monsters can burn while you pummel them...

With regards to the naj staff requirement for Fuathas players...this is your source of teleportation...this built is made for regular players who dont have runeword items...if you do have enigma you can still be technically a fuathas if you keep a staff on switch like the Mang Song's lesson, ondal's wisdom and skull collector...

With regards to PVP, I have not tested this for I don't do PVP...hehehe...tell us if it's viable so we can include it in this guide.

With regards to Fire Immunes and bosses, you can resort to your barbarian combat skills without changing your gear of course...you are a fuathas so you wear your fuathas gear while using your barbarian skills

Well, that's all for now...writing a guide was very taxing...hoping to hear your comments and suggestions...volunteers to rewrite the edits are welcome...and have fun playing as a Fuathas...burn! burn! burn!

This seems like a nice way to have fun with your existing build. No need to start all over. When I get all the pieces I’ll try it.

Also bear in mind that you can use a moonfall (slvl11 Meteor charges) with a Flamebellow/hexfire if you want to synergize your trang Fireball, as well as a slvl6 Firebolt ring to add even more damage. The other day I just gambled a slvl5 Firebolt/86 Mana ring for my Trang Oul Conviction Pally

Erilon

Ryu_Khan your right...I've been looking around and i see that moonfall's meteor charges can be used for synergy for fuathas...this is IMO better for barbs who only want to use 3 instead of 4 items of the trangset if they want to just use fireball and firewall...but if using 4 trang items, dont need the moonfall weapon as you have the 10 meteor synergy from the 4th item...
Havent been able to test yet though whether the plus 12 - 18 inferno of 2 flamebellows stack up or whether it becomes 12-18 plus 3 only...oh and of course the plus 3 an plus 3 to fire skills must be taken into account...
If I had a charged firebolt ring with mana plus and faster cast rate I would use it too...hehehe...but i think mana plus and regeneration and plus to all skills are better than just adding to the synergy...I may be wrong...somebody please test this...thanks

The max slvl charge for Firebolt is 6. So that would add 84% extra damage to your fireball - much better than what a SoJ would give (but of course a SoJ would be great for the 2nd ring slot). It would also give 30% extra damage to your meteor.

And if you decide to skip on Firewall you only have to use the Gloves and Belt from Trangs, thus giving you potentially +4 skills from Shako/Arkaine's (or +5 Fireball with Shako/Fireball Ormus). I like the idea of a barb running around dual wielding a Flamebellow and Moonfall, launching Meteors (60 charges on Moon) and Fireballs. Would have definite problems in late NM/hell but would still be a fun build.

When I get a chance I'll swap a SoJ onto my Trang Pally and report the fireball damage differences between that and my slvl5 Firebolt ring. Can't wait to get my mf sorc up to clvl93 so I can try and gamble some slvl6 Firebolters . . .

Ryu_Khan
06-11-2004, 20:58
Alright, I tested out +skills vs +charge synergies on my Pally. While it's not a barb, the info should be applicable for Fuathas (though obviously my Pally has to make changes since he can't dual wield). Note that my Pally only focuses on Fireball as well.

Gear Setup, emphasis on +skills:
Shako (+2)
Skins (+1) - Arkaine's or Fireball Ormus would be a bit better, but the resists and fast cast are nice
Lidless (+1) - Though Dragonscale is a tempting choice; see below for discussion
x2 SoJ (+2)
Seraph (+2)
Anni (+1)
Tearhaunches
Trang's Gloves and Belt for the +18 Fireball, 15% Mana Regen, 20% Fast Cast, CBF, +life and mana, etc . .

So this gives us slvl27 Fireball total which does a paltry 310-344 damage with no synergies. However, when I swap out x1 SoJ for a ring with slvl5 Firebolt charges, the damage jumps up to 498-555 despite Fireball dropping down to slvl26. Add in a Moonfall for the weapon and the damage jumps up to 950-1057 per fireball. So you can see that synergies definitely bring a lot to the table.

I should mention the unique Paladian shield Dragonscale:
Defense: 523-582 (varies)(Base Defense: 169-193)
Required Level: 80
Required Strength: 142
Durability: 65
Chance To Block: 52%
Smite Damage: 46 To 46
(Paladin Only)
+170-200% Enhanced Defense (varies)
Adds 211-371 Fire Damage
+15% To Fire Skill Damage
+10 To Hydra
+5% To Maximum Fire Resist
+15-25 To Strength (varies)
Fire Absorb 10-20% (varies)

If I swap out the Lidless for Dragonscale, my fireball damage would increase to 1032-1151. Unfortunately Hydra is pretty underpowered without Fire Mastery. At slvl18 (+10 oskill from item and +8 from my gear) and including the slvl5 Firebolt synergy, Hydra does 129-154 damage per bolt. Since I don't have a Dragonscale I can't test to see if the +18 Fireball oskill would count as a synergy or not - but if it did the Hydra damage would be 190-227. And losing the +Mana and fast cast from Lidless would hurt as well. Tough call here for my Pally, but I'll continue to search for a Dragonscale so I can test out the Hydras more.

The previous paragraph doesn't really apply to a Barb, but I thought you would be interested to see the effect of 15% extra Fire Damage on the Fireball in case you wanted to fire facet your gear (note that none of my gear is faceted). And of course a Barb can't use conviction (which basically triples my Fireball damage) but with some inventive use of other skills (use Grim Ward to set up a 'safety net' from which to pepper your foes with Fire, etc . .) I think you would have a fun and interesting variant build.

The wonderful thing about being a barb is dont need the safety net...can tank it out...having nat resist also helps a lot
Also im not making a fireball barb...I'm making a fire mage barb so he should have at least 3 fire spells...fireball, firewall, meteor, hydra or inferno...and he should be able to teleport...so for this built it really requires at least 3 trang set items and one fire spell granting weapon and najs staff to be considered a fuathas... :spy:
But thanks for the info and after finishing barb guide i wouldnt mind making a guide for paladins with your help...thanks again

Fuathas Hierarchy

I. Mage
II. Ring Mage
III. Arch-Mage
IV. Warlock

Fuathas = Barbarian who wears 3-4 Trang set items, has 3 or more castable fire spells, and uses Naj’s Puzzler elder staff for teleportation(or uses an exceptional/elite unique staff that adds to all skills if teleportation is obtained from an Enigma rune word armor)

I. Mage – class containing the newly invited members known as “the Awakened”. They are able to unleash fire spells with the use of their enchanted hellstone armor and weapons. They teleport with the use of their elder staves.

Naj’s puzzler elder staff is their source of teleportation.

Three Trang items = Fireball and Firewall spells
The third fire spell is found in either of the following weapons:
1. Hexfire shamsir – hydra
2. Flamebellow balrog blade – inferno
3. Moonfall jagged star – meteor
4. Demonlimb tyrant club – enchant

A. Trang gloves + armor + belt = fireball + firewall

Trang helmet is replaced with either of the following:
1. Andariel’s visage demonhead
2. Harlequin crest shako
3. Delirium rune word( lem-ist-io ) helmet

B. Trang gloves + armor + helmet = fireball + firewall

Trang belt is replaced with either of the following:
1. Arachnid mesh spiderweb sash
2. Gloom’s trap mesh belt
3. Lenymo sash (upgraded)

C. Trang armor + helmet + belt = fireball + firewall

Trang gloves replaced by either of the following:
1. Magefist light gauntlets (upgraded)
2. Frostburn gauntlets (upgraded)

D. Trang helmet + belt + gloves = fireball + firewall

Trang armor replaced with either or the following:
1. Skin of the Vipermagi serpentskin armor
2. Que-Hegan’s Wisdom mage plate
3. Ormus’s Robes dusk shroud
4. Arkaine’s Valor balrog skin

II. Ring Mage - Here belong the Fuathas who have learned to enchant fire spells in hellstone rings giving them the ability to choose whether or not to use hellstone weapons. But most Ring Mages, also known as “the Enflamed”, still carry with them their former hellstone weapons.

Naj’s puzzler elder staff is their source of teleportation.
Three Trang items = Fireball and Firewall spells
The third fire spell is found in their charged ring of firebolt
They may have a fourth fire spell if using either of the following weapons:
1. Hexfire shamsir – hydra
2. Flamebellow balrog blade – inferno
3. Moonfall jagged star – meteor
4. Demonlimb tyrant club – enchant

III. Arch-Mage – There comes a time when a Fuathas is finally able to use the full strength of hellfire. He then forges a new armor of hellstone enchanted with all the fire spells he has ever learned. He can now choose to forego the use of hellstone weapons or rings. But a wise Arch-Mage , known also as “the Afire”, does not forget how faithfully his hellstone weapons or ring guarded him before and will always carry them with him.

Naj’s puzzler elder staff is their source of teleportation.

Four Trang items = Fireball, Firewall and Meteor spells
A fourth and/or fifth fire spell can also be found in either of the following items:
1. Hexfire shamsir – hydra
2. Flamebellow balrog blade – inferno
3. Demonlimb tyrant club – enchant
4. Charged ring of firebolt

IV. Warlock – The Warlock or “the Consumed” is the highest class a Fuathas can hope to achieve. They are Arch-Mages who have learned to enscribe runes in their hellstone amors giving them the power to enchant the power of teleportation also within their armors. They have replaced their teleportation staves with staves that enhance their fire spell skills to do double the damage or even more...

Enigma rune word( Jah-Ith-Ber ) armor is their source of teleportation.

Trang helmet + gloves + boots = fireball + firewall spells
The third fire spell is found in either of the following items:
1. Hexfire shamsir – hydra
2. Flamebellow balrog blade – inferno
3. Moonfall jagged star – meteor
4. Demonlimb tyrant club – enchant
5. Charged ring of firebolt

Instead of Naj’s Puzzler elder staff they use either of the following:
1. Mang Song’s Lesson archon staff – plus 5 to all skills
2. Ondal’s Wisdom elder staff – plus 2-4 to all skills
3. Skull Collector rune staff – plus 2 to all skills
4. Razorswitch jo staff – plus 1 to all skills

If you think you can tank it out with no leech and with no 'safety net' (war cry, grim ward, etc . . ), more power to you and good luck!

As for a Paladin guide, it's already been done - search the Amazon Basin Forums for a good guide and discussion (I think if you search the paladin archives for topics with the word 'fireball' in it you should turn it up). I also think someone on the forums here wrote a guide on a Fireball Pally; at the very least there were a few discussions here about it that could be found with a little bit of searching.

oh sorry about that...when you said safety net i thought you just meant grim ward...I never used it before...and for this built it doesnt mean barb cant use his warcries...this built isnt building a barb from scratch to just become fire mage...its any well developed barb in his 75's and higher who wants to use firespells in order to play his barb in a new and different way and still be able to use his barb skills as back up of course...so even with 3 or 4 trang items barb will still be able to survive...and mercs are still available so Fuathas are very viable...
I'll try to look for the fireball paladin ...thanks

Thanks for the link Black-Nite. That guide is very useful for reference...thanks again. It is a barb guide built from scratch just to take advantage of the fireball skill granted by 2 specific trang set items-- the gloves and the belt. The guide we are making here is more intensive and does not build from scratch...We use our favorite 70's to 90's barb that we have and turn him into a fire mage with at least 3 castable fire spells and having the ability to teleport with or without the use of the enigma rune word armor... In Asia realm where I play there are very few people who can afford to make enigma. We make do with sets and uniques but I included enigma anyway in the Fuathas built for those who just cant live without or resist using this armor...
Would appreciate more related links....thanks again

Memoirs of Bloodthirst

Demon blood...the stench of it on my hands again! Why? Why is it always the same? We fight these demons and I am left victorious with all of my foes slain but my fellow companions all slaughtered with them--being a berserker is not as good as it turned out to be... I still remember the power it gave old Ogreblood in his youth and how no monster could stand up to him in his rage... but he had gone away and when he returned instead of his sword he carried with him an elderstaff and went to fight no more...

Was this what he had gone through? Had he felt what I am now feeling? As a berserker, pain and wounds have no hold on me and my foes die with the force of my fury but there lies my weakness... I fight blind to the fate and the death of my fellow companions being unable to help them due to the rage I must unleash... Then after the battle all I have left is blood on my hands--Demon blood!

The Demons have become braver --no longer waiting in the forest but instead charging through our fields and village streets... It is the time of evil... I know it was foretold but how will it end? Lately there have been rumors of Demons with skin tougher than our iron who laugh as they crush the life out of men... They won't be a problem. No skin be it tougher than iron can stand against the power of berserkers! But what if they attack our village? How can I save not just me but the rest of my brothers and sisters? I don't want to be the only one left alive again...

Old Ogreblood has been busy lately forging weapons that glow blood red in the fire but are dull gray and cold to the touch afterwards... Hellstone... That was what he told me. His armor and weapons were of hellstone. I have not seen him fight for years but if he is still as great a berserker as he was before then I guess this time I won't be left alive alone...

Fools! Why did they believe that Demons do not think or plan? Is it the mark of a sane man to run after Demons into the forest? They had attacked the village and for a moment it did seem as if we were beating them ... They had ran away howling in pain or did they... It was not just I who saw that there was no Demon blood on the streets. Ogreblood did speak of a mighty demon from hell, Baal, who commands these Demons. It was Ogreblood who had spoken against the pursuit of the Demons saying that to follow the enemy was to follow the path to Hell and from that place few if ever return... I don't feel like a fool for deciding to be left behind with Ogreblood to guard the village-- strangely, I don't...

When the men did not return, Ogreblood instructed the women, children and the old too wait on the top of a nearby hill overlooking the village. He had on his Hellstone armor and weapons yet still carried an elder staff. He then said to me words that I will never forget-- "Fire within can save not just one's self but also the people who help to feed it." How can this be? When a berserker feels the fire within it burns his enemies and sometimes even his friends who gets in his way-- It's more of a save one's self kind of skill I have learned. But here was Ogreblood, a fellow berserker, telling me that I and that he could save everyone.

What happened then was forever branded into my memory and even my soul. As the Demons came from all around us, Ogreblood burned with the rage of a berserker but so did his armor and his weapons! He was glowing with fire...each approaching foe was consumed by balls of fire that seemed to come from within him and when the demons turned instead to charge at our remaining tribe members left defenseless on top of the hill, walls of fire arose around them and among the demon horde! He was suddenly on top of the hill and in a flash of light he was beside me again with two children in his arms... He kept going back and forth till everyone was safe back in the vilage...but the best part was that the fires were burning away the stench of Demon blood.

Fuathas! Barbarians of Fire... He had become one of the members of this sect. There he had learned how to use his skills and control the fires within to save not only himself but others as well. "The time has come to ignite our hearts for we must stop the flames of Baal from reaching mount arreat." He said to me. From that day on I no longer had the stench of Demon blood on my hands for they burn even before they touch me and if they are able to survive my hellfire they fall to the power of my hellstone weapons and to the rage of the berserker still aflame within me...

Erilon, I just remembered that MongoJerry did something very similar to this awhile back - a barbarian that used 4 pieces of the Trang's set and used Fireball and Meteor to beat the game. He wrote three columns for it, the first one can be found here:

http://diabloii.net/columnists/a-gunter1.shtml

Good reading! And it should give you some great ideas for your own build as well.

BTW, I don't think the oskill from Trang's Fireball synergizes the oskill from Trang's Meteor.

Hey Ryu_Khan nice research...most useful...I was disappointed though when he wasn't able to try the 4 items combo of trangs for the meteor skill...but it does show that firewall can be used by barbarians...now we need a link with a barb using the meteor skill...

Oh about the meteor synergy, I keep reading in the necro forums that they do synergize...I'll look again to check...thanks a million! I wish I could make as nice a story as that...hehehe ...anyway back to work...

I loaded my pally up with 3 trangs items and removed the Moonfall. Damage was 386-436 per fireball. I put on the Trang's Armor, giving me 4 pieces and +10 Meteor oskill, but fireball damage stayed the same at 386-436. Re-equipping Moonfall with 4 trangs had no effect on Fireball damage, since I now had the oskill lvl14 Meteor from Trangs negating the slvl11 Meteor charge bug. With Moonfall equipped, I removed the Trangs armour, and my fireball damage shot up to 737-831.

So I guess if you do go with 4 trangs items in order to use 3 different fire skills, you might as well leave Moonfall out and equip an extra Flamebellow. But remember to use one Firebolt charge ring - my slvl5 Firebolt ring increased my lvl14 Meteor from 475-521 to 593-651 and the fireball from 227-256 to 386-436. I have an extra one on USEast L if you want, though I think you said you played on Asia 1.I wish I could make as nice a story as thatYou're well on your way so far, keep up the good work!

Oh thank you for the testing... just asked somewhere else and they clarified that trang fireskills do not synergize each other as you said... oh and I've asked about the synergy from the charged items and they say it's a bug...hmmm... In the final version, I won't mention synergy from charged items I guess and just let it surprise those who get it... hehehe

I play on Asia...Ill try to look for one...maybe I'll get lucky... I found a tele amulet the other day and also the arachnid belt... now looking for extra flamebellow and trang belt and helmet, and silkweave boots... so I can test things myself... thanks again Ryu

You missed the leaf runeword in your weapons or runeword listing. Remember its cheap, it can be equiped at clvl 19 (IIRC the lowest) and it has +3 fire skills +2 mana per kill as well as there affixes.

I like the idea of an oskill using fire barb, have you ever thought to put the oskill arctic blast from which unique was it surefrost??

Firebolt charges on a ring are a must IIRC you can get upto slvl 10 charges of firebolt on a ring. warcries work well with the build, though putting any points in energy is a waste at 1 mana per energy no points should be placed in energy unlike the fireball barb build suggest. spend points in enough dex str for equipment and the rest in vit.

your story is coming along great.

You should absolutely mention this, while i firmly beleive it's a bug (defined as an unintended consequence) it's just such an interesting and still minor bug that I don't think Blizzard will change it.

Don't forget also that you can put HOTO in a staff. Also, you can fight with a staff if you really wanted to, naj's staff has okay damage, there's ribcracker, and nice runewords like BoTD, HoJ, Silence i think will work (can u get 6 sockets?)...a few others..
