Ok, I posted this on warcraft3 forums but it's like a ghost town over there and you guys probably know if this can be fixed.
Original post:
Me and a friend recently both decided to buy frozen throne so we could play together. The thing is we can't play custom games together no matter which of us creates the game. The error message says something like the game cannot be found make sure the creator hesn't canceled etc .... Is there any way round this? We have both tried taking down our firewalls temporarily to see if that was the cause but it didn't seem to make a difference. Even when we run firewalls I have it set on "allow exceptions" and have enabled both reign of chaos and frozen throne. Is there anything i'm not doing that would help?
Thanks if you can help
Just play on battle net, it doesn't matter who creates there, i am assuming that you are trying dialing up. If not then it is probably like warcraft 3. You just have to set the right port triggering/fowarding, but i don't know which that is heh.

Have you looked at the WC3 support page on battle.net's site? There should be a page on firewall/router settings there, or at least there is for stacraft.

There is a port used for Warcraft games. Forward this port on your router. If you don't know how, I can tell you you usually type your gateway number into an address bar of a folder or browser. Go to your command prompt and type in that IP command I forget and it should tell you your gateway. You should probably already know it anyway. Once there, look around for something that looks like port forwarding and forward the correct port. If you have a popular router/firewall, you should be able to find an online tutorial. If you have a Vision net or something equally lame like I do, then it is hard to forward ports and it never works and it really sucks and you can't use awesome programs or create Warcraft games. Lame.

Ahhh Thanks heaps Otaku i'm fairly sure that will be the source of the problem as that's the only part of my computer that has been changed since I was last able to make games on WC3. WOOT might actually be able to play it tonight.

Ok, I tried going to the configuration page of my router but couldn't find a port forwarding place. The closest thing I could see was a bit where you could create a virtual server. I checked it out and it said something like "this is where you can open up ports for certain applications". I thought yeah great this is it but I couldn't fill out all the information. This is what I had to input:
Public port: Private Port: Tcp/Udp? Ip address:
So in the game options on WC3 it says the game port is 6112. So do I put 6112 in for both ports? Also, how do I find the right ip address to put in?
Any help would be great, Thanks!

Public port: Private Port: Tcp/Udp? Ip address:
For public and private port put in 6112
For TCP/UDP you need to set the type of port required by the blizz games, I believe it is TCP, but if it doesn't work swap it to UDP and try again
For IP Address, you need to set it to your internal network address of the PC running warcraft. You can get this by opening a dos box and using the ipconfig command, this will give you your IP
You might have to restart your router after adding this setting, depends on the hardware.
