alright. we all know about the 'doom' runeword. so i had this idea for making an uber-damaging zealot.

skill distribution:

-20 zeal
-20 holy shield
-20 fanat
-20 resist cold -- hidden passive synergy bonus to frost aura from doom
-rest in defiance OR sacrifice

using fanaticism as a main aura, and yet benefiting from the cold aura and even some nice damage -- maybe 2k or so? -- from frost/resist cold, the possible damage and just general playability bonuses are amazing. and dont forget, 'doom' gives a very nice -40% to enemy cold resist.

so WHY have i never seen any of these?

i think im gonna make a guide on this when i have time.

Level 12 HF with lvl 20 Sacrifice and Res Cold adds only 458-485 damage to your attack. Yes, the damage will be bigger because of the -cold res on the Doom, but not by a lot.

If you truly want more cold damage, and don't care that much about physical, I think a better build would be to use a plain frostzealot with a Beast's fanat aura. You can even modify that, to a Wizendraw-using ranger, or a werebear build.

Another reason is that I don't think many people know about this "hidden passive bonus" that the synergies give to the Doom's HF. I, for one, did not.

This would only add 340-360 cold damage to your attack with only one synergy like he wants. With the dooms - res {lets say it has -50}, that would only be 510-540 cold damage, ~if~ the monster has no cold resistance at all.

In my humble opinion, this wont work out to be very much damage at all. You would be better off with stacking cold damage from gear {raven frost, duress, vamp. gaze, charms}.

The only way you might get this to work would be if you maxed conviction instead of fanat. That would provide another -150% enemy res {at lvl 25}, kicking the cold damage up to 1020 - 1080 {including the -50 average res from 'doom'}.

The damage is only ok, and you would have to keep this stricly pvm from your lack of attackrating {-deff from conviction wont help in melee vrs melee that much now adays, too many other +% deff modifiers out on realms}.

Personaly, again, imo, cold damage from gear > doom + maxed holy freeze synergies, even with conviction.

right -- i probably should have calculated that cold damage before anything.

as for that hidden passive bonus, i read it a few other places and just assumed it to be true. if anyone else has ever tried this out, please LMK.

and yeah diabolico -- i guess frostadin with beast would be better. but would a frost zealot using doom work? i always thought the weapon aura overrides the active or something. does anyone know for sure?

The aura works as it would with multiple same auras in a team; the highest level one that is in range would be the one that is working.

Doom would only be good on a pure frostadin for its -res. I will aggree with diab that a beast, mainly in a caddy for its speed, would be your best bet for splitting cold & physical damage.

And obviously, try to roll a Caddy with +hf, even zeal if possible, for maximum efficiency.

You can roll a grey or white item? :surprise:

You can roll a grey or white item? :surprise:

Crude weap + Eld + chipped gem => Normal weap

And automods are rerolled. (This includes +skills, long as I know.)

But unfortunately, EVEN IF one happens to roll a good Caddy (say, with +3 hf and +3 zeal), cubing it for 5 sockets is not guaranteed. Only Larzuk can add maximum sockets.

Have fun.

But then you'd have to find more crude weapons, which people seem to throw away most of the time.
