View Full Version : "Slowmancer" - Some Questions

Hi
I´m thinking of this sort of necromancer build:
Clay Golem: Slows monsters 63 % (at level 20)
Mercenary: Act 2 Holy Freeze - slows monsters about 53% at highest level
Decrepify: slows monsters 50%
- How is that exactly calculated?
- I guess it would result in a possible over 90% slow?
- Would the cold damage of the mercenary enhance the slow even more?
- Does this work against act bosses, too?
By the way, just so that you know: My primary attacks will be bone spirit and bone spear, enhanced by synergy boni. And I´m level 22 softcore open b.net (non-cheating)

Welcome Newcomer to The Darkness. Grab a brew :drink: and feel free to raise some corpses.
Check this thread (http://www.rpgforums.net/showthread.php?t=199564) for info on slow.

Thanks!
I see much has changed since I left this forum (and quitted diablo2) last year.
Now I started diablo2 again (I couldn't resist introducing this game to my girlfriend) and people instantly try to get me drunk (how much alcohol has that brew got?)
Anyway.. I was not quite able to understand the maths of slowing... my calculation (1-0.53)*(1-0.63)*(1-0.5) must be somewhat wrong :cheesy:

Also, I dont't know yet, if my mercenary's melee cold damage enhances the slowing effect even more... hope so..
Can anyone calculate the slow based on the information I gave?^^

You did things correctly.
%Monsters Original Speed (%MOS) is computed as follows: (1 - %slow/100 for source 1) * (1 - %slow/100 for source 2) * (1 - %slow/100 for source n).
You have three sources, Merc with HF (the fact that he does melee cold damage changes nothing since HF is considered cold), Decrep and Clay.
%MOS = (1 - (53/100)) * (1 - (50/100)) * (1 - (63/100)) = 0.87. That means that the monster will move at 8.7% of it original speed if under the influence of all the slow sources.

Oh, got slow % and speed % mixed up.
Thanks (and good night- time for bed here)
%MOS = (1 - (53/100)) * (1 - (50/100)) * (1 - (63/100)) = 0.87.
Just a clerical note, that all calculates to 0.087 (which then translates to the 8.7% you already mentioned).

You are correct darzog. I guess my numpad skills aren't as hot as my calculator skills.

Happy Slowing.
Recent tests show that stun-locking bosses is as effective as stopping bosses from attacking as high %slow. So having some revives, would be prudent.
At 91.3% slow, you will not be able to stop bosses from attacking. You will however have many seconds between the beginning of attack animation and the actual release of the attacks.
You should think about a weapon switch. Since you will be using all you skill points for the bone spells, stay away from the Dagger as ITD doesn't work against bosses. Try woestave or riphook to increase your %slow.
Keep an eye out for a Kelpie and Blackhorn's Face for your merc.

53% from Holy Freeze
~50% from Clay Golem
75% from Kelpie Snare (mercenary weapon
20% from Blackhorn's face (mercenary helmet)
50% from Woestave (Necromancer weapon switch)
50% from Decepify
would result in a total of 98.825 % slow (=monsters only walk and attack at 1,175% of original speed)
Wonder what that looks like.....
: )
would this be bm in duels?

If you want something truly insane for slow get a 1.08 Kelpie Snare Fuscina
It has 100% Slow Target :)

Wasn't slow capped at 50% per source? So that the kelpie's 75% would result in just 50% or do i have something mixed up?

read the threads posted by mantis.
Cap is 90% slow per source for PVM
Cap is 50% slow total for all sources PVP
So, not really any need to find high %slow items for PVP.
1.08 Kelpie would be capped at 90%, would definitely provide some flexibility in armor choices when trying to achieve maximum %slow.
HF(53)+CG(50)+Woestave(50)+Decrep(50)+(90 Merc) = 99.994125% slow = 0.5875% of original monster speed = 170 times slower. Enough to stop boss attacks, perhaps even diablos lightning hose (longest of all boss attacks). ...need verification.
