View Full Version : "I dont have any spyware"
So abhsically a single popup was annoying the hell out of me. It was telling me that I might have spyware on my pc. I went ot lavasoft and got ad aware. I ran a scan for like 15 minutes, and then cancelled it cause I wanted to update my firewall. I ran into 187 objects...
seriously, if you havent done so, GET AD AWARE! NOW! I'm currently scanning the rest of my pc.
little to your knowledge, all 187 of those objects came from this website.
....or not.....
This site is the only site I go to that pops up adds on me and I have to run AdAware very frequnetly.
The biggest part taht upsets me about this is my "memebership" it only stops popups while on the forums but doesnt stop the ones you get in the main site or other pages.
Much of the spyware detected is cookies and temporary internet files, but yes ad-aware is very good to run at least once a week to keep your computer running well.
I run ad-aware and spy-bot S&D just to be safe.

hmm....
maybe thats why i havent been getting anything at all! I thought that it was totally spooky that everyone else in these forums were complaining that they were getting popups and 'requests to download' up the yin yang and i'm getting nothing at all...
gogo XP!

update!I am offended by your implication that what SP2 has is a firewall.
It doesn't stop/alert/anything but ignore outgoing traffic, so if you've got a fun little worm/trojan/whatever on your box where a real firewall will likely intercept the traffic, the XP thing will let it happily spread about from your box. It's really not all THAT much better than the SP1 'firewall', except that it comes enabled by default.
Also, are you sure it has a popup stopper? I thought it just disabled messenger for you (assuming you hadn't already disabled it), which isn't really the same thing as being a popup stopper, so much as it is a method of stopping one form of popup that you could do yourself. I could be wrong on this point though.
Anyways, I just got around to updating last night and prior to that I had no issues with this site either.
Not to say that there's not a decent chance that updates could be an issue, just that it probably isn't the SP2 update specifically.

ad-aware then running spy-bot is the best. whatever ad aware leaves on(or adds on) gets taken off with spybot.
+ isn't microsoft done with ie? its so buggy, i really should switch to firefox soon

Ran S&D - found 9 obstructions... 8 fixed - had 2 reboot to fix last one... since it was being "used"

So... people still use IE? Christ.Comments such as this one are not allowed unless you're running OpenBSD or something. Firefox on XP is still using XP.
If you're just using your box for gaming, then who the hell cares what you use as a browser, it's not like you lose any important information in a format if you randomly end up with something you can't get rid of in 5 minutes.
Doubly so if you have a windows partition, a partition for installations, and a partition for storage. Personally, I find IE to run 3 times more smoothly than firefox/netscape, so why in the hell would I let a tracking cookie or two make me stop using it?

Firefox is faster, safer and more compatible with the standard than IE ever was.
Plus you dont have to worry about active-x trojans get installed when you browse some random (....) websites.
(PS did I mention that ctrl-mouse scroll button actually works even the site use fixed font-size?)

I have been visiting this site for a long time mostly from work and I only get 1 popup and that's on the main page. I have no popup or ad blocker at work and have never got a popup besides on the main page.
