There is no 100% safe way. Now that I've said that, if you play a game for a bit (like about 5 minutes) the game is "burned" in. Meaning you can leave the game and come back to the same game.

Here's a couple of points to consider:

1) Get some friends you trust to hold a game open for you.
2) Test to make sure the game is burned in before you drop stuff. Leave and come back.
3) If you leave and come back too many times Blizzard thinks you're cheating and you get the big time out. Says you cannot connect to b-net. In this case anything you've left on the ground is dust. I refer to point #1, your friend can pick up your stuff until you come back.
4) don't let stuff sit on the ground forever, eventually it will go bye bye.

if ur on single player, use ATMA

for bnet, create a private game.. wait for 5 min. drop items exit and switch chars.. come back in and pick up items. or u can ask ur friend to help u while u switch if u dont trust bnet's servers

Actually there is a 100% safe way, I use it all the time.

The only kicker is you need 2 cd keys.

If you play the game a lot you can easily justify another $30 or $40 for a second copy of the game :-)

Sorry. I run two instances of the game, actually on two seperate computers, but you could probably do it on the same computer. I just log in with the two guys to do the trading, and trade the stuff from one character to the other. If it's exceptionally valuable then I use the trade window (got burned once by having my Internet crap out on me.) Otherwise I just drop, switch, and pick up.

Otherwise make friends with someone you trust, and use a passworded game to mule stuff off. You mule while he stands around/holds the stuff/does pindle runs/whatever.

A while back I was perming a game. I couldn't find anyone on line that I trust well enoungh to help me mule. Opened a game with character having items to be muled and did a normal Baal run to kill time. Picked up what I thought was a rare ring at the time. IDed what I had grabbed and I had picked up a SoJ. In four years of play I have only found four. I did a little happy dance and sat back down and finished muling.

I usually start a game in normal difficulty, run all the bosses (check the clock to make sure 5 minutes have passed) then drop the stuff I want to mule and go online with my other character. Always works fine, although I have lost stuff like Steelclash due to an unexpected 'Realm Down' while I was muling. O_o

even having multiple characters in the game doesnt always work. Prime case: last night a friend was cleaning house, per se, and knows that i collect uniques and sets, so he sets up a game and drops all of the stuff. I spend my time going from mule to mule picking the things up that i needed and sorting the stuff to give to other friends, when *poof* i get a disconnect message while i was in the game. My friend who was holding the game was also disconnected. a few seconds later we tried to get back in the game, but it was gone. Nothing of great importance was lost (fleshrend, rock fleece, maavinas gloves) as we got most of the rest muled, but its an example of a possibility of losing items even if youve got a second character in game.

I transfer my stuff solo all the time and I've only run into a problem once or twice. Since then, one way I make sure not to get "kicked" for jumping in an out of games is to only switch characters in and game only three times. Once I hit the third time, I kill time similar to other folks, usually running the Pit or Pindle, Eldrith, Shrenk, and Tristam.

A bit of advice. If it is truly valuable to the point where you absolutely do not want to loose it, then don't xfer it solo.

Also don't try to hide things in public games and try to xfer. You'll get hosed. I've seen way to many people loose decent stuff to transient players.

Last but not least, drop a line in the forums. I'm sure someone here will legitimately help you. Look me up if your ever on US East NL.

Good hunting to ya!

well... i mule 100% successful wit strangers. i jst go in a 'rush me' or 'free me' game and tell d person dat i will b back to give frees on other chr. drop and swap chrs.. always succeed. Eventually, i would give stuff or rush them for staying.

i do the "under 1 minute" switching. The key is... get on your character for 15 seconds, then make game, drop items, and quit within the next 15 seconds, and join with a new character.

Only time i've EVER gotten a realm down thing, was I choose the wrong character, and quit in under 2 seconds, which was WAY to fast for the realm to like me, thus realm down. If you change characters in under 10 seconds of even being on that character, there is a higher chance of a realm down.

this method doesn't work 100%, but I haven't had a problem yet. When I got realm down, it was a dumb error, but I was done with the muling, and was gonna MF some more when it happened... damn 8 characters, :p

jamz_7, people are eventually going to find your stuff. (Or watch you hide it) and you're screwed. Not a good idea.

When I transfer solo, I always start a 1 player game. That way it won't show up on the list and no one else can join, so you never have to worry about someone snagging your stuff.

they cant watch me hide it, i always go to a waypoint no one is at. like if everyones doing baal runs ill go to act 2 lost city. and i come back in like 30 seconds with my other char to get it

Anyone on USEast can whisper me to hold a game open while they transfer stuff...it's not a problem at all.
