View Full Version : NFL picks: Week 8

Week 7 is probably going to go in the books as the craziest week of the 2004 season. We had Miami beating the so-called "Greatest Show on Turf", the Cards taking down the reeling Seachickens, Culpepper throwing for under 200 yards and 1 TD without Moss and the Vikes still beating the Titans by 17, and the Chiefs hanging 8 rushing TDs on the #1 rushing defense (up to that point in the season). The only certainties were the Pats beating yet another team and the Jags pulling off a win in the last minute (all 5 of their wins so far came under 1 minute remaining). But how many of these things were really surprises and which of them were bound to happen? So the question of the week is: what's the most overrated?
Last week was brutal, with a whopping 7 people over .500 and Ash leading the charge at 10-4. Overall, Ash reclaims a share of the lead with piff and SBR. Croup lurks four games back. In the percentage race, toader keeps the pace and stays 1% back. skihard still has a week or two to go before eligibility, but dang if that isn't a good pace so far.
Last week's results:
Rafty 7-7 last week, 59-43 overall
cougar 7-7, 61-41
Ash 10-4, 67-35
Magius 8-6, 57-45
Isolde 6-8, 57-45
SBR 7-7, ,67-35
thundergod 7-7, 60-42
piff 7-7, 67-35
axeil 7-7, 61-41
gismo 7-7, 59-43
Croup 6-8, 63-39
Xoranix 7-7, 60-42
Dutch 6-8, 57-45
Lunar 7-7, 46-27
toader 8-6, 56-30
Mr. Pipes 6-8, 52-34
Mongoose 7-7, 42-43
jimmyboy 9-5, 52-34
LostProphet 7-7, 53-33
nashfinch 9-5, 51-35
Fritos 6-8, 49-37
jdawg 6-8, 38-32
cookies 9-5, 27-15
Shinnok 6-8, 17-10
skihard 8-6, 19-9
Week 8 picks:
Arizona Cardinals at Buffalo Bills
Baltimore Ravens at Philadelphia Eagles
Cincinnati Bengals at Tennessee Titans
Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys
Green Bay Packers at Washington Redskins
Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs
Jacksonville Jaguars at Houston Texans
N.Y. Giants at Minnesota Vikings
Atlanta Falcons at Denver Broncos
Carolina Panthers at Seattle Seahawks
New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers
Oakland Raiders at San Diego Chargers
San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears
Miami Dolphins at N.Y. Jets
Not very many good games this week, but the Colts/Chiefs should be a shootout, the Giants/Vikes and Jags/Texans look decent, and the Ravens/Eagles look good, but the game of the week goes to (surprise!) the Pats, who take on the Steelers. The Panthers/Seahawks looked good at the beginning of the season and who wants to bet that the NFL wishes they could reschedule the Monday night game?
Good luck to everyone!

on a side note I think Durf would get more votes in the polls provided he wasn't teamed up with boobies. It's hard to say boobies are over rated.
Ugh, I called that Chiefs "upset" everywhere but here. Oh well, it's not like that week wouldn't have killed me anyway.

Ask Zep or one of the other ladies here. I'm sure they would say differently. :uhhuh:

Gotta pick the Patriots...No Hampton=no pass defense. Also and expert coach and a top notch defense will confuse the hell out of Roethelisburger. I hate to say it, but the Steelers will lose.
No huge surprises this week, maybe the Bengals over the Titans is a surprise, but I think the Bengals could still be #2 in the AFC North. Texans will also undo the Jags, and I suppose this would be the upset special for this week. There's way too many teams that are supposed to be bad but are good and vice versa. There are really only a couple of horrible teams, and maybe no team that is incredibly better than the rest. Can't wait for playoffs.

Well Ashlee Simpson is the most overrated, but the Atlanta Falcons are the most overrated football team if you ask me.

Geez, were the announcers actually spouting that off during the game? That must have been fun to listen to.
I have a theory as to why the Steelers are up big on the Pats after 1 quarter. The Red Sox won the World Series, and because nature doesn't like an imbalance, the Pats have to lose to keep the status quo of 1 good and 1 bad team. ;)
Wow. Steelers up 21-3 at the end of the first. Is this the end for the Pats?
Lord_Shinnok
31-10-2004, 21:25
I'll change my shoice from the pats to the steelers :cheesy:
Just joking. I was expecting a good game but the pats are getting whooped. The steelers really showed up today on both offence and deffence. If the steelers win then i'll still be happy even though it was against my pick cause i want the pats to loose and stop this winning streak.
and the Bills won so happy days.
I'm happy as long as the Steelers dont get any more points. My fantasy game is riding on the Pats getting an INT or fumble recovery or SOMETHING.
Wow. Even though I am going about 7-7 right now, I don't care because my Steelers won. Hell yeah! That's right, Tom. Good game, but not quite good enough. Bring on the Eagles!
EDIT: SBR, enjoy your time on top. I've suffered a mighty blow, but I'll be back.
