View Full Version : Caps on damage bonus?
Is there a cap on the amount of bonus skill damge and -resistance you can inflict on an enemy from items? For instance, If I use a griffins eye, an eldritch orb, ormus robes, and multiple facets, I could get a -20% enemy resistance and near 60% damage bonus. Would it be capped to a lesser amount?

To my knowledge, no.
I'm guessing even if there is, it would be so OUTRAGEOUS :cheesy: like -1000 enemy resi. For +%dam bonus, I doubt there is a cap, although I think there MUST be a cap SOMEWHERE in the general dam area. I mean what if your dam is like 90000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 0000k I would think it is just impossible for blizz to make a game that would actually calculate the dam, no matter how impossible it is actually able to reach it. (the number above won't even fit the dam screen, even if it is stretched across the end of your screen to the other end)

In PvM and PvP -xx% elemental resistances are capped at -100%. So you cannot lower monsters or players below -100%.
On +xx% damage through Fire or Lightning Mastery and +xx% elemental damage sources there is NO cap.
In PvM monster resistances go up to 95% (Diablo Clone) and after 100% monsters are simply immune. They still have their resistances though so that their immunity can possibly be broken with Conviction in some cases.
In PvM players have the cap of 75% resistances through normal means and can get more ONLY by wearing items that give +xx% to max resistances (like Guardian Angel)
In PvP for players there is no cap. Simply stack resistances like mad and see that you get lots.

true but no only conviction a curse mancer and sometimes just facets and a wand with lower resist charges is enought to break an immunity

So getting over say -175 resistances in cold mastery is worthless in pvp if the other person has exactly 75% resists in hell, because -xx% is capped at -100. But you can get higher than -100% resists with stacked resists over 75%. This is where my friend must've thought that -resists don't work in pvp.
For the last part you said there there is no cap for resists, or max resists?

That's a good question... If that is true, provided that you have atleast
+16 cold skills, all you need is 1 point in CM to get the maximum bonus it will ever give you? If that is true, I got my facts entirely messed up about CM...
Crap my Meteorb and blizz sorc screwed then??

Well I guess not if the person gets stacked resists like a 160 cold resists shield. But if the other person stops at exactly 75% then blizzard would do the same damage at -175 as say -235.
This is all in question, I am not sure.

There is a cap for MAX res of 90%
95% for pallys because of their res auras.
*cough* Tor's BM pal *cough*
What Did You Say About Me?
95% all resists is not BM
i call it superior skill placement

anyways for pvp you should get as much cold mastery as possible, since some people will stack resists against you.
